Chapter 70 She Convinced Everyone With Her Medical Skills
The next day, Riley got up early. Lydia did not practise yoga anymore when Riley had stopped staying up late to finish her thesis, which made Riley even angrier.
She looked up at the spiral stairs. Lydia was lying in their bed. She had taken away her place, but she was calm about it now.
"Mrs. George..."
Sophia came from the kitchen, and she looked uneasy when she saw Riley. "What's the matter?"
Sophia had a long struggle, "Mrs. George, actually I received a call from the young master the night before yesterday and he wanted to speak to you. I was about to call you to answer the phone call, but Ms. Saunders came and snatched away the phone. She told the young master that you have slept, and she warned me if I dared to tell you, she'll stop me from work..."
Huh?
"Stop crying. This matter ends here. I'll pretend that I don't know about it."
"Really? Thank you, Mrs. George... You have helped me a lot, and I feel bad if I don't tell you about this. Mrs. George, I'll not repeat the same mistake. Please don't ask me to leave."
Riley took the bag and smiled at her, "I won't ask you to leave. But all of you better be prepared to leave. Okay, you can go ahead and finish your work."
She wouldn't ask them to leave but asking them to prepare to leave. What did Mrs. George mean?
Why did Euan call her? Why didn't he call her again?
Riley changed into her white coat in the changing room and went to the ward. She strode, and her high heels made crisp sounds on the tiles.
In Jeanne's office.
"Lydia, you and I should work together. Riley will not only get out of the George family. Her reputation will be ruined too. Wait and see."
"You are the best, Jeanne. Thanks for your help when they are electing the professor, even a bitch like Riley wants to be a professor? Huh, why wouldn't she just go and die?"
"Okay, be careful. Take advantage of these few days when Euan is not at home and teach her some lessons. I think that Euan has some feelings for her too. You have to attract Euan fully and make him dump her soon!" "I will!"
After hanging up the call, Jeanne tapped on Riley's profile with her finger and sneered.
Actually, Riley took a major in surgery in her university, and she had done many successful surgeries during her university life. She was a promising surgeon, but later she transferred to be a doctor who was major in internal medicine. Jeanne did not know or did not care about the reason. But Riley was going to be in trouble soon!
Riley heard the alarm from the emergency room when she returned to the office after rounding the ward. She ran towards the elevator and pressed on the ground floor button before she could even put down the reports. She dashed towards the emergency hall when she was on the ground floor.
The wind blew her white coat up, revealing her vaguely visible slender leg under the skirt.
It was a serial accident again!
"Dr. Watson, the patient..."
Riley strode over, "He is having a compound fracture on his thigh bone, accompanied by the fracture on the pelvic bone. Prepare for the CT scan, blood test and inject him with drips. Check if there is any dural hemorrhage using the CT scan and prepare to join his bones." "The patient has a heart stasis. Prepare for blood pumping. Quick!"
"Riley, what are you doing? The patient was crushed in the heart when his car overturned, and he was obviously having a cardiac rupture. Just send him to the surgeon for surgery!"
Moriah Curry?
Riley glanced at her and continued saying, "Give me the suction pump. Prepare for suction!"
Moriah Curry snatched away the equipment in her hand, "Riley, are you insane? I said you should send him for surgery now!"
"Dr. Curry, the patient's heart was indeed crushed in the accident, but his heart was not ruptured. The pressure was on the inner wall of his chest. The bleeding had covered the heart. We have to suck out the contaminated blood now. Give me the equipment!" Moriah Curry sneered, "Dr. Watson, am I the professor or you? I am asking you to leave the patient and hand it over to the surgeon! The operation must be done for such a situation!"
Fuck! She was using that method to threaten her in such a desperate situation.
"Professor Curry, I'll be responsible for this patient!"
Moriah Curry clenched her teeth, "Riley, you are not respecting me! It is because I was chosen and you failed! Huh!"
Riley was too lazy to reply to her, "Prepare for the suction!"
The medical staff in the emergency department had known Riley well. They had always been greatly confident with her skills, and what she said was never wrong.
The patient's heartbeat finally returned to normal when Riley sucked out the blood stasis in the patient's body.
After taking a deep breath, Riley handed the equipment to the nurse, "The patient is experiencing a slight nervous compression. Send him to the CT room."
Moriah Curry clenched her teeth, "Dr. Watson, what do you mean by this? Are you saying that I, as a professor is nothing in front of an assistant professor like you?" Riley ignored her and said to the nurse, "Next patient."
The nurse ignored Moriah Curry too. Although she kept mentioning she was a professor, but her skills were not qualified, just like the on-site emergency treatment just now. Her personality was also bad.
The deputy director informed them they would be having an emergency meeting, so Riley and the other doctors went to the meeting room together.
Jeanne spoke out first, "There are two patients sent in today which have a quite similar special case. But one of them is a key member of the military troops and the other..."
William looked at the expressionless Riley and said to Jeanne, "Ms. Pouchain, the main problem now is not the patients' identity, but whether our medical team can perform two operations at the same time."
That was an operation with high difficulty...
Riley said nothing. She guessed that it might be because they had not enough staff members.
Jeanne smiled and said, "Actually, the internal medicine doctors have surgery experiences and could assist the surgeons in surgery, for example, Dr. Curry, who was just elected as a professor."
Riley was shocked. Was Moriah Curry going to perform a surgery with her skills?
Then, Jeanne looked at Riley and said with a slightly high pitch, "And we have a doctor that we are familiar with. She was always the backbone of the internal medicine department, and would certainly bring great help to the surgery department, right, Dr. Riley?" What?!
Riley looked at Jeanne in shock, "Me?"
William interrupted her, "Since Dr. Watson is the backbone of the internal medicine department, it is better if she sticks on to her post. We can arrange other surgeons for the surgery."
Jeanne firmly disagreed, "This surgery is very crucial and critical. Dr. Watson, you wouldn't refuse this, would you?"
The meeting room was in silence. Riley looked at her hand and said nothing.
She raised her head and saw William looking at her. His stare was gentle. He was patiently waiting for her, not urging her even a bit.
Jeanne tried to put her in a difficult situation, "Dr. Watson, do you have any inconvenience that you could not say, which made you unable to perform the surgery?"
William interrupted her coldly, "Ms. Pouchain, Dr. Watson is already an outstanding internal medicine doctor. She does not need to prove herself more. Okay. That's it."
William's special care for Riley was so obvious that even Riley could sense it, not to say the other colleague.
Jeanne was irritated. What did Riley do to William that he sided her so much?
The alarm from the intensive care unit suddenly rang. William and Riley almost stood up at the same time, "The patient is in danger!"
William immediately issued an order, "Prepare for the surgery now. Carry both the operations at the same time. Dr. Smith, we will each perform a surgery. You lead the surgery and select your first assistant. Inform the anesthesiology department." Before Dr. Smith could speak, Moriah Curry took the initiative and said, "Dr. Smith, I'll be your assistant."
Dr. Smith was not sure, "You? Can you do it?"
Moriah Curry stood up and smiled at him, "Dr. Smith, the title of professor is not just an election. Don't you believe in me?"
Riley clenched her fist. How was she elected?
Of course, if she knew the crucial vote was from Jeanne, she would not doubt it.
Dr. Smith nodded, "Okay, follow me then."
Jeanne said, "Mr. Hardesty, a large number of medical staff had been in charge of the accident case just now, and there is no other suitable staff now..."
Only Riley was left.
William looked at Riley. She had been his assistant, he believed that they knew each other well, and Riley was capable of the position of his assistant. He smiled gently, "Dr. Riley, would you like to be my first assistant."
Riley had no time to push around, and she nodded, "Okay!"
In the operating room, she changed into the blue surgery uniform. Riley's heart was pounding faster than usual. She loved this uniform. She loved to perform the surgery to remove the patients' source of pain and sickness from its roots. She loved the surgery department, but not as an assistant.
William nodded at her, "Don't be nervous. Believe in yourself."
Riley nodded. Although she had no experience in performing major surgeries, she had been practising with simulation every day, repeating her experiences in the past.
A tough battle began.
"Scalpel..."
Then, seeing William calmly and skillfully performing the dissection skills inspired Riley. She was not comparable to him in either speed or skills. She would be very lucky if she could make William her tutor!
The atmosphere in the operating room was tensed. Everyone was nervous. William was skillfully performing the surgery and was trying to make everyone calm down, "Relax, these intestines and lungs are your acquaintances. Don't feel so awkward as if you were meeting them for the first time."
Riley did not know what to respond.
The metaphor was amazing.
The anesthetist smiled, "I did not expect Mr. Hardesty to be so humorous."
William asked, "Hemostatic forceps please." Then he continued, "If you are not familiar with it, then come and feel it. It's still warm."
Poof!
Riley almost burst out with laughter. Saying that the patient's intestines were still warm! William, are you a comedian instead of a cold and handsome man?
Sure enough, the atmosphere in the operating room was much more relaxed. The operation was extremely complicated, which would take about seven to eight hours. They would be exhausted in a while if they were silently operating. "Suck the blood please."
Riley reached out and sucked away the blood that was blocking the organs.
William looked at Riley in surprise. Her skills shocked him! She was fast and precise. What was she doing before she was an internal medicine doctor?"
The blood stasis condition could not be avoided in the surgery of recovering the ventricular critical splitting. It needed the main surgeon and the assistant to work well. Otherwise, if the organs were blocked then it would be difficult to operate. Riley nodded, "It's ready."
"Okay, start!"
The handover was only for a moment, and the blood was removed. William completed the crucial procedure beautifully with the help of the scalpel!
The operation ended smoothly. William said softly, "I haven't had enough of this and want to finish it up. Dr. Watson, you can leave first."
At the same time, the phone on the wall of the operating room rang.
"Mr. Hardesty, I need some support! Arrange a new first assistant for me! Quick!"
Something happened! Riley's guess was right!
"I'll go!"
