Mr George, Don't Be So Arrogant

Chapter 67 Calling Out His Name In Her Dream

Lydia grabbed Riley's hand swiftly and stuffed an item made from crystal into her hand. Then, with a thud, the object dropped and shattered on the ground.

Lydia cried out loudly and started to whine when she reached the stairhead, "Euan, you are finally home. Riley, she...I only came here to visit you, but she lashed out at me, huhu...Euan..."

As expected, Lydia blamed Riley for breaking the crystal while she emphasized that Riley wanted to hurt her and her unborn child.

Riley did not even bother to explain herself in the face of such a cliché trick.

Euan looked at Lydia, who was shedding tears and was worried about the child in her stomach, "It's okay, I'll get you a new one."

Riley locked her perplexed gaze on Euan. She thought that he would at least ask Lydia the reason for her presence here.

But he did not.

What would other people think of her if they found out that Euan's mistress appeared in their love nest flagrantly?

"This isn't about the crystal. It's Riley. She can't tolerate me at all, and even more so of the child. Euan, your mother, told me to come here and live with you because she hopes that you, as the father can accompany our child's prenatal education. But I didn't expect her to be here too."

She did not know?

Euan thought about the phone call from last night.

Lydia was lying, and Riley wasn't explaining anything.

Riley suppressed the bitterness and aggrievance within her as she forced a smile, "Ms. Saunders, this is my house. Where else should I be if not here?"

"What are you so proud for? Don't even think that you're the lady of the George family just because your name is on the marriage certificate with Euan. No one is acknowledging you now."

Euan frowned, "That's enough. Stop it."

Did that count as a form of protection?

"You should stop it too." After he reprimanded Lydia, he turned to Riley and added.

It turned out to be nothing special.

After the quarrel, Riley requested to go to the guest room downstairs. She was not going to fight over Euan with Lydia. In contrast, from her understanding of Euan, the more they quarreled, the more frustrated he would be. She might as well do the opposite.

"It's important for her and the child to rest. Euan, take good care of her."

Riley left the bedroom graciously, returned to the study, and continued to type on the keyboard with one hand. Sooner or later, they would divorce, so why should she spend time to save this marriage?

But why was her heart hurting? When she saw Lydia in Euan's arms, it hurt her so much to the point it was painful even to breathe.

Once she started her work, she was busy for a few hours. During that period, she was called by the maids to have dinner, but she simply took a few bites and used her work as an excuse. Surely, she did not want to see Lydia do all those lovey-dovey things even more, such as putting food on Euan's plate or feeding him.

What was even more irritating was the fact that Euan did not reject her.

It was almost 10 o'clock at night. Riley rubbed her neck, picked up her empty glass, and stood up to get water. As soon as she exited the study, she heard Lydia's voice that came from the direction of the master bedroom. ""Euan, you're so bad...hahaha..."

"The baby is still small. How can you feel it?"

"Hey, it's ticklish, it's ticklish...hahaha, it's ticklish, Euan..."

From the bursts of deliberately-amplified laughter, Riley could imagine how loving the picture was; they were parents who were waiting for the birth of their child, enjoying the joy of communicating with the little life in the mother's womb.

Riley's eyes were sore. It was painful trying to keep her tears that were threatening to spill in its sockets. She lifted her head and looked up but was too slow to stop her tears as they slipped down her cheeks. She hurriedly wiped it away, poured herself a glass of water, and closed the door to the study.

But even after she closed the door, Lydia's laughter still circled her ears. With a death grip on the glass, Riley's tears, like a pearl necklace that broke, pattered on the keyboard.

There was nowhere she could go to hide from this pain that came from her heart.

She opened the window and left a tiny gap. The wind blew through the window screen and entered the room. It felt a little cold on her skin, but it made her mind clearer. It was a night that was as dark as ink. A night that was empty and lonely.

Riley searched for the information she needed till a little over 11 o'clock. She was too sleepy and fell asleep right in front of the computer.

When Euan came out from the bedroom, the light to the second-floor study was still on.

Was Riley still inside this late at night?

Euan stood in front of the door, hesitated for a moment before he pushed it open. Under the study lamp, laid Riley who was sleeping on the desk with her arm as her pillow.

He walked towards her, but there was no reaction from the girl. The computer screen was still on, and it displayed the thesis she wrote. Euan frowned and thought to himself. Dumb woman, wasn't it good to just stay by his side and get pampered like a wealthy lady? She just had to be so ambitious.

Euan used his slender finger to save the document for her before turning off the computer.

He carried her up in his arms gently, and she felt as light as a feather in his embrace. Slowly, he walked down the stairs and brought Riley to the bedroom on the first floor.

Riley nestled in Euan's arms and murmured something, but he did not catch it.

After a while, she murmured again, "Eu...an..."

Euan's footsteps stopped abruptly as if he had been shocked by electricity and stood in the living room, listening to her voice carefully. This woman was calling his name out in her dream! "Euan...you are so...annoying..."

She whined in a faint voice, probably because of her dream. As opposed to her usual voice, her voice now was soft and warm.

Euan observed her from above. When she slept, she had a relaxed look, but the words she said could rile someone up! It was rare to hear her calling out for him, and it turned out it was to diss him.

Euan's joy left as soon as it came. He placed her on the bed, and just as he was about to retract his hands, Riley caught onto it, "Euan, why are you so annoying...what do I like about you...Euan...actually...I knew you a long time ago..."

After saying all that, her grip on him loosened as she flipped over on the bed and continued to sleep.

Euan waited patiently for her to continue, but she was already asleep. She pursed her lips, and when she slept, she looked somehow like a child.

With one hand on the side of the bed, Euan supported his body as he watched her sleeping face. He lowered his body, and lowered it even more until the point that their lips were almost touching, "Riley Watson, I want to ask myself too, what do I like about you after all that you have done to me?"

After Euan turned off the lights, he left the room.

But he did not want to return to the bedroom on the second floor as well.

Euan went straight to the study. Tonight, his feelings were complicated.

The next morning, Riley woke up and found out that she was already lying on the bed and scratched her head. How did she get down here? Was it sleepwalking? Did the maids carry her down to this bedroom?

Jodie came into the room, smiling as she waited for Riley to wash up, "Madame, you fell asleep in the study last night. It was the young master who carried you down here, and he was extra careful with you in his arms." Riley questioned, "...It was really him?"

Jodie nodded, "Of course, and he even told me to keep my movements light so as to not wake you up."

In an instant, her heart was filled with warmth. If it were Euan, she would be thrilled.

On the other hand, when Lydia woke up, she realized that Euan was not beside her and the pillow next to her was still in its original position, "He didn't sleep here last night? Riley Watson called for him?"

That bitch!

After breakfast, Euan was going to leave for work. Lydia walked past Riley to get to Euan, saying sweetly, "Euan, have a safe journey. Our baby and I will wait for you to come back."

"Mm." It was a plain response, but it was not a cold one.

Riley changed into a pair of heels, and when she bowed her head, she almost burst into tears. Then, she got up and expressionlessly watched them show their affection to each other. Lydia soon went to the living room while the maids served her fruits, whereas Riley picked up her handbag and followed behind Euan. Euan turned back to look at her, "I'm going to work. Why are you following me?"

Riley smiled, "Hitchhiking, I can't drive yet. Just get Victor to drop me at the junction later. I'll hail a cab to the hospital."

He frowned slightly, "You're going to work? In this state?"

"I'm not working. It is about the thesis. I completed the first draft, but I need to get someone to proofread and examine it."

She can't tell Euan that William was the examiner of her thesis.

Euan did not say anything else, allowed her to follow behind him, and got into the car.

Victor turned his head to the backseat and asked with a smile, "Mr. George, we are..." "Go to the hospital first."

"Yes, Mr. George!"

"It's okay! Just drive me to the junction. The hospital and your office are not on the same side of the town."

She didn't want to bother him nor delay his time. As the wealthiest man here, his time was precious. On top of that, he worked really hard.

"Sit down and stop your nonsense."

The atmosphere in the car was a little strange. Euan sat by her side and did not display any apparent emotions. Riley held tightly on the strap of her bag, "Thanks for last night." "What thesis is it?"

".. .." He was not answering to what she said at all.

Riley looked at him. With the sunlight shining across of his side profile, he looked exceptionally charming, "It's about the job titles. It's in my USB flash drive, otherwise, I could show it to you." "Why didn't you print it out?"

His voice was plain as usual, as if the both of them were just another ordinary pair of husband and wife. Such unrealistic thoughts were heart-warming, but it was also too far away to be reached.

"I tried to. But your printer was too high-end, so I failed." She shrugged. As for how she failed after trying for a long time, it was unnecessary to mention that.

After reaching the hospital, Riley went to the cardiology department first. Serena and Margot saw her, and they hurriedly went up to her, "Our hero! You're finally here! You're popular in the hospital now! When you were saving them, you were hurt by a knife, and the helicopter..."

"Dr. Margot..."

Serena's reminder stopped Margot from saying anything else.

Something felt wrong.

When Riley turned behind, she realized there was a new pot of Aspidistra on the desk.

"This? Who is it from?"

"Oh! I don't know. It appeared suddenly. Maybe it's from a certain admirer of yours."

Aspidistra?

Could it be William?

Riley went to meet William for the thesis, and coincidentally, he was around.

"Mr. Hardesty, I came to show you my first draft. There are a few parts that I might need you to correct for me on the spot."

At the sight of Riley, William smiled gently, "You went straight to the point as soon as you entered the door. That's indeed your style."

Riley laughed, "It's better to be more serious about research and work."

William took the USB flash drive from her and printed the document out. He flipped it page by page, only picking up a pen after reading it through it once. As a surgeon, his fingers were slender, long, and clean, "Here, the example is insufficient. For instance, you can use what happened in America last month...and here..."

He gave her advice from the beginning till the end of the document, and it made her thoughts clearer.

It was like she had been filled with wisdom, "Yes, here, I couldn't understand it all this while. As expected from a professional, Mr. Hardesty, you're amazing."

After William organized the thesis, he passed it to her, "I'll correct it according to this and email it to you. Your hand is injured, so you better not type."

Her heart stopped for a beat, and subconsciously, she wanted to keep her distance from him.

"Thanks a lot."

"What's wrong? Why is your expression like that? What happened? Did he...make things difficult for you?"

Riley denied, "No, it's just, you know, workaholics crave for work after not working for a long time."

"Don't hide anything in front of me. I told you that you could tell me anything. Tell me, what's wrong?"

William's persuasive words caused the protective wall of her heart to collapse suddenly, "There's a guest at home, and her identity is kinda special." William frowned, "Lydia Saunders?"

As expected, he saw right through her again.

Riley let out a laugh, mocking herself, "Isn't it ironic? I feel that way too."

It hurt William to see Riley pretending to be strong. Why did she have to do that in front of him?

"What are you planning to do? Drive her away? Or are you going to leave?'
