Logan skimmed through my resignation letter and flung it onto the table with an irritated thud. His narrowed eyes bore into me. "Elaine, you're getting more and more out of line."
He still thought I was being difficult on purpose.
But the truth was, from the moment I met Logan until now, I had never caused him trouble-not once.
When I first moved in with the Mercers, I had no right to be troublesome. Later, when I fell in love with him, I tried to be pleasant, accommodating, and agreeable, hoping to stay in his good graces.
But before my parents passed away, I wasn't like this. I had been the apple of their eye, a bit spoiled. and prone to childish tantrums. After I lost them and moved in with the Mercers, those parts of me vanished. "Do you really think I'm the kind of person who messes around?" I asked lightly, keeping my tone calm. "What have I ever done to trouble you?"
Logan opened his mouth to respond, but no words came out.
Since he couldn't answer, I decided to make my stance clear. "Between us, you've always been the one making a mess of things. In your eyes, I'm just a toy to you.
"When you're bored, you'll pet me on the head and keep me close. But the moment something better comes along, you'll toss me aside without a second thought."
Logan's jaw tightened. "If that's how you see me, then you're truly heartless."
He always found a way to twist things, to make himself the victim. No matter what I said, he would never admit his faults.
I laughed mockingly. "Yes, Logan, I'm the heartless one."
His anger flared. "What kind of attitude is this? Have I wronged you?"
I stared at him, unflinching. "No, of course not. You're so perfect, and yet here I am, still wanting to break up with you. Aren't I just the worst?"
His face darkened, his expression turning stormy. "Stop saying such ridiculous things."
"What do you want me to say, then?" I challenged. "That you're angry with me, so everything I do is wrong? Fine. If leaving will get me out of your sight, I'll gladly go. Isn't that what you want?" Logan's fingers drummed agitatedly against the table. "Elaine, let's not pretend this is about me. Your temper has nothing to do with me-it's because your affections have shifted."
He was grasping at straws now, desperate to pin the blame somewhere.
"You've been involved with Ashton for a long time, haven't you?" His voice was sharp, his accusation
cutting.
His audacity caught me off guard. But since he was so convinced, I didn't bother refuting him. "Not as long as you've been involved with Selene," I shot back. Logan sprang to his feet, his chair scraping loudly against the floor. "Are you really with him?"
So, he was trying to bait me. I met his gaze evenly. "That's my business. I don't think I need to inform you of anything. We broke up, remember? You agreed to it. 14:13

"I did no such thing," he snapped.
I blinked, stunned by his sheer nerve.

Before I could respond, he strode around the table and stopped in front of me. Without warning, he grabbed my arm and pulled me against his chest, his grip strong and unyielding.
"You must've forgotten who you are," he said, his voice low and dangerous. "You're my woman. You've been mine since the day you stepped into the Mercer family."
His domineering tone didn't scare me-it infuriated me. "Yes, Logan, I thought I was your wife too. That's why I stayed by your side like an obedient little lapdog.
"But you were the one who abandoned me halfway. You're the one who chose to chase after other women, especially widows. I'm simply giving you what you want." "Stop talking nonsense!" he barked. "There's nothing between me and Selene!"
I couldn't hold back my scorn. "Logan, I never thought you'd stoop so low. You kissed her, and yet your call it nothing. Then tell me, what counts as something? Sleeping with her? Knocking her up too?"
His grip on me tightened painfully. "I told you-I was drunk. I didn't know what I was doing."
I scoffed. "If you can make a mistake once, you can make it twice. But as for me, I believe some mistakes shouldn't be made even once."
"Stop fucking flattering yourself!" he cursed, his composure cracking.
This side of him-the anger, the excuses, the refusal to own up to his actions-made me wonder why I had ever loved him. What had I seen in someone so pathetic?
"Elaine," he said, his voice dripping with venom, "you're so desperate to leave me just so you can fool around with another man. Don't think I'm an idiot."
I
I was exhausted. "Fine. Think whatever you want. I know your pride won't let you forgive anyone who betrays you. So, let me make it easy for you-let go of this unfaithful, disloyal woman. Let me disappear from your life. Isn't that better?" My words only seemed to fuel his rage. Before I could react, Logan lowered his head and tried to kiss
1. me.
I turned away in disgust, the memory of him kissing Selene flashing in my mind. The thought made my
stomach churn.
But my resistance only seemed to enrage him further.
He forced me back against the table, his hands roaming beneath my clothes as he growled, "If you won't let me kiss you, who will? Ashton? Tell me, did you sleep with him?"
His words and actions humiliated me, filling me with anger and fear.
As his hands slid further up my waist, I felt around desperately for something-anything-to stop him. My fingers closed around a heavy object. Without thinking, I swung it at him with all my s strength.
A loud bang echoed through the room.
Logan froze, his hands falling away from me. His expression shifted from anger to shock as he raised. a hand to his head.
