Chapter 612
The woman was decked out in a fringed evening gown, looking sharp and polished-definitely there to be Everett's plus-one for the event. Her looks weren't exactly head-turning, just about passable, and the makeup did little to boost her appeal. But what really caught the eye was the diamond necklace draped around her neck. A pink diamond, as big as a marble, glittered under the lights, simply stunning. Selena froze on the spot, recognizing the woman as Yasmine. That necklace, which stood for true love, dangled around Yasmine's neck, and Selena saw her stumble a bit when she got out of the car, falling right into Everett's arms. He quickly steadied her, and once she was back on her feet, she smiled up at him, eyes brimming with affection.
Snowflakes gently landed on Everett's shoulders, and Yasmine tiptoed to brush them off, making them look every bit like a cozy couple. Selena, caught in a daze, felt like the awkward outsider in this picture. Her chest ached with a ripping pain, and she couldn't help but wonder if her baby felt her emotional storm too, growing restless inside her.
When Everett and Yasmine strolled into the hotel lobby, Selena held back. She wasn't the same woman from three years ago, desperate for answers. This time around, her attempt at patching things up had mostly been for Mateo's sake and because Everett wouldn't stop chasing her. But now... since he'd chosen to betray their marriage yet again, she had nothing left to say.
Selena rolled her suitcase away. As she waited for the elevator, Everett felt a sudden tug at his heart. He frowned and, like he was being led by some invisible force, glanced toward the entrance. A familiar silhouette instantly came into view. Even without seeing her face, he knew it was the woman who had spent countless nights in his arms.
Without hesitation, Everett hurried after Selena. "Mr. Everett, where are you headed?" Yasmine called out, bewildered. He acted like he didn't hear her. She tried to follow, but Alex stepped in her way. "Ms. Yasmine, you've had a long day, and you're not well. You should rest."
Yasmine protested, "But..." Just then, the elevator doors opened. Alex stood firm, "Please."
Yasmine shot Alex a resentful look, feeling like she was being treated like a criminal. Alex had thwarted
her plans more times than she could count recently. One day, she promised herself, she'd get rid of this nuisance for good. With an icy huff, Yasmine stepped into the elevator.
Out at the entrance, Selena flagged down a cab, and the doorman loaded her bags into the trunk. Just as she was about to slip inside, firm grip caught her slender
face Everett's striking face. "Selena, what are you doing here? Why didn't
shoulder, spinning her around al net
you
tell me?" Everett looked down at her.
Today, she wasn't wearing any makeup, yet her beauty was untouched. After two months apart, she seemed even more delicate, her skin glowing with a rosy hue, soft as a peeled egg. In the chilly air, ske wore a pink knit hat and a classic cashmere scarf from a high-end brand around her neck, looking every bit like a college student, not a mom.
His heart fluttered as he gazed at her, his eyes deepening with
emotion. Selena knew there was no escaping now that he'd seen her. Maybe it was meant to be. She closed her eyes for a moment, and when she opened them again, her demeanor was calm, though her words carried a trace of irony. "Everett, of course, you wouldn't want me here."
