Chapter 41
Alan and Christine returned home later that day. Christine could tell how confused her mate was about the whole situation, as she could feel his guilt and discomfort. She knew he was feeling guilty because both men in question were his nephews and they both deserve a chance at love and being the person he is, Christine was certain that he had promised to help Hugh bring his mate to him, thinking it was Hailey. Now that he realizes that it isn't her, he has no idea what to do.
Taking a deep breath, she joins her mate on the couch where he was quietly sitting since they got back from Roy's place. She placed her hand on his, entwining their fingers.
“I understand how you feel.” She quietly said.
“It's not as easy as I thought. They're all affected by this, especially Kimberly. She has no idea what this is all about and now the worse part is, she isn't even ready to believe us... Christine, if she doesn’t make a decision soon, I'm afraid things will get ugly.” Alan confessed
"She'll make her choice sooner than we expect. She just needs some time to herself... She'll come around, you'll see.”
Alan had to tell Roy the same thing just to calm him a bit but, the truth was that he doubted it. She is human and had a life before this, so it's going to be difficult for her to accept this life. That has always been the case with the humans who were mated to werewolves, it takes a long time before they eventually accept their new lives. His greatest fear now was that, Kimberly might end up choosing no one.
Alan held his mate's hand tighter for some kind of comfort.
“Should I tell you a secret?” Christine asked her mate after realizing that what she said earlier didn't help ease his discomfort.
"If it's going to help the present situation, I guess I would like to hear it.”
“I have a feeling Kim is going to accept Roy as her mate.. No, I don't just feel it, I know for sure.” Alan just stared at her confusedly and with disbelief, hoping she'd further explain what she meant. "Okay, okay. I'll tell you.” She raised her hand in surrender after noticing Alan's expression.
“It's just. she acts like she doesn't care about any of this, like she’s mad at Roy but.. I notice how she looks out the window every time he isn't home, like she wants him to show up any second and when he shows up, she stares at him so lovingly, like she can't get enough of him. There's always this twinkle in her eyes whenever I speak of him.”
Christine had a big smile her face while she explained, staring dreamingly into nothing like she was reminiscing about her past.
"So.. there is nothing to worry about.” She concluded after coming out of her trance.
That was a relief to Alan, knowing that Roy had a chance. He deserves it after having to deal with so many things.
"So, the question now is.. What are you going to tell Hugh?”
“I think I'll have to tell him the truth.” Alan simply replied, making Christine smile.
“Thank you.” She whispered, placing her head on his shoulder.
Kimberly sat by the lakeside crying her eyes out, wondering what her life was slowly turning into. How did she end up here? From being a doctor with a very happy life, to losing her fiancé and ending up at a stranger's house. Later discovering that this stranger wasn't human and now, she's being told that her mom wasn't also human and that she’s fated to be with not just one man but two, a werewolf or whatever there were.
All of this was messing with her head. She doubts she would still be sane when she eventually gets out of this place.
Is she ever going to return home? Are these people even going to help her leave this place? She doubted that.
With all she just discovered, these people would keep her here for their own selfish reasons. All of these thoughts made Kimberly break down in another round of sobs.
She didn't care if it was already dark, all she wanted to do was cry her eyes out till she falls asleep, that way, she would wake up from this horrible nightmare.
The sound of leaves rustling got her attention. She jerked her head up to know where the sound was coming from but then, her eyes caught sight with a pair of yellow ones from a distance, making her gasp in fear.
She noticed the eyes where staring directly at her, sending shivers down her spine.
Please don't kill me. She mentally pleaded as she noticed the pair of eyes coming closer.
A really large black werewolf came in view, making her tremble.
“Please, don't hurt me.” Her voice was shaky and barely audible as she backed away from the approaching creature.
She couldn't go much distance, as it was soon in front of her.
“Gosh, this thing is huge! She thought to herself, staring wide eyes at the black werewolf.
She couldn't help wondering why she felt like she knew this werewolf. Could it be that she had seen it before? Why wasn't it attacking her? Then realization hit her like a ton of brick.
"Roy?!" she gasped
The werewolf sat on the ground, it's eyes held sadness in them making her remember why she was out here in the first place. Fresh tears rolled down her face as she thought of the possibility that she was never going back home.
Suddenly she felt something soft against her skin. The werewolf nuzzled her face like it was wiping away her tears and at the same time stopping her from crying. She tensed at the contact but soon relaxed. It's fur was so soft against her skin.
She tly reached out to it, running her hand over its muzzle, trailing down to Its jaw. The werewolf nuzzled its head into the palm of her hand, releasing a small whimper to her surprise.
Did she hurt it in any way without knowing? She wondered and didn’t think about her next action, as she wrapped her arms around its neck for comfort, crying uncontrollably into its neck.
After what felt like hours, Kimberly stopped crying and eventually fell asleep. Roy couldn't stop himself from staring at her beautiful face, she was cuddled up against him. He shifted back to his human form so he could take her inside because he didn't want her catching a cold.
This moment brought a wave of nostalgia to Roy. He remembered the times when Caroline would cuddle up with him till she fall asleep. He quickly shook off those memories and scooped Kimberly in his arms, taking her into the house.
On reaching upstairs, he contemplated whether or not to take into his bedroom because he wanted to be sure she'd be okay when she wakes up, but he was nervous she would react the same way she did when she discovered he was a werewolf.
Every time Kimberly rejected him, either by acting frightened or ignoring him, he felt like his heart has been stabbed a million times.
After much contemplation, he decided she was going to sleep in his bedroom. He was ready to take whatever reaction she would give him in the morning because he understands she has been going through a lot and as a human, all of this is new and overwhelming for her.
He carefully placed her on the bed and tucked her in with a blanket, placing a kiss on her head before walking towards his closet to get a sweatpants.
A noise stirred Kimberly from sleep, her eyes fluttered open to an unfamiliar bedroom. She nervously bit her lips, wondering where she is, but it didn't take long for her to realize where she was as he heard someone mumbling beside her, it was Roy to her surprise.
He was mumbling to himself, it seemed he was having another nightmare. But, how did she end up here?
A groan escaped Roy's lips causing her to turn her attention back to him. She used this opportunity to take in his handsome feature. He continued stirring in his sleep, making her wonder if staying here like this was a right decision.
What if he wakes up and gets mad at her for being in his room? But she could swear, she didn't come here by herself. Yet, she feared what the outcome would be like when he eventually wakes up. She watched quietly as his eyebrows furrowed, as he shut his eyes tighter like would help him get away from whatever nightmare he was having.
If only she could help put an end to all his nightmares, once and for all.
Slowly reaching for his face, she traced her fingers on his lips that were quite tempting to kiss. She lightly stroked his cheek bones with her thumb and noticed that his face slowly relaxed and within seconds he was fast asleep.
She slowly leaned in and placed a feather like kiss on his lips before carefully placing her head on his chest, as she listened to his now steady heartbeat.
At this moment, Kimberly no longer cared if he would ignore her all morning or yell at her for spending the night in his bedroom. All she wants is to always be like this with him, mate or not, she felt like this was where she belonged.
With that last thought, she closed her eyes and let her dreams be only about Roy.
