Chapter 25
After taking a shower, Kimberly wore a loose tank top and skinny jeans and wrapped her hair in a messy bun. She slumped on the bed and let out a sigh. Why did she come here in the first place? She asked herself. All she wanted was to save her relationship but look how it ended, she has lost him forever, he isn't coming back this time. They wouldn't get married or have kids like they had planned.
Why was life so cruel?
In that moment, Kimberly heard a knock on the door, she quickly wiped her tears and answered. “Come in."
Roy soon appeared, closing the door behind him.
“Hey.” He greeted
"Hey
“I was wondering if you'd like to go outside and get some air.”
Kimberly could tell that it wasn't a suggestion, but rather a request. So, she nodded, stood up from the bed and walked to the door.
Roy let the door open for her.
“Thank you.” Kimberly replied before walking out of the bedroom.
As soon as the wind hit Kimberly's face, memories of that ugly incident came flooding back, making her regret why she gave in to Roy's request. She immediately turned back and was about going back inside the house, but was prevented by a hand.
“You need this. I know it may not be easy, but it's necessary.” Roy said.
She could tell he was concerned but his straight face was making her feel like she was only making that up in her head.
Roy's hand on her skin brought sparks all over her body, making her knees suddenly go weak. Why was she feeling this way?
She misses lan’s touch badly, but that didn't mean her body was supposed to react this way to another's man touch.
She didn't need just any man’s touch, she needed her fiancé, her love, her life, the man she cherished with her whole heart. The thought of him brought tears to her eyes
Roy noticed the change in her mood and slowly but reluctantly let go of her arm, not wanting to upset her family.
She inhaled deeply, trying to fight back her tears.
“I'm sorry.” She whispered.
Changing her mind, she took slow steps outside the house. She needed to be strong for herself and her dad.
She needs to stay alive and be determined to leave this horrible place, so wherever her fiancé and friends were, they would be happy she survived.
But, how was she supposed to do it all by herself, in a place where hasn't been to before now? This was her first time in the woods and the worse part was, she had no idea how they came in, so how was she supposed to leave without getting killed by those wild dogs.
She stared ahead towards the direction from which she came running into Roy's house and couldn't help but tremble with fear at the thought of those dogs.
What if they come back when they get hungry again? Where would she run to?
She was lucky the last time to have found this house after some distance of running.
What if they weren't any other houses besides the cabin and this one never existed? She would definitely have been killed by those dogs.
Why would someone even want to live out here in the woods all by himself? And how were they able to build such a beautifully modern house without getting killed? She wondered, still staring ahead when she felt a hand on her shoulder making her flinch.
“Are you okay?" Roy asked, this time with concern
“C'mon, let's go.” He gestured for her to follow him when she didn't reply to his question. Kimberly couldn't give a reply to his question because she didn't know what to say and wasn't sure of anything anymore.
One minute she had thought that everything was fine and she was having fun, the next minute everyone was murdered in cold blood by some huge animals. So, right now she has no idea what to think anymore.
When Kimberly came to the realization that she was standing all by herself and wasn't following Roy like he had asked her to, she jogged to catch up with him not willing to risk anymore second behind, all by herself. She noticed he had a smirk on his face when she caught up with him.
“You aren't the athletic type, are you?” Roy asked as he noticed her trying to catch her breath. Kimberly used to run several staircase and hallways in the hospital when the elevators were occupied while trying to save lives, yet she didn't get exhausted as much as she did now.
What was happening to her?
Yeah, yeah, she isn't athletic in nature and all that, but she was beginning to get too weak for her own good.
Se guess it's because she's going through a nervous, emotional and mental breakdown at this point in her life.
"Why do you live out here all alone?” she blurted out instead, making Hugh halt in his steps. Kimberly knew she wasn't supposed to ask such a question but she couldn't help it, it was the only thing she could think of at the moment.
“I don't live here alone.” He chuckled.
That sounded so pleasant to Kimberly's ears. She wished he'd do it more often.
Stop, Kimberly stop. She mentally cautioned herself to help her from continuously having those stupid thoughts.
“We're like a community out here. I only chose to live a few distance away from the others.” "What?!" Kimberly exclaimed in surprise, finding it hard to believe that people actually lived out here.
Who would want to live so close to wild and dangerous animals.
"So... do does dogs occasionally come and hurt people like they did to my friends?”
Roy could hear the sadness in her voice, it broke his heart. He turned around to face her and saw that she was already in tears, this caused a sudden pain to his chest. Those bastards are behind his mate's tears.
“No. They can't do that cos they don't belong here.” He said through clenched teeth as he tries to suppress his anger.
“Where do they belong then?!” Kimberly yelled, gripping her hair in frustration.
“They killed my fiancé and my friends without a warning, so how can you be so sure they won't do the same here?!” she lashed out at him and began to sob, as that was the only way she could express the pain she was going through.
Roy on the other hand didn't get anything Kimberly just said, except the word “fiance.’ He couldn't believe his ears, his mate was with someone else.
She just wasn't with that person, they were fucking engaged while he was here drowning in despair for not being able to find his mate.
He was beyond pissed at this point and so was his wolf. She belonged to them and no one else. He ought to be the only man in her life, but no, she had someone else.
All these time, she was happy with another man. He could feel his claws extending due to the current rage growing inside him.
Kimberly noticed that Roy now had his back against her. She could tell he was visibly shaking and she had no idea why.
“Roy?” she called with caution, carefully walking to him but he ran into the woods before she could get to him.
“Roy!” she yelled, but he was out of sight, leaving her out here alone and vulnerable.
“I'm sorry.” She whispered in tears, knowing that she had upset him.
Roy couldn't contain his wolf anymore, as it so badly wants to take control because they were both upset.
All these years, he had been waiting for someone who wouldn't even feel the same way.
Why in hell was he being punished this way?
He ran further into the woods, away from her before fully letting his wolf take control, ready to rip any animal that got in its way.
After many hours of running, his wolf let out a fierce howl of anguish that echoed throughout the pack.
Kimberly flinched at the sound of the howl outside, it sounded far away but she was still scared to death.
She was presently in the living room, waiting for Roy who wasn't yet back. The sun had already set making her even more worried that something bad might have happened to him.
Se couldn't help but think about that howl, it sounded like a wolf.
At that point, she realized that her fiancé and friends weren't killed by like she had thought, but by wolves. That was why they looked so big.
But wolves weren't supposed to be that big or where they? Her mind couldn't help but wonder as she hugged her knees, waiting for Roy's return.
