Chapter 231
Chapter 0231
“Then why did you stay with me? Why not break up with me and be with him?” Brady asked, the pain
evident in his voice.
“BECAUSE I STILL LOVED YOU! I NEVER LOVED ANDREW! I LOVED YOU!” Evelyn whisper-yelled. “Andrew
begged me to spend my 20th birthday with him in Canada, because he wanted us to be together when I could first identify my
mate, But I insisted on being at Black Moon because a small part of me hoped that
you would be my mate and not him.
ted you to have
And then you were. And I was so happy. But you were not. Instead, you panicked. I wanted you to
the same excitement about marking each other that Andrew would have had, but you did not. He made
me feel special, but you made me feel like an obligation or a burden.”
Brady frowned as Evelyn paused.
“I moved to Andrew’s pack as soon as I could after the rejection. Andrew was relieved that I came back
to him. He said it did not matter that we were not fated, mates, because he knew that the Moon Goddess
wanted us to be together. I was overwhelmed by heartbreak and the emotions of it all, and so I agreed.
We marked each other, making me his forever.”
“It has been YEARS. Why not leave it there? Why focus on Lily now?” Charlotte asked softly.
“Because the bond is not fully broken! I mean it is, but I still have feelings for you, Brady. I always have.
But I wanted you to fight for me. I wanted you to threaten to kill Andrew so that you could have me back.
Hell, there were times that I actually wanted you to kill him. But you never did.
I told myself that it was okay, because at least I could tell that you were suffering and living with your
regret. But then my family told me that Lillith was here and you had been taking her places and seeming
happy. And I… I just could not accept that. It was not fair:”
Brady sighed. “I think we know the rest,” he said. “But what we do not know is who you are working with
and how they found you. And why they picked you to help them.”
“Brady, please. Do not make this worse. JUST GIVE THEM LILY! DO WHAT THEY WANT!!! IT HAS BEEN
HOURS-HOURS!!! SINCE OUR SON WAS KIDNAPPED! PLEASE!”
“Tell us. what. we need. to. know,” Brady repeated.
“FINE!” Evelyn sneered. “You will not do it? They said they will take her dead or alive. I WILL DO IT! I will
take care of our son!”
Evelyn suddenly jumped out of her chair, extended a claw, and went for my neck.
“STOP, EVELYN!” James yelled.
Evelyn froze. James had used the alpha command.
“Take your h
and place them on either side of her head,” Rose linked me.
“Why?”
“We can talk to her wolf and pull some of her memories from her,” Rose explained.
“Won’t that hurt the pup?” I asked.
“No. But we need to do it quickly so that James can lift his alpha command. The command may hurt the
pup if it stays in place too long.”
I looked at everyone else. “Rose says that I need to put my hands on either side of Evelyn’s head while
she is frozen. She says that it will not hurt the pup if we do it quickly.”
Dr. Hyder nodded, gesturing for me to do it.
Somewhat timidly, I approached Evelyn and did as Rose instructed. Minutes later, I was floored. I let go.
“J-James?”
“Yes, my love?”
“You have the same powers that I have, right? I want you to see what I just saw. Make sure that I am
interpreting it correctly.”
James looked at Dr. Hyder, and Dr. Hyder nodded. “Do it quickly, and then we need you to lift the alphal
command.”
James approached Evelyn and did the same thing that I had just done. Once it was over, he looked at me
with horror and sadness in his eyes.
“Evelyn, you can move,” he said quietly. “Do not mind-link anyone until further command,” he added in his
alpha voice.
Evelyn went to continue her attack on me, but Brady had already positioned himself to restrain her.
Dr. Hyder opened the door for two of the guards. He must have mind-linked them while we were talking
to Evelyn’s wolf and going through her memories.
“Take her to the dungeons,” Dr. Hyder instructed. “Place her in one of the silver cells so that she cannot
mind link anyone.”
“Evelyn, the alpha order restricting you from mind-linking ends when you enter the silver cell,” James said
quietly.
The guards put silver handcuffs on Evelyn and escorted her away.
Once they were gone, Dr. Hyder turned to James and I.
“What is it?” Dr. Hyder asked.
“We found the missing link,” James said somberly. “It was right there the whole time, and I did not see it.”
“What it is?” Brady asked.
“We need to talk to Andrew,” I replied. “Now.”
