Master of his heart (Max and Brielle)

Chapter 1454

Lewis sat there, thinking about the lively spark in Kailee's eyes, his own gaze flickering with a hint of something unsettled. After Kailee stormed off, her steps seemed to cut through the air, and she couldn't help but wonder why she kept running into that jerk. But then again, his casual "Hmm" had stirred something warm inside her. Could it mean what she thought? That couldn't be right; he was the one who wanted to call it quits.

Pride was a big deal for Kailee. She had bragged to her so-called friends that she was the one who dumped Lewis, but in reality, it was Lewis who had ended things. As she sat in the car, a nagging unease lingered. What did Lewis really mean with those last words? Checking her phone, she saw a message pop up in the group chat from Ruby: "Kailee, are you sure you dumped Kenzo? I'm gonna ask him myself. If he dumped you, well, just move on. It's pretty standard, considering you probably didn't last more than a month, right?" That message made Kailee's blood boil. Below Ruby's message, the other so-called friends added their two cents. "No way Kailee dumped Lewis. He's like a genius, and Kailee didn't even finish high school."

"Yeah, if Lewis liked someone, it'd be someone on his level. I heard during his internship, heiresses were lining up, not just for medical reasons. And did you know about his family? They're loaded." "Exactly. Kailee's pretty, but among all those classy women, why would Lewis choose someone less... intellectually stimulating?"

Those words hit Kailee where it hurt. She'd been mocked plenty for not being the brightest. Fuming, she thought if these so-called friends went to Lewis and he confirmed it, she'd be the laughingstock. Compared to Lewis, these girls were way more awful. Meaner, too.

Kailee didn't tell the driver to go; instead, she got out and marched back to the diner. Luckily, Lewis was still there sitting by the window, all alone From outside, he looked pretty darn good. Ugh! Why was she finding her ex attractive? Maybe she needed her eyes checked,

Taking a deep breath, she pushed open the door and walked in. Lewis noticed her, but didn't even flinch, casually pouring himself a cup coffee with the kind of elegance that made her want to roll her eyes. Such a show-off.

She sat across from him. Lewis smirked, "Back already?"

Kailee slapped a card on the table. "There's fifty grand on this. Keep our secret."

Lewis, always sharp, feigned ignorance. "What secret?"

Kailee took a deep breath, her voice a whisper. "Don't tell them I was the one dumped."

Her voice was barely a whisper. Lewis raised an eyebrow, "What was that? Speak up. I didn't catch that."

Kailee gritted her teeth, "Don't let those girls know you dumped me! Lewis, if you say anything, my brother will make sure you regret it!"

She grabbed his collar, pulling him

closer. "Just so you know, my brother doesn't mess around. Some guy tieked me off once, and poof, he vanished from North America the next day."

Their faces were so close, they could feel each other's breaths. Lewis, reminded of a certain incident, blushed but tried to keep his cool. "Let go of me first."
