Mark of the Rising Sun

Chapter Evil Awakens

Two creatures were sitting in an old school building talking. They look up as another two descend from the ceiling. “About time you show up, we’ve been waiting here for hours.” One of them speaks up.

One of the newcomers grabs the first by the throat and lets out a snarl, “Now look here, we have been staking out the house. We have to make sure that nobody is going to interfere with our mission. We have waited almost over a thousand years to take this witch down, and we are not going to mess it up.”

They quarreled a while before the biggest of the creatures spoke up. “Guys, guys, we don’t need this. The time has come to make our presence known and begin the assault. The fighters have been chosen, and while we don’t yet know who they are, the woman from our last battle, we do know.”

“But why are we worrying about that old hag? She is not going to be a part of this new fight.”

“You fool; this is why I was chosen as leader this time, because you have no imagination. This woman made us lose last time, and it is about revenge. Also, there is a chance that she has contacted one of our foes, and if she has, we might find out who they are and ambush them. Even if it weren’t the case, she would still be a valuable asset to the Light Warriors, and we need to take away every advantage they have.”

“What about the rules? The rules state that we can harm no one except the warriors until the battle is decided. By doing this, we risk all-out war.”

“Once a warrior, always a warrior, besides, they wouldn’t want to risk open war on such a trivial matter. Just you watch nothing will happen. Also, I am tired of all this waiting. We fight, and then wait, it’s time that we finish this once and for all, but only if all else is lost. If we win, we can take our victory tour before smashing those light beings down for good.”

“The leaders will not like this talk from you. If you had not already been chosen and marked, I am sure they would remove you from the battle completely. You know what happened the last time the sides fought without holding back. However, I do like the idea of starting early and taking them by surprise.”

“Good then, we attack tonight, ready yourselves.”

The four warriors strategized and waited as the sun slowly drifted lower in the sky. When it was dark, the group slunk out of the school and towards their unsuspecting target. They stuck to the shadows, never getting close to anyone until they reached an old dilapidated building. There they waited in silence, then by unspoken agreement; they rushed the building and busted out a window on the main floor.

When they entered the building, it looked a lot nicer than its exterior depicted. They found a woman holding a phone, which she immediately dropped and tried to destroy. The two sides faced off for a moment before the woman looked away, a little bit of panic in her eyes, and a bit of acceptance as well.

“What are you doing here? The rules state that you can only harm those who are selected by the fighting. I had my battle and won, leave now.”

The leader spoke up, “I don’t think so. You see, you were a warrior and I don’t want you interfering with the new group, and I am tired of the old rules. I think it is time to change it up a bit if you don’t mind. Actually, I don’t care if you mind or not. You will die here, and then the new warriors will die or be captured, we will rule the world.”

“You will never win. No matter what happens, good will always triumph over evil, and the same will happen this time.”

“You are wrong. You will only be the first in many casualties in the coming conflict, and then the forces of darkness will control the earth for the rest of time. It is only a matter of taking down the right people at the right time, and you will be the first.”

With that, the talking stopped and the fighting ensued. The old woman fought bravely, her earth magic making great headway against the creatures, but she was outmatched. Age it seems, had finally taken a toll on her, and she was outnumbered four to one. The four creatures battered down her defenses, and weakened her. Then, when she could fight no more, one creature used his fire to drain the last of her body’s fluids leaving it a dry husk.

The creatures searched the room and found only two items of interest. The first was the wrecked cell phone, the other was a box in the corner marked for Angela. The box was unattainable to them, no matter how hard they tried, or how many spells they threw at it, they could neither get to nor destroy the box. The phone, however, was another story altogether. Although the exterior of the phone had been damaged, the sim card was still intact. They decided to take it along with them.

As they were leaving the building, a car pulled up in the driveway. The creatures, their violent tendencies sated for the night, decided to slink out the back way without beings seen by the humans that had interfered with their celebrations. They had accomplished their goals, and by the looks of it, learned at least the name of one of their foes, Angela.

Back at the old school building, they called together some of their human allies. “We called you here because we are ready to start our fight with the warriors of light. We have a little bit of information, and need a lot more before we can make plans. We think a girl named Angela is one of them, but don’t know more than that. The woman who we killed tonight knows more, but all we have is her SIM card. We want you to take it, and find out if there is any information on it. Then, find out all that you can about this Angela, she will be the first of our targets.”

One of the men stepped forward, “As always, it is a pleasure to serve you my lords. We will do what we can to make sure your desires are fulfilled. I will place my very best men on it. We have computer guys that can work wonders and they will find out who this mystery girl is for you.” With that, the men left, to find out all they could, and the creatures waited for news.

It was over a week before something new happened, the creatures were growing impatient with the lack of news, but knew that their minions would not disappoint, or they would not live long enough to enjoy anything. The day came when the secret door being opened stirred the creatures. They held their breaths as the lead man from before entered the room.

Unable to bear it any longer the leader asked, “So, do you have the information we seek, or was it a bust?”

“I assure you masters, I have good news for you. It took my best guys, and a lot of work, but we were able to ascertain the identity of the girl in question. We were unable to find out anything about any other light warriors though, it appears that neither of them have knowledge of the other three’s whereabouts.”

In a fit of frustration, one of the creatures screeched out, “Tell us now you fool, who is this girl? Do we have reason to worry?”

“No my lords, she is but a young witch, only 12 years old. She is in her first year at school and is studying wind magic. Her name is Angela Green. She will be easy pickings for you, she is weak and alone.”

“You have done well servant, continue to serve us faithfully and your rewards will be great. Now give us everything you have on the girl and leave us to plan. We will be in contact with you again when we have a plan that needs carrying out.”

“As you wish.” He bowed out and left the creatures to discuss this development amongst themselves.

The leader spoke to one of the smaller creatures, “Since she is a wind elemental, she will be your responsibility. She should be no trouble for one such as you at her level. You will have the honor of taking her down yourself.”

“Thank you, I will not disappoint. It is sad that our first victory will be over such a weakling, but a win is a win. Do you want her alive or dead?”

“Alive for now. We can use her for bait to catch the others. If we can capture them all alive, our victory will be all the sweeter as they will watch the fall of humanity with horror-filled faces, then when the world is completely ours, we will kill them.”

“A great plan, but what if one escapes?”

“It won’t happen, if we capture one, we will take them to our fortress, and there is no return from there. We will be triumphant.”

With that being said, the four creatures went about setting their plans into motion and preparing for the time when they make their first strike against humanity.
