Chapter Epilogue
At the river, the next morning:
I had to take a walk, for just a little moment.
Standing at the spot, where I had killed Radu last night, I was thinking things over. I truly hoped that his soul had saved my mother’s, but I could never be sure. The Goddess wasn’t just a person you could ring, and ask how she or my mother was doing.
I chuckled at the rampage that I had created, and began to pick up some branches and stones. Neatly I put the branches on one big pile, and the rocks I had bunched up together at the broken boulder at the edge of the water.
Slowly cleaning this place, gave me a calming feeling. My mind had been rushing all night, from fighting with Radu but by the time I was done, I was much more at ease.
“So, that’s looking much better.” I said softly, while brushing my hands, from the dirt that now was on them.
My eye caught up on something odd, that I had seen in the grass, and I took a few steps towards it.
I don’t know how this was possible, as the grass along the river here, was trampled by our fighting yesterday. But now, it was littered with small little white flowers! Just the tiniest petals, appeared, and more and more started to sprout out, everywhere I had cleared up the branches and rocks!
Soon, the whole area around me, was filled with a blanket of little white daisies. It was a magical sight to behold, and I wondered how this could be.
All the carnage that had taken place yesterday, was covered now by this bright blanket, and it made me realise that it resembled a place that I have visited recently.
This was a sign, from above, from my mother, to let me know that she was alright.
Her soul was saved, she was on the good side of death. She was in the white world of the Goddess.
Tears ran over my face, and Dakota’s absence of talking, yet the presence of her spirit, made me howl in joy.
Aron had heard me and came out of the treeline, as he had been watching me cleaning up the rubble, I suppose. He was going to let me do this on my own, but upon hearing my howl, he came out, walking up to me, hugging me tightly.
I wrapped my arms around his neck, and sobbed his shirt wet.
“I’m sorry that I kissed him.” I whispered.
“It’s alright love, you don’t have to explain. I can’t really comprehend it myself, but somewhere I know, deep down, that you did that to comfort his soul.” He said, as I listened to his voice while I had my head on his chest.
I nodded to him, not knowing exactly why or how he would think like this, but he was right. Aron always seems to know how my mind works, maybe even better than I do so myself. He is my perfect mate, my perfect wolf, mine.
“I love you.” I said.
“I love you too.”
At her mountain, a few days later:
“What the fuck? You are pregnant?” I asked my sister.
“That is what you heard? I was telling you that I was having a fight with Michael, because he wasn’t letting me fight alongside with you! He shouldn’t be dictating me what to do and what not!” Amy frantically shouted.
“Well sis, he did have a pretty damn good reason for it!” I shouted now.
“That’s just a minor detail!” She said and stuck out her tongue.
“Well the only thing that is ‘minor’ is the pup inside of you!”
“Nah, it will be born in two months already, so not that minor. I have been hiding my bump with wearing big shirts, and you never saw it.” She said, stating the obvious.
“Yes, that’s something that I still can’t, seeing the details, or ask about how people are doing…” I sighed.
“That’s alright big sis, we know you love us.” She said and hugged me.
Terrence came into the room.
“Sorry my Queen, but everything has been arranged, we can leave in a few minutes.” He said and left the room again.
He had been acting off, ever since everything had ended. Aron had said that he was feeling regretful for the fact that he had ‘killed’ me with the machine, and even though I had told him not to worry about it, he still did. Luckily he still had Berrant to brighten up his day, every now and then.
The last few days we had been busy with sorting out all the people from my packs. Due to the war, a lot of my wolves had been killed, and thus my packs had been decimated violently. I had been talking things over with the important people in my life, and had come to the decision that my people could decide on their own, where to live.
Daniel and Frida had decided to be chosen mates, and were now planning to get married in the next spring. Also, Daniel had been given back my land. And the remainder of my packs could choose to either live their lives where they had been right now, under the command of Daniel, or to come with me to the northern continent, to join in on another adventure.
Aron is my mate, I am the future Queen of the northern continent, so I couldn’t stay here. I was moving to the cold, and anyone from my pack, who wanted to come along with me, was blessed to do so too.
Furthermore, Magda had taken the bold first step to approach Dimitri and had been making out with him all day. I had chuckled when I heard them fight over who the rightful owner now was of the crystal blades, but soon they had decided to go to Dimitri’s place together, so they wouldn’t have to share them.
At the northern continent:
In a few hours I will be anointed Queen, officially. But right now I was sitting in my room, together with my grandmother, talking through some things.
“Oh, that is so beautiful, I wish I could have seen that. I’m glad that she is safe now.” She said, after I told her the story about the little daisies that I had seen at the river.
She let out a few tears, and hugged me tightly, before pushing me back and looked at me with surprised eyes.
“Why did you kiss Radu, right before you killed him?” She asked me, right after the moment came back into her memory.
“I don’t know really, I guess that it felt strange not to. I mean, he never hurt me physically, when I was at his mansion, and he never tried to advance on me on a sexual level, so I guess I wanted to thank him? I don’t know.” I said, and she nodded.
“Are you agreeing to that?” I asked her confused.
“Yes, somehow I know what you feel. I have lived with him too, and I know that he was a monster who orchestrated many massacres and who drank blood from his victims, and he took advantage of me like I was an object, but he never hurt me. Even though he could have done that so easily.” She said.
I was feeling a little hot, and took off my sweater.
“Right, and apparently he had children in his life, once, so I guess he wasn’t a monster when he was still human. Something just snapped in his brain, when bad things happened to him, which wasn’t his fault. But I still had to kill him, because he could have chosen a different path.” I said to her.
“Yes, it’s truly strange how our mind works, right?”
“Yes it is strange.”
“But what about Aron? Isn’t he angry at you, for the kiss?” She asked me now, stunned to realise what I did, while he had been right there.
“No, actually, when he caught me at the daisies, he said he understood why I did it. He even said that somehow he knew that I did it to comfort his soul.” I explained.
“A true soulmate.” She said with a caring smile and she hugged me again.
“Yes, just like you and gramps.” I said.
“What?” She pushed me back and looked shocked.
“Oh come on! You can see some of your future, but you haven’t seen how he looked at you? He still has the hots for you gran!”
Her cheeks reddened, and she stuttered for a while. I stood up from the bed and opened a window. Is it that hot in here?
“Do you think that after all these years, he still, you know, could do that?”
“Sjeezz, I don’t want to think about my grandparents making out, but hell yeah he could! He is a freaking Lycan, and a King too! I bet that if you get into his room now, that you can jump his bones in a second!” I laughed.
“Emerson!” She yelled, and covered her face with her hands.
In front of the door of the great hall:
“Are you ready?” Amy asked me, as she stood next to me and Aron.
“No.” I said while fidgeting at the clothes I was wearing, and they both chuckled.
She nodded towards the guard at the door, to open it, and I sighed.
I looked at Aron one more time, and he gave me a gorgeous handsomely smile, and a kiss, before we walked inside. His touch made me feel even warmer than I had felt in the room with my grandmother!
Benches filled with wolves and Lycans, both from my own old pack and that of Aron’s, stood on the sides of the isle in the middle. Above us, on the balconies, people from my grandfather’s council and other acquaintances looked down on us, on me.
And in front of me, stood a set of royal chairs, one with my grandfather in it, and the other with my grandmother.
They both wore their royal necklaces, the ones that they would transfer to me and Aron, just as it had been tradition, to every new generation of Kings and Queens.
“You were right.” My grandmother linked me, while she squeezed my grandfather’s hand.
“Seriously? Right now you are telling me that you’ve had sex with him?” I yelled back to her, through the link and my grandfather chocked on hearing my thoughts.
I laughed and Aron looked at me in confusion, but I just shook my head. I will never tell him about that!
We finally reached the front of the rows and rows of benches, and I smiled to who sat there. Everyone we love are seated in the front two rows, and I nodded to them for their appearance here. All of our friends and family, including my father and his mate, Amy’s mother, sat at the seats. Then another person, of whom I hadn’t expected him to come, took a step forward so I could see him.
Much to displeasure of most of the wolves here, he did come, but I couldn’t care less about what people thought of him.
He had saved my life, twice, and he hasn’t killed a single wolf during the battle, so he should be here.
Marius was dressed in one hell of a beautiful, intricately designed, black and white tuxedo. Totally overdressed, and out of place compared to all the leather and fur that everyone else was wearing.
I chuckled at his appearance, as he did in return. We both knew he looked amazing, but just extremely odd in this setting.
The ceremony went as planned, luckily without any strange happenings or interruptions.
Besides from me, taking off the fur coat, as my temperature kept rising.
After the cheering and gratulations, Aron and I walked back along the same isle that brought us to the front of the great hall.
“Straight to our room, my Queen.” Aron linked me.
“But there is a banquet we have to go to.” I whined at him, not wanting to go there either, but we are the King and Queen now, we can’t just let those people wait for us!
“You are in heat my love, I can feel the warmth radiating off of you for a while now, and I can’t control myself anymore.” He said while clutching my arm more tightly in his.
In heat? But how? I can’t reproduce!
Shit!
I looked up towards the roof, meaning to look at the sky, referring to where my mother was now.
“Yes, you have a long way to go, as a Queen, and something else as well.” My mother had cryptically said, and now I know what she meant…
The Goddess had not only granted me the ancient mark, from my ancestors, but she also did something else.
Once we left the great hall, Aron picked me up, and took me to our room.
“We are going to miss the banquet love, sorry.” Aron growled and I laughed.
“I’m stronger than you are now, I might want to fight you to get myself some food first!” I chuckled to him.
“Food over sex? No, I know you better than that.” He said and continued to carry me over to our room, completely ignoring the fact that I said I am stronger than him.
“Yeah, I guess you are right. Sex first, food later.”
At the invisible mansion:
“Are you sure that we should do this?” A young female Nightstalker asked another girl.
“Yes, Marius can’t lead us into a new era. He has to.” She answered.
The females walked into the dark room, opened the lid at the machine in front of them, and looked inside.
The youngest of the two females gasped, as she saw his body.
“He looks so much like him!” She exclaimed, while rubbing her arms as the cold from the ice in the machine chilled her body.
“Yes, he should be, it’s his twin.”
