Chapter Chapter Eighteen
“EEEEKKK!!!” Amy shrilled at hearing the confirmation.
She was jumping up and down, while holding Terrence’ phone, which showed a picture of Alpha King Daniel. He was definitely the one, that I have met in the hallway, the one that took me for a drink and told me about my roots. The one, that accused me of being a reckless, uncontrollable monster.
The one…
“Alpha King, Alpha King!” Dakota chanted over and over again.
“Shut up! He is not going to be my mate!” I yelled back at her.
“Losing your pack, wouldn’t be an issue anymore though, if you become his Luna. You would be Queen, so still have every right to it.” Amy said.
“No.”
“But you could go everywhere, and do pretty much everything you want.” Amy tried again.
“No. And I can do whatever I want now too.”
“He is handsome.”
“Amy, please shut up.”
I tried walking away, out of my office, but Terrence grabbed my arm.
“What aren’t you telling us?”
“Nothing. I’m going for a run.” I replied to him.
I actually went for a run. Dropping my clothes at one of the close by trees, shifted, and ran into the summer sun. Dakota took over and ran for hours, while I laid in the back of her mind. She even caught a mountain lion, snapping its neck carefully, not to destroy the fur, and dragged it halfway home. There, one of my hunter wolves took it over, and dragged it all the way back.
I admired Dakota’s care for the mountain lion. She could have easily tore it to shreds and eaten her belly full, but she knew that the cat was useful for other purposes. As the fur is good enough to be sold, and the meat can be used tonight for dinner.
Dakota went into another direction, and when we approached a small lake, she just laid her head on a rock. She waited for me to come to the surface, to talk or to do anything at all.
“I’m sorry girl. It’s just that he indirectly called us an abomination. Because of the fact that we can turn into some creature together, a Lycan.” I said.
“He never called us a monster or a Lycan, he only showed us what our creature could be. You know that no one else we have met, can do what we can. It was bound to be recognized by anyone, anytime soon.” Dakota said.
“Yes, I guess that’s true. But he still lied about being the King, and he said he would protect his pack in case of danger. Are we dangerous?”
“No! Well, if we want to be, we could. But we are not uncontrollable. We can shift into a Lycan when we want. Not only when being angered.” She said.
I guess she is true about that. The first time we shifted into the Lycan, we were angry, and we were trying to kill that man. But we were still at our senses, I could still talk to Terrence, or every other person we’ve come across while being in that form.
I’m not an uncontrollable creature! I’m strong and have an amazing Alpha command! And my pack? I’ve earned every piece of it, rightfully. There is no urge for me to grow our pack any larger, as I don’t have the need to become the most powerful wolf on the planet. There is no one that I have to prove myself against. I’m solely proud of my pack as it is right now, and I will protect it with all of my strength. No matter what!
I had taken control over my wolf, and ran back to the tree, where my clothes were. There I shifted and clothed myself.
“Hi Terrence.” I said without looking behind.
“You ready to talk now?” He asked.
“Yes.” I sighed and walked back towards the cave. “He might be my mate, but he hurt me already.”
“What did he do.”
“Basically calling me a monster.” I said.
We were inside, walking to my office and Amy joined in as well. It was night now, and I started to explain everything that I have read and what Daniel had been telling me.
On that single page, that Daniel had showed me, there stood everything that was known about Lycans, but since no one has ever met, or documented anything about a Lycan that isn’t a rabid, uncontrollable creature, only little was known. Only the terrible, killing parts, were told. It was like one single person who experienced one Lycan’s wrath, had written what he saw and heard.
But there was no other point of view, no other person that could tell anything about Lycans. So, what if this single person, who wrote that cute little story, was a narrow-minded asshole, who didn’t care about the other side?
“Maybe we could ask my father about it? I once overheard him talking about Lycans, when I was hiding in my mother’s room.” Amy suddenly said.
“I’m sorry that I have ever lacked to ask Amy, but who is your father? Why should he know anything about Lycans” I said to her.
“He is the Beta of Crescent Moon Pack, in the southwest region of our continent. His name is Markus McEnroy.” She said.
My heart just stopped.
Is this why I can’t be mad at her? Is this why I feel this utter need, to keep her save and protected? It all made sense now! The moment I had seen her, and caught her scent, she felt so familiar to me. But I couldn’t really determine where it was from, as it had been a long time, since I had met with her father. Except for that one time, not long ago.
“This is just unreal.” I whispered.
“What is? What is wrong Alpha?” She asked.
Her father must have gotten another wife, since her scent is still not the same as I remembered his to be.
“But your name on your ID? It’s not McEnroy.” I said.
“No, when we got our new set of ID’s, when we started the pack, I figured that I would take my mother’s name instead. You know, because my father wouldn’t agree to let me come home, after being raped.” Amy said.
“That’s what we did too!” Dakota said in my mind, and she was right. I had taken upon the name of my mother too, as my father’s name isn’t worthy of us.
“What has her name got to do with anything?” Terrence asked, but I ignored him.
“Amy, your mother, is she your father’s true mate?” I asked her.
“Yes, he had a chosen mate before her, had a daughter, and found my mother several years later.”
“And your sister, who was killed because of having sex before marriage, was she from your father’s first mate?” I continued my questions.
“Yes… Why?” Amy asked, not knowing where this interrogation was going to.
I took a breath, waiting for myself to calm down, trying to find the right words, to say this.
“Amy, that sister, wasn’t killed.”
“What are you talking about? I have seen the blood, and smelled her scent myself! I was a little girl back then, but I’m sure of what I remember.” Amy said, slightly angry now.
Oh my Goddess, the moment he had killed my mother, he went to his other family, to show them that he killed her. But he lied to his other daughter, and told her that he had killed me too. It had to be like that, because afterwards, he had kept me in a small cottage, deep in the woods, to train me for four years.
I had never met Amy, as my father hadn’t told me that he had found his true mate. But I guess, that he had told his true family about me and my mother, as Amy’s stories told me that she knew my father had an adulterate daughter.
Amy had to be believing that I was dead, in order for her to not search for me. I guess, that he had killed my mother, because he had found his true mate, and couldn’t bear to take care of two wives. That’s why my old pack hadn’t forsaken their Beta! Because he had found his true mate!
“No, the smell was familiar, because it was my mother’s scent, mixed with that of our father. Amy, I’m your half-sister.” I said.
