Love's Tangled Web (Alex and Ellie)

Chapter Love Web 91

Chapter 91

Ellie tossed aside her blanket and got out of bed. Her eyes were red, and she spoke with a catch, "When I was little, you gave me a piece of candy. I could be happy for days."

"You spun me around in the yard and let me hide in your blanket whenever I felt homesick. I thought that was what it meant to care and happiness!" Ellie said.

Alex got up, threw the blanket over Ellie, and said, "If you felt happy, why did you leave the Warren family back then?"

Ellie gave Alex a hard shove. He didn't move an inch, but she stumbled back two steps. Tears of anger filled her eyes as she shouted, "Because you're a man who was already engaged, you have someone you need to protect!"

Ellic replied, "I'm not a child who can be comforted by just one piece of candy anymore. I'll find someone who truly cherishes me!"

Alex stared at Ellie, his frustration boiling over. "If you're so eager to cut ties with me, why did you return to the Warren family anyway?"

All the bottled-up frustration and grievances exploded at that moment. "If you hadn't pushed me into a corner because of Haley, I wouldn't have considered seeking your parents' protection and agreeing to this relationship. It's all your fault!" Ellic slowly crouched down, burying her head in her hands and sobbing uncontrollably.

Alex slowly squatted down beside Ellie, watching as she suddenly broke down. He just watched her cry, feeling like something was stuck in his chest -heavy, suffocating, and painful.

After an unknown amount of time, Alex finally spoke quietly, "As long as you follow what I say, no one will ever push you again, I promise."

Ellic looked at Alex with her tear-stained eyes and shook her head firmly. "You're lying!"

Alex said, "As long as you behave like you used to, I can make it happen!"

"You can't do it!" Ellie exclaimed, standing up abruptly, with Alex getting up as well. They stood by the bed. Ellie threw off the blanket with a mess of hair. Her eyes were red from crying, looking utterly distraught.

Ellie lifted her head, looked into Alex's eyes, and said with tears, "In your mind, my life is worth less than dirt. I don't even deserve respect and worse than Haley!"

Ellie said, "You made me watch you take Haley from my brother, and you gave me the snacks that Haley discarded!"

"You kicked me out of the car on a stormy night! In the cinema, you protected Haley and left, not caring about my safety! You knew I couldn't swim, yet you pushed me into the river to vent for Haley!"

"Do you know what Haley did to me in Ameria?" The thought of those unbearable six months brought Ellie to tears. "Haley hired thugs to beat me up in the street, almost ruining my face!"

Ellie said, "For half a year, I lived with a hat, sunglasses, and mask, only daring to remove the mask to eat in hidden corners while being pointed at and laughed at.

"And you never cared about me for even a moment, yet you force me to clear Haley's name!

"You look down on me and think I owe the Warren family, so you insult me and oppress me without any restraint, even going so far as to get physical with my dad!"

"Ellie!" Alex's eyes were bloodshot as he held back his emotions and called Ellie's name while moving closer. Ellie stood firm but then stepped back to avoid him. The room fell into a sudden silence.

Ellie said, "To you, I'm nothing more than a cheap weed, while Haley is your beloved rose. You cradle Haley in your hands, yet you push me into the mud!

"You're no longer the Alex who would protect me with his life! You're not important to me. You have no right to interfere with any of my decisions!" Ellie concluded, picking up the blanket from the floor and climbing into bed, wrapping herself tightly. Filie cried uncontrollably. Alex stood by the bed, his eyes reddened as he listened to Ellie's heart-wrenching sobs. After what felt like forever, the room finally fell silent.

Sunlight streamed through the gap in the curtains, casting a glow on Alex's tense back. He stood quietly by the bed, looking down at Ellie's sleeping

face.

Ellie had cried for so long that her eyes were painfully swollen, her hair messy, and her face pale, giving her a brokenness that words couldn't

describe in her disheveled state. Alex couldn't take his eyes off Ellie's face.

For the first time in days, Ellie spoke many words to Alex. Each word was an accusation full of grievance. Every sentence felt like a cold, hard line separating Alex from her.

When Ellie woke up again, the sun had already set outside. She changed her clothes, washed up, and went downstairs.

At the bottom of the stairs on the first floor, she ran into Alex. Their eyes met, and without a word, Alex handed her a glass of milk.

Ellic took it, her voice hoarse as she said, "I'm hungry." Ellie realized she had to eat something to have the energy and could figure out the way to leave.

"Wait here, I'll make you some pasta," Alex said, surprised that Ellie was still willing to talk to him after last night. He hurried to the kitchen to prepare something for Ellie to eat.

Ellie sat quietly in the dining room, watching Alex clumsily cook pasta for her. It was the first time Alex personally made her a meal. In the past, this would have thrilled her, but now all she felt was a sense of irony.

After eating, Ellie went out to get fresh air on the island. Alex handed her an apple. As Ellie nibbled on it, she walked ahead with Alex carefully following behind. They didn't say much; occasionally, Ellie would ask a question, and Alex would softly respond. Facing the ocean, Ellie sat on a rock to rest. Seeing Alex seated behind her, Ellie scooted over and said, "Come sit in front of me. I'm scared when you're behind me."

When Alex frowned, Ellie explained, "I'm worried you'll push me into the ocean." Alex masked the pain in his eyes and sat down calmly to Ellie's front left.

Ellie discreetly stared at the pocket of Alex's suit pants. She just saw him finish a call and put his phone back in his pocket.

Now was the perfect opportunity. Ellie had to get the phone from Alex's pocket, contact the outside world, and find a way to escape.

"Here." Ellie handed Alex the apple she had half-eaten. Alex turned, meeting Ellie's gaze, his Adam's apple moving up and down involuntarily.

Ellie tried to lighten the mood casually. "I was upset yesterday, so I spoke a bit harshly." Seeing Alex's eyes filled with emotion, Ellie rarely smiled at him, "We grew up together, and you were always so good to me. You'll always be my Alex." "Ellie!" Alex held an apple in one hand and grabbed Ellie's hand with the other, the emotions in his eyes almost overflowing.

Ellie gently pulled her hand back without anyone noticing. "Are there any more fun places around here?"

Alex enthusiastically pointed towards the sea while munching on the half-eaten apple Ellie had given him and said, "The scenery on this island is pretty beautiful."

Ellie secretly hid her hand behind her back, clutching a convenient rock. She thought, 'It's indeed beautiful!

Ellie took a deep breath and suddenly swung the rock in her hand towards the back of Alex's head. With a dull thud, Alex, with an apple in his mouth, turned around.

Ellie was in a panic, facing Alex's terrifying glare that seemed like it could almost cut her down. She was stunned and thought, 'He's not knocked out Secretly tightening her grip on the rock in her hand, Ellie swung it at Alex's head again.
