Chapter 62
Chapter 62
“Yes, a colleague found him dead two hours ago. His body has been placed in the forensic identification center, and the forensic doctor is already doing the tests. Come with me!”
Jayden led the way. Caroline pushed Quintin, followed by Flynn and the others going to the forensic center.
The body of Peter was lying on the autopsy bed covered in white sheets at the identification center.
After they went in, Jayden lifted the bedsheet and showed them. Caroline glanced at the corpse and asked, “How did he die?”
“He was poisoned.”
Jayden handed her the autopsy report and said, “A neurotoxin called Tabun was detected in the victim’s body.”
Caroline read that the report explained the chemical name of Tabun was ethyl dimethyl cyano phosphonate, a highly toxic
substance.
It is clear and colorless, with a slight taste of bitter almonds.
The toxin is soluble in water and is often used as a chemical weapon in times of war to contaminate water sources.
“So Peter died because he drank the water containing Tabun toxin?” Caroline asked.
Jayden nodded and said. “Yes. It might indeed be caused by drinking water.”
Quintin couldn’t see anything but heard them talking. Therefore, he spoke up.
“Peter died in your detention center. So who tampered with his drinking water? Was he the only one who died? Did anyone else get poisoned?”
“Quintin is asking the same questions we are investigating. Currently, there is no one else poisoned but Peter.”
After the incident. Jayden and his men contacted the Ziegler family directly, which was mainly to deal with the case. Peter had been poisoned in the detention center. If they couldn’t handle it well, it would absolutely implicate their police
station.
“Did Peter confess anything during the few days he was detained?” Quintin asked.
“No, he wouldn’t say anything. He admitted that he had done it as soon as he was arraigned.”
Quintin did not ask any further questions. Caroline said, “Captain Xydias, please investigate quickly and find out who did it.”
“We will. We’ll do our best to investigate it,” said Jayden.
Everything that needed to be said had been said, and the situation was clear. Caroline and Quintin returned to the Ziegler residence.
On the way back, Caroline sat on the sofa in the back of the RV and talked to Quintin about the case. “It seems that the real culprits behind the scenes want to silence Peter, afraid Peter would reveal their secret.”
“Yes. Being able to do something under the eyes of the police means that the person has some tricks up his sleeve.” Quintin had informed another of his subordinates to investigate secretly. He believed it would not take long for the results.
to be out.
“Could the person be your enemy? Or did you offend someone?” Caroline asked.
“If that’s the case, there are a lot of people who want me dead.”
Quintin felt that the real culprits behind the scenes would find another opportunity to attack again. As the saying goes, even the most cunning fox would show its tail sometimes. Quintin did not believe that the other party would not reveal any clues.
“Captain Xydías has enough on his plate. Now there’s such a case. I don’t know when they’ll be able to find out,” Caroline said emotionally.
To Quintin, her words meant something else.
“It is Jayden’s job. You don’t have to worry about him. He’s married and got kids. Don’t go hitting on him and ruin his family!”
“Is that the kind of woman you think I am?” Caroline retorted.
“Isn’t it so? You always run around, looking for this or that. How are you afraid of the others talking about you if you dare to do it?”
Quintin didn’t even know how annoying he sounded when he said that!
Caroline took a deep breath and said coldly, “I think you’re blind not only in your eyes but also in your heart. Don’t even think about recovering in this lifetime!”
Chapter 62
“Hey. Why are you so mean?”
Quintin had kindly advised her to be kind, but she was vengeful and cursed him never to recover in his life. Was she malicious or not?
Just as the two of them were bickering, Flynn hurriedly turned the steering wheel to avoid a car, causing Quintin to lose his balance and fall toward Caroline.
By the time the car had leveled out, Quintin had pinned Caroline down on the sofa, and his hand was, to his horror, in the wrong place.
That touch was so familiar as if it had an indescribable magic that attracted him.
Strange! That feeling was familiar.
That was what it felt like when he was with Macy that night.
Caroline’s expression darkened. A storm was brewing. She stared at the man’s forehead and asked, “Is it good to take advantage of me?”
Quintin quickly retracted his hand and got off her body. He sat up straight and put on a cold expression.
“I don’t know what you’re talking about. I don’t like to take advantage of someone.”
“Really? But weren’t you enjoying it just now?”
“Am I?”
Quintin’s handsome face turned slightly red, and he felt a little guilty.
“Are you still denying it? Tell me honestly. Can your eyes see or not?”
Caroline felt like the guy did it on purpose. Did he take advantage of a woman because he was blind?
Caroline had endured it and did not say anything last time. Then he did it again. Was it too much this time?
“I can’t see! The car was unstable just then, so I wasn’t careful to bump into you.”
“You weren’t careful? Who would believe that? You touched me for more than three seconds just then. How do you explain that?”
“I said I didn’t mean to!”
For the sake of his face. Quintin did not hesitate to lie. “I can swear to God that I really don’t have any thoughts about you. 1 wouldn’t be interested in you even if you let me touch
you naked.”
“Is that so?”
“You must remember what you said today,” said Caroline, crossing her arms and curling her lips. “Don’t slap yourself in the face later.”
“Absolutely not!”
Quintin was confident in his relationship with women. He had been clean and honest and didn’t even have a rumored girlfriend. So he couldn’t have fallen for Caroline.
“I want to go to Peter’s place and see if I can find anything,” Caroline said after getting off the car when they returned to the Ziegler residence. “Let Flynn take you home first.”
If it was not for the problem with her mother’s ashes, Caroline might have launched an investigation long ago.
“I want to go too!”
After all, it was concerned with his life. Quintin also wanted to participate.
Hence, Caroline pushed Quintin to Peter’s residence, which had been mostly cleared out since Peter was taken away.
Now the room was empty except for a few pictures on the wall.
Caroline looked at it and said, “Peter’s room has been disposed of. No quilts are on the bed, and the cabinets are empty.” “Look harder!” Quintin said.
Caroline could only search within the limited range. She looked at the walls and listened to the sounds of a few walls. As Caroline touched a landscape painting on the wall, something suddenly fell out of it.
The item fell out quickly and into a crack in the corner in the blink of an eye. Caroline moved the table away and found it. “What did you find Quintin asked.
Caroline picked up the item and looked at it in reverse. It was a photo. To her surprise, the woman in the photo was Carmen “I found a picture, and there was a woman in the picture. Guess who the woman is?”
“Who?”
