Chapter 1
Shattered Vows, Shining Comeback
Chapter 1 A Near Death Experience
“At 12:30 am capital time, a plane flying to Belmont City crashed while landing. The death toll has risen to 136 people. So far, there are only three known survivors.”
Live updates of the plane crash were being given on the TV screen in the hospital at that moment. It snapped Gwen Lawson out of her trance.
She was one of the three survivors who survived the plane crash. Currently, she was lying on the sick bed in the ICU ward with her legs wrapped in bandages. Her entire body was riddled with injuries as well.
The phone that she was clutching tightly in her hand kept replaying the same automated message.
“The number you have called is unreachable. Please try again later.”
Since the crash, Gwen’s legal husband, Jake Hall, hadn’t bothered answering any of her calls.
This tragic crash had shocked the entire nation, so Gwen refused to believe that Jake didn’t know about the crash.
She still remembered the sight of corpses being strewn everywhere at the scene of the crash. The fear invoked by the near death accident had her fighting for her life–she couldn’t even breathe out of pure terror.
But the man she had been married to for three years couldn’t even be bothered to pick up her calls when she needed him the most. Gwen was extremely disappointed, to say the least.
A long while later, her phone rang abruptly, snapping her out of her trance. When she looked at the caller ID, the sparkle in her eyes gradually dimmed when she saw the name “Mrs. Hall Senior“.
“Hello?” Gwen answered the call in a raspy voice.
She heard an elderly voice that was laced with concern. “Gwen, you scared the living daylights out of me! Are you okay? Is Jake keeping you company?”
It was Jake’s grandmother, Agnes Cladwell. She was also the only one in the entire Hall family who cared about Gwen.
“He…”
Agnes picked up on Gwen’s silence acutely. “That brat! You’re his secretary and his wife! The only reason why you’ have to fly out of the country is so that you can deal with work on his behalf! To think that he chose to disappear when you got involved in a crash!
“Just you wait, Gwen! I won’t let him off the hook this time!”
Then, Agnes continued, “Which hospital are you in right now? I’ll have the butler pick you up right now!”
The phone call ended a moment after Gwen told Agnes the address. She lowered her head before unplugging the IV drip out of her arm. Then, she got out of bed while enduring her pain.
“What are you doing? Your legs have yet to recover! You need to recuperate in bed!”
The nurse, who had come to check on Gwen, didn’t stop her from leaving despite her words.
Please grab two crutches for me. I want to be discharged.”
Gwen’s gaze was determined and filled with resolve. It was better for her to recuperate in Hall Manor than the hospital.
Besides, she was the secretary of Hall Group’s CEO. She needed to fly to Dornwick as the representative of Hall Group because she had to oversee the setup and verify the list of attendees of an upcoming medical expo. After that, she needed to write up everything into a report and have it submitted to Hall Group immediately.
Then again, the most important thing for Gwen to do right was to find out where Jake was and what the hell he was

doing right now.
Seeing as that she couldn’t convince Gwen to stay in the hospital, the nurse brought her two crutches as requested. Gwen left the ICU ward right away, limping toward the payment counter along the wall.
But when she reached the lobby, she noticed a familiar license plate belonging to a luxury car through the floor–to- ceiling windows in the lobby. There were even a few other luxury cars trailing behind it. These cars belonged to Hall Group.
A few people got out of the cars. The man in the middle of the small group was clad in a black suit while carrying a woman bridal style. One could tell that he cherished the woman greatly, for his suit jacket could be seen draped over her exposed legs.
The man could be seen rushing into the hospital lobby hurriedly. He didn’t even notice Gwen.
She remained rooted to the spot, though there was some distance between her and the man. Just like that, she witnessed him whisking the woman into a specialist’s treatment room.
Gwen and that man had been married for three years, yet she never knew he had such a tender and loving side to him. Who on earth was that woman?
It didn’t matter who that woman was though. Indescribable pain began spreading from Gwen’s chest all the way to the rest of her body. It hurt so much that she could barely breathe at this point.
A short while later, a few nurses could be seen walking from the other end of the corridor. When they walked past Gwen, she could catch wisps of their hushed conversation.
“Oh my god! That man from earlier is Jake Hall, the heir of Hall Group news!
Who often shows up on finance reports and
“He’s so macho! I can’t believe we get to see him at the hospital! He even accompanied his girlfriend to her prenatal check–up!”
“A prenatal check–up? Are you sure about that?”
“Of course! The medical report did state that the fetus is already eight weeks old. His girlfriend suffered from bleeding because of the fetal instability. That’s why Mr. Hall carried her into the hospital earlier.”
Eight weeks? That meant it was conceived two months ago…
