Chapter 583 She Seems to Be Pregnant
Seth stayed at Clarissa's for a few days before returning to Lotharia. Meanwhile, Clarissa took Mildred out every day to relax.
"Mom, this is Genovia. You've been here before," Clarissa said. "You might not recognize it because there's been lots of changes here, though."
Mildred only quietly looked around, not saying much. Even at home, she was also deathly silent.
Now that Mildred was in Merania, Clarissa had crossed off a huge to-do on her list. However, she was devastated to see how blank Mildred was all the time.
Damien still arranged for the next meeting at New East Corporation to fall on a Saturday.
Clarissa knew just what Damien was thinking. Usually, Chanel would be teaching on weekdays and could only come by on weekends to make things difficult for Clarissa. As usual, Clarissa tried to ask Director Jones for leave.
Clarissa: [Director Jones, I'm not feeling too well recently. I need a day off.]
Director Jones: [I've talked to Mr. Lawrence. He says there are only a few more meetings regarding Ashland. He wants you to persist for a bit longer.]
Well then, she would persist!
She would persist in acting out a show for him.
Clarissa wore flats as usual, and went to the conference room.
Damien was sitting at the head of the table.
During the meeting, Clarissa pretended as if she was really out of it. As she watched the presentation, she rested her chin on her hand. If it wasn't necessary for her to speak, she kept quiet. Up until Damien's phone rang.
"Go home for lunch? Sure. The meeting will be over soon." His voice was unbearably soft.
Clarissa could easily guess who had called Damien.
As Lucas was explaining some new details, Clarissa couldn't help but feel disgusted. She ran out while covering her mouth.
Suddenly, everyone in the conference room grew silent.
Damien's expression turned unsightly almost immediately.
Clarissa seemed to be pregnant!
A long time after Clarissa ran out, Director Jones sent Damien a Whatsapp message.
Director Jones: [Mr. Lawrence, Clarissa says she's not feeling well. She's gone home to rest. She asked me to hold on to her things for her, and she'll get them during the next meeting.] Damien: [How long has she been like this?]
As Damien asked this, his eyebrows furrowed.
Director Jones: [Ever since the first meeting.]
Damien gritted his teeth hard.
The meeting ended after two more hours. During that time, Ray kept an eye on Damien's expression.
When everyone else had left, Ray called out inquisitively, "Damien."
"What is it?" Damien's expression was still stormy.
"Clarissa seems to be pregnant. Do you think so?"
Damien frowned even harder. He didn't say a word.
"Pack up her things," Damien said to Director Jones.
Director Jones had already put all of Clarissa's things away. He handed them to Damien; laptop, notebook, pen, and everything else.
Damien grabbed everything and went downstairs. After getting into the car, he sped all the way to Clarissa's house.
After the meeting, Clarissa passed by the main hall of the university. There was a famous film critic present, here to do a talk at the university.
After some thought, she decided to bring Mildred to watch. After all, Mildred used to be pretty famous.
The two of them sat in the back row.
The students at the university were all younger than Clarissa. When Mildred had been famous, the students probably hadn't even been born yet. Information technology wasn't as advanced back then, so most of them didn't know who Mildred was.
The two of them watched in silence.
The expert was talking about the advancement of modern film. Coincidentally, the film Iris and Charles Griffin had been in, "Green Waters," was also mentioned. The expert said that this film combined both suspense and romance genres and was an exceptional film.
As such, the big screen showed a huge poster of Iris and Charles.
