Chapter A Gamble For Two 30
Chapter 30
She held her belly on purpose. "Didn't you go abroad? Why did you come back?"
Louis was visibly emotional, and Angelina instinctively stepped back.
"I thought you and Chester would separate."
"I did think about it at first," she replied.
"Angie, Chester deserves everything that has happened to him. You don't have to pity him. Why be loyal to someone like him? He's been targeting you all along. You did that in the past because he forced you, no?"
Louis approached her and towered over her, staring at her intently. His eyes were bloodshot. "To protect his reputation, he lied and claimed you drugged him to lock him down. He's the kind of person who always waits for others to make the first move. He's a bastard." Angelina was at a loss for words. In Louis' mind, was the female side character really that remarkable?
"Louis, I was the one who initiated that. It had nothing to do with him, and I don't want anything now. Once the baby is born-"
"Get real. This isn't the life you should be living. You have other choices," Louis cut her off.
Angelina froze for a moment.
Louis continued, "I know what you need. Everything you have now isn't enough for you. I understand you.
He looked into her eyes, where faint tears glistened. "I don't regret breaking ties with Chester. I've never regretted anything I've done. Angie, I'm just waiting for you to say it.
"I can't give you much, but I can give you my all. If Chester dares to pressure you, I'll take him down. Come abroad with me. Once the baby is born, give it my surname. I'll work hard to make
money."
Louis would never forget that in his otherwise inferior life, Angelina had been the only person who treated him as an equal.
In middle school, he couldn't measure up to others. He was the shortest member of the basketball team, and he was unremarkable in every way. While everyone else played together happily, no one noticed him in the corner.
But Angelina stayed with him. "You'll grow taller, Look at you. You may not be tall yet, but you already have muscles, and you can jump higher than all of them. Also, your hands are so big! You can hold the ball with one hand. I saw you jump and shoot last time. You have a cool form. From then on, Louls had his eyes on her-from middle school all the way to college.
He knew Angelina was someone Chester's mother had brought back from the mountains, with a family background just as poor as his. That only made Louis feel even more protective of her.
What Louis didn't know was that the female side character had once gone out of her way to investigate everyone around Chester. Only those with status and position were worth currying favor with in her eyes.
Louis was the only one she couldn't find any information about no matter how much she asked
She boldly speculated that the seemingly unremarkable Louis might be a hidden big shot among the group, someone whose true identity couldn't be uncovered by anyone she questioned.
She then started cozying up to him and treating him well. When the rest played basketball, she would chat with Louis.
One day, she discovered that Louis didn't have an impressive background at all. He was just a
poor
kid who lived in a narrow alleyway.
From that day on, she stopped paying any attention to Louis, feeling that even sparing him a glance was a waste of time.
But Louis had already fallen for her.
Now, facing the deeply affectionate Louis standing in front of her, Angelina felt at a loss as she took a step back.
"Have you no shame? Do you actually want to be a stepdad? Most men are afraid of being cheated on, but here you are, practically asking for it."
"As long a as it's with you, I don't care, Angie. Do you know how happy I was the day Chester went bankrupt? I couldn't wait to rush back to your side. What are you thinking, staying with him? What do you see in him?" Of course,
it was Chester's money. The downfall of a big shot was only temporary.
Angelina took a deep breath. "Louis, you should leave. Let's not meet again in the future."
"I just can't stand by and watch you suffer with him. You don't even want the money I offered. Give me a chance to treat you well, Angie."
Angelina pinched his arm hard and quickly stepped back. "I'm going back home, Louis. Don't look for me again. I came down to make things clear-I'll always stay by Chester's side, through thick and thin. There's absolutely no possibility for us." "What's so great about him?"
"I can't pinpoint it. But he's the only one in my heart. There's no room for anyone else."
