Chapter 7
I lay on my bed, staring at the ceiling thinking about earlier. Dinner was great, our discussion wasn’t so bad. It was what I expected. A curfew, bed after sunset, and chores here at the house. She’s looking into getting me in a school this fall, with no transcripts it may be difficult. Once school starts, I’ll only be able to work after school. I drift off to sleep dreading the nightmare that always come.
When I’m not working, I go to the park. It has a playground, basketball court, skateboard ramps, a few pavilions, a baseball field, public pool, soccer field, and lockers. There is food carts, too. Hot dog stands, ice cream, and slushies. A small diner is across the street. Picnic tables are scattered through the park.
The first time I go, I just walk around. It was full of human kids. I want to make some friends before school starts. Not to mention werewolves don’t do well alone. So I’m on the hunt.
I couldn’t help but wonder if there are any other wolves under cover among them. I would be able to smell them, and them me. A chill went down my back, I remember those rogues are still out there somewhere.
I’m wearing new black sneakers, blue jeans, and a team Tennessee t-shirt Kim got me. My hair is pulled back into a low ponytail.
I’m nervous, I tighten my grip on my bag and start walking down the sidewalk. I bite my bottom lip. I try not to look at anyone in particular. I can tell through my sensitive hearing that girls are talking about me. I don’t care, they’ll find out soon enough.
Walking through the soccer field, I overhear someone saying something about just getting their first period yesterday. Whatever that is. Another group of girls whining over a boy.
A group of guys are playing basketball at the court.
Then a guy’s voice, “She’s cute.”
Who me? Surly not...
As I pass through the playground, I see three finely groomed females sitting on top of the monkey bars whispering in each other’s ear. They are busy talking about makeup and outfits. One makes eye contact with me and curls a lip in disdain. The smell heavy of cheap perfume. No not them.
Two females huddle over by the water fountain talking quickly about a movie sitting on the swings. I approach them smoothly. I clear my throat and smile. They look at me, then smile.
“Hello, I’m new in town. My name is Jewel, may I join you?” I say shyly. I chew on my inner cheek, nervously.
“Sure! My name is Skyla, but you can call me Sky. This is June.”
Sky is an average looking female. Tall and thin frame. Her brown curly hair was a bit untamed but looked clean. She had freckles and metal glued to her teeth. Hazel eyes behind thick glasses. She wears khakis and a purple t shirt with hearts all over it.
June has straight black hair pulled back into a braid. She had light brown eyes, thin lips. Her build is on the husky side. Her smile is warm, with a few crooked teeth. She’s wearing a long navy-blue skirt, sleeveless light blue blouse and a quarter sleeve black jacket.
I learn that June likes to read all kinds of books online, playing video games and watch movies. Sky was more into art, picked up sewing. I saw right away I didn’t fit in with these females. I need to find some that like sports and be outdoors.
I told them my interests, they said that was neat. I ask them if there were any others that were interested in that stuff. They said they knew a few, they don’t appear to run in the same circle.
It’s now lunch time. “I’ll go put my stuff in a locker and meet you at the diner.” I say cheerfully.
“Sure, see you there!” Sky and June say in sync.
I find an empty locker and throw my bag in after I take out the pad lock. I shut the door and lock it. I turn around and almost run into a male, but stop in time. We make eye contact and he smiles. I couldn’t help but notice how healthy and nicely groomed this male is, he smells good too. Still human, but still nice.
This male has blue crystal eyes, blonde hair cut short on the sides, the top about 2-3 inches long. A strong built frame wearing blue jeans and black t shirt.
He looks down to my shoes all the way up to my sapphire eyes. It kind of made me uneasy. I have no interest in human males. Quite frankly, he’s barking up the wrong tree. However, I would be interested in a friendship. Maybe see what he’s into.
