Chapter 36
With a soft sound, the expensive postage stamp was torn in half, and then folded, torn again, torn into pieces, and thrown into the coffee cup in front of him.
Everyone, including Stephen, was stunned by Robert’s action, but they immediately understood what it meant. A smile appeared on Stephen’s face.
At Kendrick’s table, a man in his fifties clapped his hands silently and whispered, “This young man is awesome.”
Kendrick and Marilyn hadn’t realized what the middle–aged man meant.
“Mr. Hoffman already possesses one of the postage stamps and desires to obtain the remaining one. However, postage stamps are not luxury items but collectibles, and their value lies in their uniqueness. Mr. Hoffman wants to have the complete set, but the person in possession of the postage stamp tore it up, making the one in his possession the only remaining one, and even more valuable than having two postage stamps together. Regardless of what Mr. Hoffman may say, he is obligated to accept this gift, as the favor has been done and must be repaid.”
Marilyn and Kendrick, who were confused about Robert’s behavior, suddenly understood what he meant.
Kendrick’s gloomy face immediately became gloomier.
He had originally intended to embarrass Robert, but he did not expect that Robert would actually perform well in such a situation!
Looking at the approving eyes of the elders around him, he knew how much Robert was recognized by them!
Marilyn suddenly smiled. Her smile was like a blooming flower. Marilyn glanced at Robert, only to see that Robert was also looking at her.
Marilyn found that Robert had become different. He seemed to be a different person.
Robert’s s eyes were filled with resoluteness. He seemed to be proving something.
The attitudes of the people around Robert have been quite varied. Initially, some thought that he was well–prepared and that his performance was natural. However, the scene that just played out was definitely not pre–arranged.
They saw that both Connor and Naomi looked stunned. The young man’s adaptability was really amazing!
Looking at Robert, the difference between him and their own juniors became apparent.
What was wrong with climbing the social ladder?
A capable man was not climbing the social ladder but a man who wished to reach greater heights. That was normal! Only those incapable and waiting to die would be viewed as people climbing the social ladder.
It was also a good thing for the Labelle family that a young man with such abilities went to them.
Stephen looked at the fragments of the postage stamp that had been torn into pieces and soaked by coffee and smiled slightly. “Thank you all for coming today. You are too kind. Come and eat!”
Stephen’s words put an end to that matter, and everyone picked up their glasses.
Seeing everyone raise their glasses, Stephen whispered, “This young man is good. Call him to my study later. If he is a talent whom I can shape, let him follow me.”
Stephen’s grandson widened his eyes when he heard this. There was a trace of dissatisfaction in his eyes, but he dared not say anything because Stephen was beside him. He could only nod and glare at Robert subtly with his eyes as if he was looking at his enemy.
During the meal, Kendrick felt particularly frustrated. While at the table where Robert was sitting, many people went over and struck up conversations with him.
Someone even toasted Connor and praised him for his good taste. Connor glanced at Robert. Seeing that Robert didn’t take the initiative to explain, Connor didn’t say too much. He accepted their toasts and appeared delighted.
Looking at the scene at that table, Marilyn’s big bright eyes were full of envy. She did not envy others but only envied Naomi. She could get the support of her family and be with Robert.
After the luncheon, Robert walked into the Hollman manor to get some air.
“Robert, right?” A cold voice sounded behind Robert.
Robert looked back and found that it was a middle–aged man. Robert recognized him. At the luncheon earlier on, that man was sitting next to Stephen. He was a direct relative of Stephen. Many people had toasted him before. He should have a high
status.
Robert nodded.
The middle–aged man from the Hoffman family looked at Robert with dissatisfaction and said, “Ha, you’re still young, yet

you act so arrogantly. Didn’t Naomi tell you that you should restrain your so–called pride in the Hoffman family?“
