Legacy of Darkness

Chapter The Man With The Revolver

The city of Inchaya, over a decade ago...

The streets were as busy as every, as the markets roared with traders and customers alike. On one of the backstreets, a homeless young girl was eating some scraps from one of the market stalls.

"Helena!" A young boys voice called out, the girl looked in the direction it came from.

"Wesley, over here!" Helena smiled. Wesley came running over. "I got some scraps from one of the stall keepers" She explained.

"Mr Garren?" Wesley asked.

"Yeah, that's the one" Helena nodded as she bit into a chicken leg.

"He's the best, he's always looked out for us" Wesley smiled.

"Yeah!" Helena cheered as she handed Wesley some scraps. Wesley smiled and began eating, the two chatted for a couple of hours, until the skies began to darken, and the markets got busier. Wesley nodded off and rested his head on Helena's shoulder.

Helena smiled and rested her head on his. Helena had always felt like Wesley's bigger sister. Though at times she felt more like his brother, fighting fights for him with the other children. Thanks to Mr Garren, the children who lived on the streets of the city never wanted for much. Helena drifted off to sleep too.

When she awoke, there was the sound of screaming and running from the market street, Wesley had awakened too, to see people running away from the market street, until it fell silent.

"What happened?!" Wesley whispered.

"I don't know" Helena replied, as she tip toed to the end of the street, when she peaked out, she gasped. Mr Garren had been murdered, and there were two armed thugs, wearing smart suits.

"This is the guy that the boss wanted dead, right?" One of the asked. They were both wearing sunglasses, despite it being midnight.

"This is him for sure, check the stall, see if you can't grab anything to pay off his debts to Mr Fyre" The other nodded.

"Hey!" Wesley shouted, Helena's eyes darted to the middle of the street, where Wesley was now stood. "Leave him alone!" He yelled.

"Haha, go away kid" One of the men laughed. Wesley grunted and picked up a sword from a nearby stall and charged at the men. They burst out laughing. As he neared, one pulled out a revolver and shot Wesley dead.

The gunshot echoed for streets around. Followed by a hollow silence.

"WESLEY!" Helena screamed as she ran over to him.

"Another brat?" The man with the revolver sighed. He span the cylinder and took aim, but as Helena turned to face him he stepped back.

"She's gifted?!" He shivered.

Helena's eyes glowed a deep red as she picked up the sword and ran toward the two men, the man with the revolver shot as fast as he could, but Helena dodged the bullets. She stabbed the other man through the neck with the sword, then jumped up onto a nearby roof.

The Man with the revolver looked around panicking. Helena had disappeared from sight. The man went to run, but a sword shot through the back of his knee and he fell to the floor in pain.

He rolled onto his back and looked up to see the young girl with messy hair. Helena, her eyes had returned to normal.

"Who is Mr Fyre?" She asked.

"...How do you know Mr Fyre?" The man with the revolver asked.

"I don't, tell me who he is" Helena seethed with hatred.

"He's in Raryst, at Pyre Academy. Somewhere where a street rat like you could never dream of going" The Man with the Revolver laughed.

"Watch me" Helena smirked, as she knelt on the man's chest and slit his throat. She stood up and look to the sky. She would one day go to Pyre. She would have revenge.

Years went by, and seasons changed, the markets went back to normal quickly enough, and not much about the street changed. In modern day, the same person stood on that spot and looked down.

"Told you to watch me" Wes whispered to himself, as he placed a rose, for Wesley, his old childhood friend. Wes sighed to himself, he never managed to get revenge for his old friend like he had sworn.

The man that had ordered Mr Garren's death was Bryan Fyre, that had been the secondary reason why Wes had hated Anya when they had first met. But now, in modern day, Anya stood watching Wes.

"Who was your friend?" Anya asked.

"Wesley, his name was Wesley" Wes sighed.

"So that's why you chose Weslye as your name?" Anya asked, Wes nodded.

"In memory of him..." Wes sighed. "He was killed by your father's henchmen" He added.

"My fathers... henchmen?" Anya asked. Wes turned to Anya and nodded.

"That's part of the reason why I... why I hated you" Wes frowned.

"I'm sorry" Anya frowned.

"No, don't be. You are not your father, his sins are not yours" Wes smiled, as he grabbed Anya's hand. "I brought you here today to confess this, so that it wouldn't get between us" Wes explained.

Anya smiled and hugged Wes, and Wes hugged her back.

"I don't blame you for wanting revenge. My father, he's not who I thought he was, growing up" Anya sighed. "If it came to it, I'd chose you over him, any day" She smiled. The two continued hugging, as the crowd of the markets hummed away.
