Chapter League 469
Chapter 469
The wind swept across the deck, carrying a sense of desolation.
After Millie spat out several mouthfuls of seawater, she opened her eyes to find a crowd of unfamiliar faces. Some stared at her th worry, while others looked on with interest.
She turned her head slightly and saw Sean kneeling on one knee, his brow furrowed, water dripping from his hair. When she looked up, she met
Marvin’s gaze.
He was both anxious and excited. “Boss! Boss, are you alright?”
Sean lifted his head upon hearing that.
Millie coughed and instinctively reached out to grab Marvin’s shirt. With bloodshot eyes, he snapped, “And you kept insisting I didn’t need to come along!”
If he hadn’t been so determined to follow her, did it mean he would never see her again? Millie was such a good boss and the backbone of M Base. What would they do without her?
“Now look what happened to you!” Marvin kept scolding her.
Beside them, Sean was stunned. He couldn’t help but wonder about the relationship between Millie and this man.
Millie held onto Marvin’s sleeve as he helped her to her feet. She was extremely weak, her face pale and devoid of color.
The water in October was bone–chillingly cold, but what hurt Millie the most was seeing Winston save Joanna. Once again, he had forsaken her.
Marvin held Millie close, his heart aching for her. His voice trembled as he chided, “Look at what you’ve done to yourself for a man!”
It was clear that he was exasperated.
Millie slowly closed her eyes as a tingling pain settled in her heart. She believed she had disappointed those who loved her deeply and felt a deep sense of guilt.

As she buried her face in Marvin’s arms, she sobbed silently. Meanwhile, the passengers on the cruise ship looked at each other with grave expressions.
In no time, Marvin escorted Millie away,
When another boat arrived, Eli quickly took Winston away as well.
On the deck, Joanna coughed up some water. By the time Jeremy arrived, people were already criticizing her.
“It’s all because she chose to be a mistress! How infuriating!”
“And what about Winston? Didn’t he choose Joanna over Millie earlier? Cheating involves both parties, so they both deserve to be blamed!”
Joanna gripped the deck tightly, her shoulders shaking as she tried to speak. Through her blurred vision, she saw Jeremy approaching. However, she couldn’t utter a single word.
She had failed. Her attempt to eliminate Millie was clearly unsuccessful.
Joanna closed her eyes, and the harsh criticism from the onlookers echoed in her ears. “She had it all as the Lowells‘ daughter, yet she chose to be a mistress!”
Soon after, she lost consciousness again.
“At Yerwick’s cruise party yesterday, Joanna Lowell and Millie Caldwell fell overboard, putting Winston Greer in a difficult position.”
The smell of disinfectant filled the ward. Millie calmly lay in bed as the television on the wall showed the news.
A video of Winston diving into the sea appeared on the screen, while the people on board shouted, “Millie’s about to go under! Save her!”
Yet, after hesitating for a long while, Winston swam toward Joanna.
Millie remained silent. Suddenly, someone turned off the television. When she looked up, she saw Julia standing by the bed, her expression cold and
somber.

Millie pressed her lips together, smiled at Julia, and greeted, “Mom.”
“Stop calling me that!” Julia snapped. “I told you to go to the party to meet new people. But look at the trouble you’ve gotten yourself into!”
Feeling ashamed, Millie turned away. She couldn’t bring herself to meet
Julia’s gaze.
Despite her scoldings, Julia felt sorry for her daughter. She held Millie close, and they fell silent.
After a while, Julia asked softly, “You must have been terrified, weren’t you, Mills?”
Millie lowered her gaze and instinctively tightened her embrace.
Julia’s voice choked with sobs, unable to say more than a few words. She then added, “I know how afraid you are of water. And dealing with a sea like that is something you can’t manage.”
