Just a Wolf

Chapter Morning

Dominic

The entire night has gone by, far too quickly. We spent the entire time on her bed, fully clothed, on top of the covers, holding each other. There was the one embarrassing wardrobe malfunction when she saw my dick trying to escape from my pants, but she just asked me to explain what was happening, and seemed to understand what I meant. She obviously has no sexual experience at all, but then neither do I. We’ll figure it out together. Despite how painfully horny I have been all night, I also feel content to be patient. I think taking it slow is going to make everything that much sweeter.

Eventually we fell asleep, and I don’t think I have ever slept better, with her lying against my chest, my arm around her.

Who could have predicted that the first time I spent the night with a girl, it would be so chaste? I mean, there was a ton of necking, we were frantically eating each other’s faces half the night. But that was it. She told me that she’s never had a boyfriend, and I have never had a true girlfriend, and neither of us have much knowledge in this area. But it doesn’t matter. There is no need to rush things. As long as I am with her, I don’t feel like it matters whether we are just kissing, or moving on. My wolf wants to move things along, but I want to be patient, and wait for her to be ready. I am completely content with this. My wolf understands. My dick doesn’t, but he doesn’t get a vote.

Being with her makes me complete. It is like I have lived my entire life not realizing that half of my body was missing, and suddenly the two pieces have come together and I am finally whole. I was half a person before, I know now, living half a life. As of today, our true lives can begin.

She has a little bathroom here in her room, which we take turns using when we see that the sun is coming up, the light starting to shine in through the tiny sliver of window at the top of her wall. She’s in the basement, so she doesn’t have a full window.

“It’s almost time for breakfast,” she tells me. “The kitchen puts out food for everyone, you can come up there with me.”

I am starving. I was happy to starve for her all night, having skipped dinner, but this can’t go on forever. “That sounds good,” I say. “Um, what do you want to tell people? Should we, like, make an announcement or something?” I don’t know how this is supposed to work. I’ve never paid that much attention to what happens when people in my pack find their mates. And it’s possible that her pack does things differently.

We’re back on her bed, sitting up this time, leaning against the wall with her pillows behind us, our fingers twisted together. She is silent for a moment before answering. “I think, maybe, if it’s all right with you, we shouldn’t say anything yet? I mean, Alpha Kanen just found his mate last night too, and I know that everyone will be all excited about that. There’s probably going to be a big mating ceremony for them. I just think that we should sort of let that unfold without trying to get in the way of it?”

“Whatever you want, babe,” I tell her, leaning my nose down to inhale along her hairline. I’ll never get enough of this scent. Then I smile. “So is this, like, a secret?” That sounds kind of fun.

“Just for now,” she says, holding my hand in hers, inspecting my fingers.

“Well, then I probably shouldn’t be coming up from the basement together with you, right?”

“Oh, yeah.”

I look down at myself, my blue suit still on, rumpled from laying in it all night, my tie all caddywompus. “I suppose I should go change anyway. Meet you in the kitchen in a few?”

Well, more than a few. There has to be a lot of kissing first. Eventually, I manage to tear myself away from her, sneak out the back door and around to the front, and go back up to the room I am theoretically sharing with Evan.

It hurts. I wasn’t expecting that. As soon as I leave her scent behind, it feels like a hole has been torn inside me, like my heart has a rip in it. Not just a figure of speech - this feels very real. It physically hurts to be away from her, a pain in my chest, a literal heartache. I hope she isn’t feeling this too. This might complicate our plan.

I manage to get up to my room without talking to anyone, wincing from this strange ache in my heart, and just as I am opening the door Evan is starting to come out of it. He looks me up and down, sees me still wearing my suit from last night, and grins.

“Hoo boy, this is a walk of shame if I’ve ever seen one!” he grins at me, coming back into the room with me.

I smile and shrug, starting to undo my tie.

“One of the hot River Moon girls?” he asks, apparently eager for details.

“Mmm, something like that,” I say, and move over to my suitcase to get out some jeans and a t-shirt.

He leans against the wall, watching me for a minute, then says, “Fine, keep your secrets. I’m going downstairs to breakfast.”

“Kay,” I say, “see you down there.”

When he goes I slump down on the floor for a minute. It hurts to be away from her, and we have to keep it a secret, and everyone is probably going to be gossiping. This is already getting complicated.
