Chapter Get ready to fight
" What do we do now?” Trevor asked, looking exhausted and sitting on the chair in the living room. During their interrogation, the vampire had suddenly turned into a tiny insect, and they couldn’t find him. He had probably escaped through one of the vents made in the torture chamber. They were all busy looking for him for the past hour but to no avail.
" There’s no point in wasting our time finding him. We should be happy; at least he revealed his human self. It looks like he was so scared of the fire that he couldn’t think straight, and when he came to his senses, he escaped through a vent, ” Adele remarked and then faced Dalton. ” What about the warriors? Any news about the Demon’s forest?”
Dalton suddenly seemed active again. ” Yes, Luna. Our team, which had gone towards the west, have found it.”
" That’s excellent!! ” Adele exclaimed. ” As we do not know where Chris and Liam are held, we have no choice but to attack the witch and her army in the Demon’s forest on the Blood Moon day. I am sure Chris and Liam would be there.”
" What if the witch comes out of her trap?” one of the pack members pointed out.
" We have to fight her,” Adele says in a matter-of-fact tone and asks Dalton, ” How much time do you need to get the warriors ready?”
" We are always ready, Luna. If you say, we can leave now. ”
" How long will it take to reach the Demon forest?”
" Around 2-3 hours.”
" We have two days until the blood moon day, so we need to start preparing. ”
" How many warriors do we need?” Dalton asked.
Adele looked at Axel, who said, ” We don’t know anything about the enemy’s army nor the number of wolves they have.”
" Though we don’t know their number, I am sure one of our warriors is equal to ten of those pathetic rogues,” Trevor sneered.
" So, what do you suggest?” Adele asked Trevor. ” We can’t take everyone, as we can’t keep the pack unguarded.”
" I think we will take 100 wolves with us, and others would be here on standby; they will come if required.”
Adele nodded and looked at all the Pack members who were gathered, ” There’s only one day to practice, so start right now.”
" We all train regularly, so we don’t need to practice, ” Dalton says proudly.
" I am talking about the women here; I have never seen them practice.”
" Why women?” Dalton asked, confused.
" Archer’s pack is with Samara, so what if they attack when we are not here? Even our neighboring pack is no better,” Adele says with disgust.
" We have the safety chamber to hold all the women and children, and also, there will be warriors here to protect them, ” Trevor says.
" It’s always better to be safe than sorry. Everyone should at least know the basic defense techniques. We don’t have much time, so scram, ” Adele said, not leaving any scope for argument. She had enough with them being biased.
Once they left, Adele spoke to Axel. ” I can’t leave the kids here alone.”
" I was about to say that. Let’s take them home.”
Adele takes the twins from Maria, and they all drive to the Silverlake Pack.
Her family was ecstatic to see the kids, but Adele didn’t look too happy.
" What’s wrong, Ade?” Daisy asked her.
" I won’t be able to take care of them for the next few days.”
" You don’t have to worry about them, ” Adele’s Mom replied. ” We are here to take care of them.”
" But Mom, they only feed on breast milk.”
" I will feed them,” Daisy smiled at Adele. ” I am already feeding Darren, and I can feed Ian and Iris too. I just need to have some extra food,” Daisy said to lighten up the mood.
Adele was overwhelmed. She hugged her friend and cried her heart out. She didn’t want to say anything and just wanted to let it all out. Even Daisy did not question her and let her cry in her arms. So much had happened in the past few months, and Adele didn’t seem to catch a break. The war was in two days, and she was unsure what would happen. Will she and her mates come out alive? Will she be able to see her babies again?
After Adele had cried for a good ten minutes, she wiped her tears and
said, “I will meet Sybil now. I want to talk to her.”
Daisy nodded, and Adele went to go to Sybil’s room.
Sybil was happy to see Adele but frowned at seeing her sad face. ” Are you okay, my child? Is something bothering you?”
Adele nodded.
" If it is related to Samara, I think I can help.”
" Yes, you are the only one who can help.”
Meanwhile, Axel was looking for Adele as they had to go back to the Blackwood Pack to discuss their strategies for the impending war. Daisy informed him that Adele was with Sybil.
Axel approached Sybil’s room and was shocked to hear their discussion. He suddenly dashed into the room and roared, ” You won’t do anything of that sort.”
" B-Bro...” Adele stuttered, and Axel saw that she was in tears. He approached Adele and wiped her tears. ” You don’t have to cry over this; we won’t have to do it anyway as we have other options.”
" I-I just wanted to be sure about everything; what if things don’t go as planned?”
" Think positive, Ade. Nothing will go wrong. Even if Samara is released, you and your mates can trap her again.”
Adele nodded, but she was not sure herself. Axel didn’t know about her relationship with her mates. He didn’t know that they did not love and trust her. Because of her uncertainty, she was forced to approach Sybil asking for alternate options, but this was worse than she thought. She shuddered at the possibility of choosing this option. No, she couldn’t do that, no chance.
" Forget about what you heard now and let’s leave,” Axel said.
Adele nodded and looked at Sybil.
" Take care, dear, and stay strong,” Sybil said with a sad smile.
" Thank you for everything,” Adele said and left the room. Before leaving, she wanted to see her kids. The kids slept in the nursery, and Adele stared at them lovingly.
" I want to hold them,” Alexa said. " In my wolf form.”
" Why?” Adele asked.
" I just want to feel them close.”
Adele didn’t question further and locked the door. She picked up the kids from their cradle and placed them on a blanket on the floor. She then undressed and shifted into her wolf. Alexa nudged the pups with her snout and held them close. Tears flowed down from her eyes as she licked her kids on their cheeks. The babies groaned in their sleep and hugged her even close as they felt comfortable wrapped in the warmth of the soft fur.
After a good fifteen minutes, Alexa got up reluctantly and shifted back to her human form. Adele got dressed and placed her babies in their cradle. She kissed them on their cheeks and went out of the room quietly.
At the Blackwood Pack, Adele was impressed seeing many women had volunteered to get the basic training. She jumped in a taught them a few simple tricks of her own to distract the attacker.
The following two days were intense. They discussed the strategies and possibilities. They aimed to save Chris and Liam even before Samara performed her rituals, but they had a feeling it would not be an easy feat. And once Samara was back, it would be even worse as they didn’t know the extent of her power.
The army was ready to leave for the Demon’s forest, and Adele noticed the tensed expressions on their faces. Adele herself was worried, but she did not show it on her face as she didn’t want to get their morale down. She faced the Pack members and spoke in a loud voice, ” We are delving into the unknown, and for the most part, we have no idea what we will be fighting against. I know you guys are worried because you have always had your Alpha and Beta besides you guiding you through everything. You don’t have to feel disappointed that they are not with you; rather, you all should consider yourself lucky that you got a chance to fight for them. They will be proud of you all.”
Adele saw the warrior’s expressions change to being determined to do their best. She continued to boost their confidence further. ” We will get through this. We just need to have faith in ourselves even if the odds are against us. We are better than those rogues and the evil witch because we know that our actions are not wrong. Fight with all you have got, and we will surely win this. We will get back our Alpha and Beta.”
The pack members applauded and cheered, and their gloomy faces had turned to one of excitement.
Adele raised her hand, indicating them to stop, and stated, ” One more thing. I don’t want a single person to lose his life, so keep a watch on yourself and your friends. Once a person is injured, get them to safety and then fight.”
" Yes, Luna,” the crowd burst out in unison. They all took their weapons and got inside their vehicles, ready to leave.
Sera joined Adele with bags of potions and said, ” I will come with you.”
" Sera... it’s risky.” Adele was not too sure.
“Please, Ade, you may need me. I have thoroughly learned from Mom about the rituals and spells in detail. I will brief you on the way so that you don’t forget. Also, I can help the warriors in their healing,” Sera said, showing her the bag of potions.
" Will you be safe?” Adele asked.
" Come on, Ade. I was with you in the Martial Arts class for years. Though I am not as good as you, I can still manage to land a punch or two, and don’t forget I am a witch. I know a few spells of my own,” Sera smirked.
" Fine. Let’s go.”
