Chapter 26 – Going away
I sat on the bed, staring at my hand as I watched the redness fade away, Grayson right next to me, his arm brushing against mine. I frowned and shook my head before laying my head on his shoulder.
“Did you catch what she was saying?” I lifted a brow at his question as I stared at the wall. Truthfully, of all the languages I had known over these many years, I didn’t know that one she spoke. But, and there was a huge but, the language did sound oddly familiar and it tickled the memories in my mind. I looked up at him and frowned.
“No…and yes.”
“What do you mean?”
“I don’t know it, but I vaguely recall something like it. But hell if I can remember. It’s…like this black spot that I can’t pin point.” I sighed and he wrapped his arm around my shoulders and placed a kiss on my forehead.
“Do you have anything going on this weekend?”
“Uh, not that I know of, why?”
“We are going away. A few days for you and me; away from all of this, of taking a break and getting to know each other.” I looked up at him and smiled.
“That sounds ideal.” I leaned up and gave him a light kiss before pulling away as Tessa walked into the room, glancing between Grayson and myself.
“What was that?” Tessa asked as she pointed out to the living room. “Not a witch, for none of us can do that!” I walked over to her, mindful of my few burns and took her hands.
“What I’m about to tell you, Tessa, cannot leave this room. And those other three witches cannot remember this.” I looked at her, my words and meaning clear. “If you do not want to know, let me know now.”
“Fire, this is my family. And as far as I know, you know no witches my age. So, please tell me.”
“We,” I said, looking at Grayson as he stood up and walked over to us, “think she was a demon witch.”
“Not possible.”
“It’s true Tessa. Fire and I have seen both a rouge wolf and a lord vampire under the same guise. Something is happening in the supernatural world and we aren’t sure what, though we plan to figure out what.” Tessa glanced between Grayson and me.
“Neither one of you are normal,” she uttered. I looked at Grayson and then back at Tessa, who stared at Grayson. Tessa knew my story but now she was picking up on the vibes that was Grayson.
“No, we aren’t,” he answered, even though it wasn’t a question. She went on looking at him for a few more moments before nodding.
“What makes you so sure they are demons?”
“We aren’t, but we found something. In fact, as you are one of the oldest families I know, especially around here, I was going to call you. I found a book from the witches who took care of me.” I glanced back at Grayson who nodded. “And I showed it to Grayson as he was raised by witches as well.”
“Is that right? Well that makes you even more perfect for each other.” I wrinkled my brows but wasn’t going to push it. “I can try to read the book, but I make no promises. I have some skill with some of the older stuff but there are still a lot of things I don’t understand.”
“Of course, Tessa. Any help you can give us would be great!” I smiled at her and she gave me a quick hug. “I’ll send Elric by with the book and I’ll mark the page I saw.”
“Thank you Fire, for trying to help.”
“I’m sorry. I have yet to figure out how to help them when they get to that point. The wolf and the vampire were much the same.” She nodded her head in understanding.
“I will bid you a good bye then, so I can go make that potion.”
“Of course.” I grabbed Grayson’s arm and led him outside and back to the car, my mind spinning. There were so many questions, and no answers. In fact, coming here tonight brought up even more questions. Grayson grabbed my hand as we left the house and I had to smile. He was right; getting away for a bit would help, it should clear our minds.
“Are you going to be okay?”
“Any chance of leaving tonight, rather than tomorrow?” Grayson looked at the clock on his dashboard and nodded.
“Yeah, actually, there is. I’ll drop you off so you can pack and pick you up in about two hours, is that okay?” I smiled bigger than I thought possible and nodded.
“I will get everything ready. Wow, can’t remember the last time I just up and left for an extended weekend.”
“Promise Fire, you won’t be disappointed.”
-----
Four hours later we were pulling into the drive way of a three bedroom cabin buried deep in the woods. I stepped out of the SUV, hearing nothing but nature and had to smile to myself. It had been ages since that was all I heard.
“You already look better,” Grayson said as he walked around and up next to me.
“It’s quiet. As a vampire, it’s always loud so to be far away from everything…this is a little slice of heaven.”
“Hopefully, I can make it more than a slice.” Grayson took my hand, laced our fingers and walked into the cabin, flipping on the lights.
“God, this is a gorgeous place.” My eyes took in the large living room with the many pieces of cozy furniture, all facing a big fire place. “No TV?”
“No. If anyone comes here, it’s to unwind and escape.”
“Is this yours?”
“Yes. Belongs to the pack, but usually it’s used by me or my family. The kitchen does have an updated theme, everything is new. There is a pool table and a movie screen in the basement but other than that, nothing else. Even the phone service sucks.” I looked at my cell and saw the one bar.
“Good thing I told Elric I was going with you and to contact Dylan if he needed anything.”
“Good,” Grayson said as he wrapped his arms around my waist, “because the next three days is really just for us.”
“And that makes me rather happy,” I mumbled before my lips captured his as I slid my hands up his arms, over those amazing shoulders and around his neck. I ran my fingers through his hair as his lips returned the passionate kiss, his tongue enticing mine in an erotic duel that sent tiny shivers running up and down my spine. I moaned against his lips as the fire started low in my belly from that kiss alone. God damn, he could kiss; he knew how to make any woman bow to him and make any coherent thought fly from their mind. He knew his skills and was not afraid to use them. And if that was just a kiss, I couldn’t even being to picture the rest of the trip wrapped up in his arms and in his bed.
His hands moved down from my waist to my hips and drew me tight against his body as his mouth wrecked havoc on mine. His thigh moved between my legs and rubbed against me, lighting the raging inferno inside of me even more. They say you can learn a lot from the way a person kisses and I was finding out many secrets that was Grayson Black from this kiss alone. I felt the growl from his chest before I heard it and finally broke away, gathering some much needed air.
“Wow,” he said as he rested his forehead against mine as his fingers trailed lightly over my hips. “I’m pretty sure that I have never had a kiss do that.” I ran my nails over his neck as I smiled, loving the feel of the goose bumps that had emerged.
“Yeah, with all that experience?” He smirked and gave me a light kiss. “What did it do to you?”
“You mean besides burn me?” I nodded and he pulled me even closer. “It made me urn to take you in my arms, it begged me to mark you and claim you, it taunted me with all the pleasure I would find within your arms and being buried deep within you, it broke my sanity in half and filled it with just you.”
“Holy shit, that kiss did a lot.”
“I won’t lie Fire, I have had my fair share of women.”
“I felt it; your lips are lethal and that only comes from having a far share of kisses.”
“Does it bother you, really?”
“It does, but not anymore than my past bothers you. We both have them, we know this, but the important thing is focusing on the future.” He lifted a brow at me and smirked.
“Focusing on the future huh? And just what is that?”
“I think you and I both know that the fling idea was nice when the bond wasn’t strong, but we knew it wouldn’t work out, that we would want more. No matter what happens Grayson, I want you; I want you as my beloved.”
