Chapter 1
Chapter 1
Do you know what’s worse than being cheated on by your fiancé?
It’s walking in on him as he fucked another man.
Mia Hart let out a curse as memories of Liam filled her head.
Fuck that man.
And fuck his man too!
Mia was not homophobic. She never was,
But to her, cheaters are unforgivable.
She slammed her car door and walked towards the elevator of the thirty-floor condominium where Trystan Shaw, her future stepbrother. was living. The place where she would be living for the next few months.
The cold breeze of Chicago made its presence. Its biting cold reminded me of her own stupidity.
For a moment, she started thinking if coming to another state to live with her stepbrother was the right thing to do.
After she caught Liam, she immediately wanted to stay away. All she wanted was to leave the people who knew about his cheating and his sexuality but never said anything about it. The betrayal was just too. much to handle.
She just wanted to forget and leave everyone who betrayed her.
Staying in her house where her fiancé had been fucking another man was enough to twist her gut. It was fucking humiliating.
This and the fact that she had put all the down payment for her wedding next year was enough to leave her penniless. So yes, she had no other choice but to ask her stepbrother for a place to stay as she start her life in a new state. A state that’s a hundred times colder than California.
After a few minutes, she reached the twentieth floor and found his flat.
Letting out a sigh, she stared at the large mahogany door in front of her. Running away was never a plan. She was supposed to confront Liam but she was too angry, too irrational. Too afraid to punch him in the face, she decided to pack a small suitcase and flew to this place. She hauled her

whole life and move to different states without a plan and without a thick
coat.
Biting her lower lip, her heart started pounding against her chest. Trystan already agreed to let her stay in his place until she sold hers. Then, she was moving away into a new place, away from her past.
She punched in the code that Trystan gave her. There was a quiet hiss then a beep. Hearing this, she opened the door and dragged her small carry-on inside the house.
The warmth of the house immediately lifted her mood. The sweet smell of Lavender welcomed her. She thought Trystan hated Lavender. But hey, at least the house wasn’t as unwelcoming as the owner.
She thought of what Trystan told her when she called him the other night.
Other than silence…. he said four words over the phone. I will be waiting Then he dropped the call without even saying goodbye.
While irritated, she understood that her presence would disturb his calm bachelor life. So she took a deep breath and decided to let it go. He was doing her a favor. How dare she complain after he helped her?
She examined the interior of the house.
She thought of seeing a reddish Persian rug, brown and beige, and cozy
space.
That was the Trystan that she knew since she was in high school.
Yet what she saw was a black and white and sleek glass table.
The space looked neat- too clean and edgy.
It was the exact opposite of the Trystan that she knew all those years ago.
Her eyes glazed over the living room and focused on the large floor-to-ceiling glass windows that would give her a view of the city. Sunlight slipped from the slightly opened blackout curtains. It gave her a preview of the snow in downtown Chicago.
A sigh left her lips.
The space reminded her of a clean office, something that her ex would love. She rolled her eyes inwardly. Three years down the drain. She had spent the last three years of her life for nothing!
Chapter 1
She should stop thinking about her failure in life and move on.
She started walking to her room. It was on the left, just across his. Trystan had sent a text a very detailed direction of what to do when she arrived. Of course that included a bold DO NOT DISTURB ME phrase. So typical of the villain that she knew
She opened the door and went inside the room without hesitation. Though exhausted, she planned to spend the rest of the day on her laptop. She had sent some job applications while waiting for her flight carlier and someone actually replied when she landed. It was quick but they explained that this was an emergency and a temporary position.
So yes, she was planning to spend the rest of the day in her bed sending applications while trying to console her bitter heart.
A large bed with white beddings and a black paneled headboard. immediately made her frown. She hated anything white and Trystan knew this.
Funny son of a bitch…
She chose to ignore it and observe the rest of the room.
Just like the living room, this room was neat and elegant. It was nice aside. from the haunting white sheets.
Removing my boots, she sat on the bed and looked around. The plain white walls and dark carpet made the room elegant, and sophisticated. A large canvas sat opposite the bed just next to the door that would. probably lead to the bathroom.
Honestly? The room felt detached, like a hotel room. Nothing about it felt cozy. But who was she to complain? Trystan told her she could stay here for free.
And she was going to take his offer.
She looked at the side table and found a piece of paper. Then her expression worsened.

What?
She turned the paper around, thinking there was a large JOKE written

somewhere.
There wasn’t.
- No friends while I’m here.
Growing up. Trystan was always quiet and alone. He prefers his books over people. In high school, he was at the top of his class but he always. refused to join activities that needed him to interact with everyone else.
So, this one was kind of understandable.
- No eating my prepped food. Aside from that, feel free to eat everything in the fridge.
Fair enough.
- No eating inside your room. I hate the smell.
But this… was her room, right? She frowned. What kind of rule was this? It’s not like, he would come inside her room and smell it?
For some reason, the thought of him coming into her room made me freeze. Her heart skipped a beat.
When was the last time she felt something like this?
Nine? Ten years ago?
She dragged her eyes back to the note as she buried the twisted fantasy inside her head.
How could she think about fucking her own stepbrother? Wait. Technically, he wasn’t her stepbrother yet.
He would become one in… six days, seven hours, and forty-three minutes.
Not that she was counting.
The thought made her face hot.
Was it wrong?
Definitely.
But did that stop her from thinking about it?
Nope. Big NOPE.
Memories quickly filled her head)
She was fifteen while he was eighteen when they met. But this wasn’t when it all started.
It all started when she saw him naked.
