Inner Woman Volume 2

Chapter 56 Strangers in the Night

Passing in the night

on opposite sides

of cobblestones

in glowing silver light

Wrapped inside our thoughts

fog streaming at our feet

nothing penetrates the silence

and we will never meet

I smell the sweet red wine scent

I spot the glow of his cigar

I wonder at the burden

which has him deeply bent

Is it as harsh as mine?

Pulsing with pain sublime?

Is the scar a line?

Never crossed in lonely rhyme?

Strangers to each other

bound in thought

coerced by the compulsion

Of memories which smother

We continue our separate path

So close and yet so far

Walking on a line a heart

knows when love is lost to death
