Chapter Traitor unmasked
The next day
Liam’s POV
I’m sitting in the office trying to get more work done. Noah handed me Marcus’ phone, saying that whoever’s private number that is may just try calling him back. If it’s Dahlia, I’ll know once I answer it.
At around eleven o’clock, I hear a knock on the door.
“Come in.” I see Liz popping her head in. “Alpha, I have some…….info for you.”
“What is it?”
She stands straight-up in front of my desk. “I just got a call from a neighbouring pack. They say they have some suspicious activity they think might be of interest to you.”
I raise my brow at her. “What suspicious activity?”
“They didn’t give me much,……well the guy was just babbling on. But he said they noticed rogues hanging around near their border the past couple of days. But apparently these rogues weren’t focused on their border, but ours. His Alpha didn’t like it and had his men capture them today. The Alpha wants to know if you’re interested to go and check out who the rogues are, or if he should let them go.”
I stand up at the news. “Which pack is it?”
“Silver Claw Pack, Alpha Sam.”
“Right. Call them and let them know I’m on my way.”
It’s about a thirty minute drive to that side of my border. I'll go greet Mira before I leave.
I walk to her room, but when I open the door, I see her still sleeping. Could she really be that exhausted from last night? But I don’t want to wake her. I make my way to the side of her bed and lean over to give her a kiss on her cheek.
“I’ll be back soon.” I whisper to her.
As I make my way down to the car, I mind-link Noah to meet me outside. I catch him up on the details as we make our way to the Silver Claw Pack.
Meanwhile
Mira’s POV
I woke up a little confused. The sunlight is so bright in the room. I must have slept longer than I thought. I’m really so tired lately.
Was Liam here? I can slightly smell his scent in the room.
But I need to get up anyways.
After taking a nice shower and getting dressed, I hear the door unlock. It’s probably Liam. Who else can it be?
But to my surprise it’s not him. I thought he said no one else will come to see me.
“What are you doing here?” I question.
Liam’s POV
After thirty minutes of driving we finally get to their border and get stopped by a patrol.
“Reason for visitation?” He asks looking through the window and at both of us.
“Alpha Liam from the Blood Rose Pack, here at the request of Alpha Sam.” I answer him.
The man’s eyes widen and he nods. He whistles, getting someone to open the huge main gate. We drive through to the packhouse. As we get out, Alpha Sam meets us.
“Alpha Liam.” He extents his hand.
“Alpha Sam.” I say as I shake his hand. “This is my Beta, Noah.” I say as I point to Noah. As they shake hands I take in this man’s form. He looks strong, but not so young. Probably around his late thirties.
“This way.” He leads the way to an old barn. He definitely seems to be a man of few words.
As we walk in, we see three rogues chained up and kneeling in the middle of the barn. None of them look familiar. Which isn’t surprising, considering I kill most rogues I run into.
“I hear you rogues have been sniffing around my territory.”
They look weak, probably already beaten to some extent. But the one gives a snide look at Sam. I bend down in front of him.
“What did you honestly think three rogues could do to my pack?”
“Who said we were after your pack?”
“Oh, so who then?”
But he goes quiet.
“What did Dahlia promise you?”
He seems shocked at my question.
“Let’s bargain. I’m sure I can offer you more than she can.”
He chuckles. “Oh really. You think you can offer more than witch powers?”
What? She’s promising these wolves powers.
“Thought so.” He spits out.
“She’s lying. No witch can give another witch powers.”
“Yes she can. She told us, with the blood of a Luna she can. She’s a blood witch. She can do anything.”
“So you’re after my Luna?” I hear Noah, Sam and his wolves growl in the background at this statement. “Dahlia already failed at capturing my mate the first time, what could possibly make her think that three rogues will be able to do the job now?”
But he chuckles again, and soon the other rogues start joining him too, as they get louder with their laughter.
One of Sam’s men hits them with a whip, getting them to stop adn hiss in pain.
“What’s so funny?”
“You think we’re here to capture her...... We’re just the backup.”
A cold shiver runs down my body at his words.
I immediately stand up and turn to Sam. “Do what you want with them. You were the one who captured them. But if you asked me, I would kill them. They’re clearly delusional and desperate. The stubborn kind to come back.”
Sam just gives a nod as he turns back to talk to his people.
“Noah, get in the car.” I say as I rush to the car.
We both get in, and I speed off.
“Fuck!” I shout as I think I suspect what’s happening.
“What’s going on Liam? They said they're backup. Does that mean another attack is coming?”
“Noah, try calling the house, and get Theo on the phone.”
He nods as he takes out his phone.
He loudly sighs. “Reception is too weak around this area of the woods.”
“Shit!” I step on the fuel to get the car going faster.
“Liam, you gotta talk to me.”
“It's not an attack. It's the spy........Think about it. Ever since we started searching for a traitor, you did a double check on all the head-members.”
“Ye-ah.”
“But who’s the one person you didn’t check?”
“What do you mean? I checked every head-member.”
“Exactly, but you skipped two. Aubrey and Char.”
“What are you trying to say Liam?”
“Between the two of them, who has access to Aiden’s office in the infirmary? Who joins every meeting we have as head-members and knows about all the details and information we share?”
“Are you saying Char,-?”
“It’s definitely not Aubrey.”
“But Aiden. You don’t think she’d do that to him?”
“No. That was Marcus’ doing, but maybe it was to push Char. And why would every one of Dahlia’s little minions be so convinced that they can get to Mira, when I clearly doubled up security because of their previous failed attempt? I mean, it’s not like they’re trying to kill her, they’re trying to kidnap her. Which means they need a way in and a way out. But if Dahlia already has an insider, they just need a way out.”
“I’m pretty sure Mira can handle herself against just Char, if she tries to kidnap her.”
“But what if she trusts her? Then she’ll willingly go. Mira won’t even know what’s happening, especially because I left her in Char’s care. Fuck!” I slam my hand against the wheel as I rush back.
“I thought you said no one is to go near Mira.”
“Well I couldn’t exactly leave her in a locked room, especially since I didn’t know how long we’d be gone for. So I gave the key to Char. I mean, she’s my fucking aunt. Even I didn’t think to consider her as the traitor. Fuck, fuck, fuck!!”
