Chapter 50
“What does it mean?” I asked again after Cassie had come over and was looking at my new mark. Finally, she stepped away and dropped my shirt. Spinning to face her, as well as Damien I could see the concern in both their eyes.
“Someone has placed a tracking spell on you using Demon magic,” she said turning away and digging in my bag for her spellbook that I had placed there when we were back at the warehouse. Damien had gone tense and looked furious.
“It could only have been Hunter. It’s what he has been capable of doing since he healed you back in New York…” he said through gritted teeth.
Cassie was frowning at her spell book as she paged through it hastily.
“There is nothing in here that tells me how to stop it!” she screamed and threw the book across the room. I had not said a word.
To be honest I was pissed at Hunter and the situation; not worried or upset. I continued to sit on the bed and watch Damien as he started walking outside with his cell phone in hand. He was angry as all hell by the way he slammed the door once he was outside.
“I’m so sorry Aria. I should be able to do something, but I just can’t. None of my spells can do anything to stop Hunter from finding you!” she yelled, tears streaming down her cheeks from behind her glasses.
She had gone and picked up her spell book off the floor near the bathroom door and had started paging through it again. Once I found Hades and Hunter, I was going to make them pay. This was my life and not some piece of a game for them to screw around with.
“Cassie, it’s okay. Do not beat yourself up over this. We’ll figure it out.” I surprised myself with the confidence I spoke the words with. Cassie looked up from her book at me and she had stopped crying.
“It’s my job to help you and protect you,” she said blandly.
“Yeah, I know that, but this is far from over. If you cannot believe anything else, believe that.” She nodded after a few seconds and took a deep breath. She continued to go through her spellbook whilst I waited for Damien to return. I could hear him outside talking to someone over the phone, but I could not make out what he was saying.
After twenty minutes, Damien came back in.
“Who were you talking to?” I asked curiously. Cassie did not even look up from her book.
“The Hosts; they say that Jesse informed Hades that you had fled before she could hand you over. Hunter has enforced the tracking spell, but it will take a while before he can locate your definite location, so we have some time left before this place is swarmed.”
He had gone to lean against the wall near the small white framed window where he could observe all the exit and entry points.
“How the hell am I supposed to stop the tracking?” Cassie shouted.
She seemed to be in a bad state and Damien did not seem like he was far off either by the look of pure fury radiating about him. I could not believe how I was reacting. I should want to flee and hide but all I felt was complete anger…
“They have told me how to do it but you’re the only one who can do it, Cassie. It is dangerous though. It’s going to take a lot out of you.” he said whilst peering out of the window before facing her. She had already got up and stood waiting.
“Well, how do I do it?” she answered determinedly.
After much arguing, Damien forced me to lay on the bed and rest while I could. I understood his reasoning. I was dead on my feet, but I just could not force myself to sleep; not with everything that was going on. Cassie had set up a circle on the room floor and had a lot of ancient symbols lain within it with some form of sand. Damien had got it.
It was some form of ancient angel dirt that the angels had fallen through when they, along with Lucifer were cast out of Heaven, that he had explained as being something other than dirt, but I had not listened and therefore was referring to it as glorified fucking sand. It did not look special at all. I was seething inside and wondered if I would have to deal with angry housekeeping when this was done too. That would just make this the perfect day.
Cassie had begun chanting the spell, but I did not pay attention. I was going through the park’s flyers that were placed on the bedside table. I couldn’t rest, and this was at least keeping my mind busy. The park had several activities and there were numerous hiking trails. As I flipped through the flyer, the word ‘Devil's Doorway’ caught my attention. A picture of rocks on top of a hill resembled a doorway.
It was named ‘Devil's Doorway’ after numerous reports over the years and ancient natives claiming it held supernatural powers and could be used as a doorway to another dimension. Sitting up straight on the bed, I could not believe that the way to Hades might have been hiding in plain sight.
“Damien!” I called out. He was immediately by the bed and looking me over for anything that might be wrong.
“Look here…” I said swatting his hand away when he was trying to look me over and handing him the pamphlet. After a little while, he sat down. Cassie’s chants could be heard softly in the background as she invoked the spell.
“This can’t be a coincidence. It has to be the way to Hades,” he said still looking at the picture.
“That’s what I thought,” I answered smiling, feeling like things were finally going our way tonight.
“The spell is done…” said Cassie weakly from the floor. Damien and I both got up quickly and hurried over to her. Helping her up, she looked exhausted and pale.
“Cassie, are you okay?” I asked worried as we sat her down on her bed. She never answered, just nodded.
“The spell will only last roughly twelve hours. After it is worn off, Hunter will know exactly where you are, if he doesn’t already…” she managed to get out.
“Thank you,” I said as I passed her a cola. She was shaking and I was sure that the sugar would help her slightly.
“We need to get moving. We need to check out that doorway before people start doing hikes and the sun comes up in about an hour. Cassie, are you okay to move? You could stay…” Damien said.
“I’m fine. I heard what you guys said when I was finishing up the spell. We shouldn’t waste any more time.” Cassie stated, interrupting Damien, and then taking a sip of her cola. Damien and I both looked at each other worried but knew it was pointless arguing now.
“I’m fine,” she said once more. Everyone had something to do now and there was no time to waste.
