Chapter 103
She gave Mason's outfits and accessories to the servant, but even the servant felt offended on her behalf.
"Ms. Zoe!"
Zoe, on the other hand, was calm. “It's just part of my job.”
This was nothing compared to the way Mason tortured her!
She didn’t know that Mason was also in the car. With its heavily tinted windows, now could see who was in the black Bentley. Even the servant thought that Mason's assistant was alone in it.
As Ava closed the door, Mason, who was sitting in the rear seat, asked casually, “What did Zoe say?”
His temper had been volatile at work lately. Even the slightest trigger would set him off.
She answered apprehensively, “She didn't say anything, but I think she’s going out.”
Mason left it at that. As the car started, he thought to himself that she seemed to be quite busy these days!
Zoe went to Liam's law firm before noon. He had some case files he needed to go through with her. His office was small and not exactly luxurious. The bookshelves were lined with various books.
Liam was wearing a three-piece suit and sitting at his desk by the window. The sunlight coming in from the window cast a mottled shadow on him. He exuded style as he held a cigar in his hands, but he was always decisive when it came to discussing the cases. He wasn’t known for dragging his feet.
He told Zoe that the latest evidence they had acquired would raise the chance of an acquittal to eighty percent.
“That means there are still uncertainties,” she said.
Liam smiled faintly in response. Throwing a document before her, he leaned back on his chair and inhaled on his cigar.
“Forgive my candor, Zoe, but . you're the biggest uncertainty in this case! Can you maintain your grip on your marriage with Mason before the judge hears our case? He's been seen going out on the town lately!”
She read the document and found herself stunned. It was the same divorce agreement Mason had signed back then. Only, this particular document didn’t have his signature.
Liam raised his hand and said, “I got this through unconventional means!”
She remained quiet and didn’t say anything.
Staring at her briefly, he shifted his gaze to her wrist. There were some cuts hidden beneath her clothes. However, he was sure that she had suffered more than just physical injuries. Mason had tortured her mind and heart as well.
He asked bluntly, “Why didn’t you go through with the divorce?”
Her secret was revealed now. Training her gaze on the young but capable lawyer, she spoke hesitantly.
“That's because Mason is the only one who could pay for my brother's legal case. I think you understand that, Liam.”
However, Liam had no intention of backing off. “To my knowledge, a lot of young, talented men are vying for your affection, Zoe! And many of them can and will fork out two hundred million dollars for your sake!” He proceeded to cut to the chase, “A certain Dr. Cecil got in touch with me.”
Smiling faintly, he spoke with a certain bitter sarcasm that all lawyers shared, “I can tell he's an upstanding man who won't cheat on you if you marry him. He most certainly won't hurt you.”
She lowered her gaze, lips trembling slightly. After a brief pause, she said softly, “I have a request. Please don't tell Mason about it.”
Liam smiled faintly. “Don’t worry. I won't say anything.”
Zoe's legs were shaking when she rose and left.
Liam spoke up again just as she gripped the doorknob. “Take my business card, Zoe. I'm sure you'll need my services again when we're through with Noah's case!”
She turned around abruptly and looked at Liam. His face was indiscernible due to the light from the window shining behind him, casting his face in shadow.
At that moment, Noah's words came to her mind.
Seek out Liam, Zoe. He could help me as well as you!
