Chapter 433: Red Beacon
Seungju slammed his hands into the table. "Where have you seen her?"
"We didn't agree to your statement," Frederick said. "About the Rogue Maiden, we didn't say anything about it."contemporary romance
"Yet you didn't deny it either," Seungju growled. "Where is she? I need to free Sana and Aeri."
"Why don't you calm down first?" Luck asked. "We did talk to the Rogue Maiden, but she only gave us hints. She didn't even let us see her face, just a small orb of magic that let's us communicate with her."
Seungju fell to his seat, sighing in disappointment, "If she could release Jungko, I'm sure she can do it for my fiance and sister too. I just–"
"Calm down," Frederick said. "She did gave us clues to her plans."
Zeus was the one who stood this time, "What plan? How come we didn't know any of this?"
"The Rogue Maiden gave us a pattern on which Crystal Maiden she would awaken," Midnight said, stepping forward and placing a paper in the table. "After Amethyst, Ruby would come next."
"Baby, you know about this?" Galaxia asked Midnight.
The latter deadpanned and looked at Galaxia straight in the eyes, "I was there when the Rogue Maiden appeared. Also, I'm not your baby. How many times do I have to tell you that?"
"But wait, Ruby is down south," Seungju groaned. "Why would she go there instead?"
"She said it had something to the moon and stars," Midnight said. "Every day, the position of the moon changes. It repeats like this for seven days, or a week. The Rogue Maiden needed the moon to be with an exact angle so she could successfully awaken a Maiden.
"For the stars, there is a pattern that she follows. Each week the pattern points to the direction of the next Maiden to be awaken," Midnight finished. "The first one she awaken was Amethyst, and the stars pointed to the next Maiden, which is Ruby."
"When will the Emerald and Garnet gems be awakened?" Seungju asked.
Midnight looked at the paper with a frown in his face, "Ninth and last respectively."
"Oh," Seungju felt like his hopes just crumbled. The man sighed and just shook his head. "In three months then."
"Yes, unfortunately," Midnight replied. "But don't worry. The Rogue Maiden has all this set up. She had her plans and she already made all the calculations she needed to succeed."
"How are you so sure that she can do this?" Seungju asked, his expression getting more grim as time passed.
"Because she found us first," Midnight said. "She could've approached literally anyone in this room, but she didn't. She knew who to trust, that's why I trust her decision."
Midnight's words made smirks etch on his guild mates' faces. They were proud of their friend and they couldn't agree more. Azure Scorch was the most perfect place the Rogue Maiden could've come for help.
"Oh," Jester snorted. "You're getting a bit conceited, huh? My clowns and I senses a bit of a competitive spirit."
Frederick stood with a grin on his face, "Want to race how many zombies we can kill in the next battle?"
Jester snickered and nodded, "Why of course. I bet your number couldn't even pass a quarter of mine."
"Deal," Frederick chuckled, turning to Seungju. "It's almost a week since Junko was awoken. Where is the Ruby located?"
"By the southern hills lies a city that snaked across the earthly features. The city was built like a giant worm of brick houses laying flatly on five of the nine hills of Agnas Mountains," Seungju started.
"In this city, there's a larger brick building and this is the castle where the Ruby Maiden is. Her name is Mia and she's from the Northern Central part of the Twelve Kingdoms, the Kingdom of Kataki."
"How many days does it take to travel there?" Zeus asked.
Seungju pursed his lips and sighed, "My guess is about nine days."
"How about in dragons?" Hope asked. "The dragons are still here, we can ask them for help."
"I haven't ridden any dragon before," Seungju said. "But I think it will be much less since we don't have to deal with the mountains. I could say that if you fly like a bird, it will only take you about a day."
"That's enough," Frederick said. "Hope, please let the dragons prepare for a flight tomorrow morning at dawn. Let's let them rest for the day."
"Okay," Hope nodded. He walked out of the mansion to speak to the dragons right away.
Frederick then turned to the Adventurers who were with them. "For everyone else, you can rest easy for tonight. No one can harm us."
Their meeting was dismissed and Elliot was left running to chase Seungju. The pink-haired man didn't even try to hide his identity anymore. He just hovered in the air while everyone else walked.
"Seungju," Elliot called out. "I still have a hundred questions to ask you, but you just left me at the back of the tree."
"What is it, Elliot?" Seungju asked, with a voice of annoyance. "I'm really not in the best of the mood at the moment so please make it quick."
"I just want to ask if the portal gate outside is safe or not," Elliot asked. "Won't they destroy it easily?"
"The portal is damage proof," Seungju replied. "It will absorb any damage and transfer it to the soil to convert it into energy that is the used by the tree to bear fruits."
"W-What?" Elliot gasped. "What kind of fruit does it bear?"
Seungju groaned, "Inedible fruit that contains the seed for the portal. But you have to store a ridiculous amount of energy into the tree at one go so the tree can bear the fruit, if the energy is too small it won't produce."
"So, the previous owner charged the tree so it could bear the fruit, right?" Elliot asked.
This time, Seungju's face softened. He looked at the tree which wasn't far from them and then turned to Elliot, "You're almost at his level."
The boy looked at the floating man with sparkles in his eyes, hope filled him after the compliment. "Really?"
"No, I just said that to calm you down," Seungju snorted.
This made Elliot groan and purse his lips, "Meanie."
The two shared a small laugh between each other until Ed was running up to them, panting so hard that it looked as though he was chased by a mob of zombies.
"Did Licht sent his zombies again?" Elliot asked, to which Ed shook his head in disagreement. "Eh? Then what happened."
"Beacon," Ed managed to spit out. "The Ruby beacon is already up!"
"What?" Elliot and Licht chorused. They both ran outside of the portal along with all the other Adventurers to see what was going on.
There they saw the similar scene from when the Rogue Maiden awakened Junko. Somewhere in the large continent, there was a light that pierced through the clear blue skies.
Many Adventurers gasped at the sight, mesmerized and at the same time feeling like they saw a beautiful show.
"Wow," they whispered collectively.
While they admired the red beacon, Elliot and his friends were already worrying. It was two days earlier and they didn't know what to do if Licht could go there first.
