Chapter 111: The rabbit tribe learns
While Felix and the others were running away things weren't as calm as they were on the surface in the upper echelons of the rabbit tribe.
The civilization of the rabbits was wide-reaching, they had an immense underground Empire that spanned across the whole Sparron continent.
The altar was placed in a focal point of the Empire being surrounded by quite a lot of cities but the capital of the Empire wasn't near the altar, it was around 20 cities away.
However, that didn't mean they didn't install any measures to protect the blood altar.
The moment the altar was emptied by Felix they should have gotten a notification but the thing was that the system was intricately connected to the tree soul wisps from above and if they didn't want to they wouldn't alert them.
Considering that Felix's wisp was the leader of the forest above them how would the underlings have the guts to betray their boss?
However, they couldn't keep this news sealed for a long time as the patrol that was supposed to check up on the altar every half a month to see how did the blood they harvested end, there were transformations in the blood that had to happen to achieve the perfect medicinal capability they needed to baptize their warriors.
The moment they arrived at the top and saw how the altar was empty without even a drop of blood remaining they grabbed the long ears atop of their heads and almost wanted to jump into the altar to commit suicide, it would have been better than going back and reporting to the upper echelons about what happened here.
However Felix and the others were already getting away and there weren't any suspects, the alarm set by the upper echelons hadn't been triggered which meant the wisps hadn't seen anything?
They couldn't be blamed for that right?
They shook their heads as they continued to clutch their ears, they knew that no matter what they said considering their leader's attitudes towards something like this happening they were toast!
The patrol consisted of 3 male rabbits and one female rabbit and they were all rather beefy, their muscled bodies were shaking so hard, painting a stark contrast between their attitude and their looks.
They started to mumble as they started to walk backward until they tripped and fell down the stairs of the tall altar.
They only woke up from their mumbling when they reached the bottom of the altar as they looked up again with wide eyes not knowing what to do.
One of the males said:
"Should we... should we report this?"
The other two males shook their heads vehemently while the female finally got up her senses regained as she bonked all of them on the head with her fist.
"We have to report this regardless of what will happen, have you all forgotten the teachings of our military teachers?"
"But our lives are at stake here Mirela!"contemporary romance
"Shut up!"
*Bonk* *Bonk*
"No matter what this is a big transgression against our tribe, we haven't left anyone alive to be offended so they would do this right?"
"Uh... why are you asking us we are just patrolmen, you are the one that actually came from the military because you were discharged."
"Oh right..."
"Anyways you pussies should head back to the city if you don't dare to report things truthfully, I will hold the responsibility for what happened here!"
The male rabbits couldn't help but praise her in their hearts as they ran away leaving her alone near the altar.
She shook her head seeing their frightened figures leave her sight before she started to jump away.
While the capital of the rabbit empire was quite far away there were always shortcut made for military-grade personnel ready to be taken.
It took her around 2 hours before she reached the throne room of the current ruler of the empire.
She kneeled in front of an empty throne as she waited for a short while before a tall rabbit-person with a body packed with muscle laid down on the throne, he was so buff that it was unknown if he could reach his own back anymore, he wore a red robe that was draped over his muscular body which showed that he had stopped some important 'activity to get to Mirela.
"I hope it's something of utmost importance my dear, you know how hard it's for the imperial family to have progeny and you just disrupted a very important session of mine."
The woman looked down and waited for the emperor to finish before she asked:
"Can this little one report what happened?"
The man nodded as he said:
"Go ahead."
"It's unfortunate to say but the main altar blood supply had been sucked dry by an unknown assailant, the alarm created by the tree soul wisps hadn't activated which can mean two things."
The emperor didn't let her finish as he continued for her:
"The first reason would most likely be that we were betrayed by the wisps, the second being the person who did the raid was so skilled that the wisps couldn't actually see anything but that's impossible."
"Yes, milord... with your terrifying intellect there is no reason for this little one to continue her report."
The emperor shook his head as he looked down at the kneeling woman and said:
"I need more details, could you tell me if you smelled anything strange at the altar?"
Mirela thought for a short while then she remembered that she smelled something different besides the normal aroma of the blood fused with herbs from them, there was another unknown smell that she hadn't smelled before.
"Milord I have indeed smelled a different medicinal smell at the altar..."
The emperor smiled as he got up from his throne taking a few steps forward, with every step Mirela felt her surroundings tightening as the air in her lungs refused to leave.
"I...I..."
"Don't be scared, you have done a great job to report this to me but... you know no matter how you would explain the smell to me it wouldn't be enough for me to identify it, I need to feel the smell myself!"
"But Milord I... I served the military with everything I got, I killed and slaughtered in your name to fill the altar to the brim, you... you!"
"I will send you off with a parade after I'm done with you."
The tall figure put his meaty hand on Mirela's trembling face as something slowly started to slip out of her head, a translucent figure that resembled Mirela was pulled out of her body as it tried to squirm out of the giant's grasp.
Suddenly the man opened his mouth wide letting out two extremely sharp incisor teeth which he used to rip off the translucent head of the person in his grasp, the moment that happened the soul body slowly started to dissipate as the voice of the emperor was heard once more:
"Hmmm... red healing pills altered by a tree soul wisp? They are made with blood originating from the Tarot continent and considering the current affairs that are happening above... the lion tribe must have been involved!"
**************************
Landers felt a chill go down his spine as he jumped up from the hole that leads to the city of the rabbits, something was wrong and he realized that they might have been found out but it wasn't something that he hadn't thought about, while they escaped quickly and without any trouble, he wasn't sure what Felix and that wisp friend of his did while they were at the altar.
What they might have left behind could have lead to the discovery of their shenanigans and if they wasted time trying to erase whatever clues there were they would have been caught regardless and it would have been way worse.
Landers sighed as he glanced at Felix who was still on his shoulder, he was cuter now but he could feel that his aura improved marginally and that his physical strength was already closing into the captain level, actually, he might even be able to duke it out with Catro now if strength was the contest.
Manitola and Lindo looked at each other before looking at Felix and didn't know what to say as they asked:
"Who's your little friend?"
The wisp was still on Felix's head but instead of an indiscernible voice, the same high-pitched voice that sounded in Felix's head could now be heard coming from the body-less being:
"I don't have a name yet but I hope that Felix would give me one as he is my master!"
Felix was as surprised as they were, the wisp could actually talk without having a mental connection now? It seemed the blood he absorbed went to work rather fast, but it was still a gaseous body.
A mental message came to Felix:
"I understand what you are thinking but I won't be able to gain a body until I have leeched off from the natural energy that you normally discharge, this is why it takes a long while to get a body but the process is not painful and beneficial for both parties as we will be sharing the natural energies between us creating a cycle that would improve both my upcoming constitution and your already strong one!"
Felix nodded and then looked at Landers who was ready to admonish him:
"I understand what you wanted to do there but any mistake and you would have been toast regardless of how many lives you have Felix if I didn't come and wake you up at the opportune moment what would you have done if the ones who came would have been a patrol team? Even if you killed them there was a chance the fight between you and them would have attracted the attention of whatever superior power is controlling the Empire below and things wouldn't have gone well, do you understand?"
Felix nodded if he thought a little bit more about it, what he had done was very reckless and he was extremely lucky as the sacrifice was done before his arrival... well it wasn't entirely luck as he wouldn't have known all of this if it wasn't for the little guy perched on his head.
He concluded that everything that happened up till now only happened because he was talented!
