Honeybee

Chapter 29

Chapter 29

The adrenaline pumped through Jason’s body. He had never killed anyone with his bare hands. He had never killed anyone, until he shot the man on the motorway, and now he was about to kill two more. Hopefully it would end there, but if more were waiting outside, then he would kill them too. In this situation it was every man for himself, or in this case, every group for themselves.

Edging out of the door, he waited for the fat man to look away and then he sprinted to the mini fortress.

“Where did you go?” Amanda whispered.

“It’s the fat man and two of his men. I’ve taken care of one, now I need to deal with the others.” He said, as he pulled out the gun and handed it to Amanda. “Take this. If anything should happen to me and they get close to discovering this place, shoot, and don’t stop until they are dead.”

With that, he sneaked back out and waited in the alcove. The fat man was still standing tall as though he owned the place, but Jason needed him to move, he wanted to kill him last. Cupping his hands over his mouth, he let out a muted screech in the hope it would scare the fat man from his position. It worked. The fat man looked over his shoulder and then looked around in front of him before hunching down and quietly walking off into the café. Jason could hear some whispering and then a few moments later the other man emerged carrying the gun that they had stolen from Jason months earlier. He swung it left to right, his finger on the trigger ready to fire in a split second. From the way the man handled the gun, Jason could tell that he was nervous, and nervous people tend to shoot at anything that startles them. Jason waited in the alcove as the big man approached and moved slowly, staring ahead towards the toilets.

“Jay. You down there?” He said, barely above a whisper.

No reply. Entering the Gents toilets, the big man peered in.

“Jay. You in here?” He called as he held the door open for the man entering behind him.

“Thank you!” Jason said, as he lowered his shoulder and charged into the big man.

Still trying to figure out what had just happened, the big man stumbled and fell flat out onto the tiled floor, cracking his head on the hard surface and sending the gun sliding into the corner. He was dazed but not out of the fight. He recognised the man on top of him and grunted as he wrapped his arms around him and attempted to squeeze the life out of him. Jason resisted, his arms were trapped by his sides which helped to stop him being crushed but he had no way of escaping. The grip got tighter and the pain in Jason’s ribs was becoming unbearable. As a last resort, Jason pulled his head back and then slammed it down into the big man’s face. Blood erupted from the big man’s face and he released his grip. Jason rolled off, panting for breathe as his ribcage burned. Then he staggered to his feet and picked up the gun from the corner of the room. The big man had rolled over and was getting to his knees as Jason turned around. He aimed the gun, but before he had chance to pull the trigger, the big man lunged at him, knocking the air out of his lungs for the second time and sending him crashing into a cubicle. The gun was no longer in his hands and his shoulder hurt where it had smashed into the toilet pan. He could hear the big man stumbling around and then he heard the sound of metal being dragged along the floor. The big man had the gun. Jason’s mind went into overdrive. If he stayed where he was, he would be shot, that was certain. If he ran, he might make it out, he might not. He didn’t get the chance to make a choice, the big man stood at the door to the cubicle with the gun raised and a satisfied smile on his bloodied face.
