His Ex-wife’s Comeback ( Nancy and Liam )

Chapter 3

Chapter 3 Playing Dirty

Accompanied by the senior executives, Nancy entered the elevator and turned to the vice president, asking, “Are there still a few people who haven’t arrived?” “Yes.” Mason Turner approached with a respectful attitude. “Several followers of David have a big attitude and still want to assert their dominance. They want to teach you a lesson.” “Is that so?” Nancy remained expressionless. “The world changed a long time ago. Why can’t my uncle see through it?” David Smith sat casually in the conference room with five board members. They all seemed indifferent, but deep down, they were anxious. “Why hasn’t anyone arrived yet?” David sat in the chairman’s seat, his chubby face showing impatience. He instructed his secretary behind him, saying, “Go and check.” “David, don’t worry. He will come sooner or later. When a new official takes office, they always want to show off a bit.” Jacob held a crystal bracelet in his hand. He was wearing a costume, and it looked very out of place. David shook his head. “Young people nowadays are really not punctual. Don’t be too tense. We’ll discuss how to handle it later. The Smith family’s industry belongs to us, and I have the final say.” They were discussing how to demonstrate their strength to the new major shareholder when a secretary hurriedly ran over; her face was pale. “Sir, something’s not right. The new CEO has called the management team to another meeting room, and the meeting is about to end.” “What?” They were originally sitting calmly, but they all stood up one after another, slamming the table in anger. “We have made significant contributions to the Smith Group. How dare this newcomer ignore us like this?” Young people really had no manners. The secretary, with a pale face, stammered, “The newcomer is a woman.” They were shocked again. “A woman?” Just as Nancy announced the end of the meeting, David and Jacob burst in with a group of people, their faces filled with anger. However, upon seeing Nancy, their angry expressions were replaced by shock. “Nancy…” “How could it be you?” Mr. David and Mr. Jacob had made various preparations, but they never expected that the savior who revived the Smith Group and acquired 51% of its shares in one go would turn out to be their own niece! Wasn’t she supposed to be dead? Three years ago, Nancy, the heiress of the Smith family and the successor of the Smith Group, accidentally fell off a cliff while hiking a mountain. Her body has not been found to this day. Mr. David and Mr. Jacob were heartbroken and held a grand funeral for their niece. They took over the management of the Smith Group and divided the assets and stocks under Nancy’s name. Who could have imagined that the person who was supposed to be dead would come back perfectly fine? Nancy enjoyed the shock on their faces as she lazily leaned back in her chair and raised an eyebrow. “Uncle David, Uncle Jacob, I’m back alive. Surprised, aren’t you? Unexpected, isn’t it?” With just one sentence, she made them come back to their senses. David and Jacob suddenly had a different expression on their faces as they looked at Nancy. Tears were streaming down their faces, and they were excited to embrace her. “Nancy, you’re still alive; that’s wonderful. Your parents in the afterlife will surely be extremely happy.” Nancy slid her chair back and wrinkled her brow in annoyance. She was looking at them with a calm expression when she said coldly, “I believe that too. They will be very happy.” David and Jacob didn’t know what to say as Nancy stared at them coldly. Nancy had no intention of reconciling with them. She turned to the executives and said, “You have all been long-time employees of the Smith Group. You are familiar with my temperament and style. Now that I am back, I will not let the Smith Group struggle. I will protect the empire my parents built with their own hands. Rest assured, and do your job well. I will never mistreat you.” Meanwhile, in the northern city, Liam accompanied Layla out of the hospital. On the way back, he held his phone and sighed deeply. “I can’t find any trace of you. What have you been doing?” His assistant trembled on the other end of the phone. He had searched and tried various methods to find any trace of Madam Walker within hundreds of miles, but she seemed to have disappeared. He swallowed nervously and reported, “However, Madam’s identity is indeed that of a girl from a rural area in Sunset City, and her parents have indeed passed away due to illness.” Liam tapped his fingertips on his knee, his expression becoming calm. It seemed that he had overthought the situation. Layla sat weakly beside Liam and sighed. “Ms. Morgan is a girl from the countryside; she left without taking anything with her. She is truly unique, isn’t she, Liam?” Liam furrowed his brow. He thought sarcastically of that quiet and silent woman. Perhaps she wanted him to believe that she was different from others. “Mr. Walker, I have already arranged for people to search in Sunset City. Maybe Madam has returned to her hometown.” “There is no need to search for her anymore.” Liam’s expression turned indifferent as he calmly said, “There is no need for any further involvement as we are divorced. Since she chose to leave with integrity, let her be.” “Okay. Oh… And there is one more thing. It’s work-related!” The assistant sensed his boss’s impatience and quickly emphasized that it was a work matter. Liam responded with a single word: “Go on.” “There has been some trouble with the Smith family in the southern city. The mysterious person who saved the Smith Group a few days ago has finally appeared. The news says that… the daughter of the Smith family has returned.” Liam raised an eyebrow and said, “The daughter of the Smith family? Didn’t she pass away three years ago?”
