Chapter 171

In the depths of winter, the evening breeze was piercingly cold.
Lily's slender frame swayed against the cold gusts of wind, and her hair whipped wildly in the air. She tucked her hair behind her ears and fixed her eyes on Xavier and Sarah inside the Maybach. Sarah leaned toward Xavier, and from the angle, it looked as though she planted a kiss on his cheek.
That kiss was like a heavy rock that smashed into Lily's heart. Lily knitted her brows instinctively, and her eyes were dry and sore from the cold wind. Yet she stubbornly kept her sights on them. Xavier didn't see her and drove away quickly. It wasn't until Lily's figure completely vanished from the rearview mirror that Sarah sat up straight. She roached under the car seat and pulled out a lipstick. "I've been looking for this lipstick for a long time. I thought I lost it, but it was actually in your car."
Xavier raised his hand to turn off the Bluetooth headset in his ear. The smile on his face faded slightly. He thought of the look on Lily's face when she saw the lipstick. "Be careful next time."
"I know." Sarah placed the lipstick back in her bag, her gaze shifting slightly. Suddenly, she gasped, "Oh no! I left my USB drive at the office!"
The speeding car suddenly slowed, and Xavier pulled over to the side of the road. He rested an elbow on the steering wheel, lowered the window halfway. and lit a cigarette. "Go get it now." "Okay!" Sarah said. She opened the door and stepped out. Then, she quickly walked down the street and headed for the company.
Lily was enveloped by a misty, chilly air. There was frost clinging on her curled lashes
She stared emptily in the direction where the Maybach had disappeared, and a figure with graceful elegance suddenly appeared. Sarah, in a long red dress, sashayed toward Lily,
Sarah's exquisitely made-up features carried a big smile that was laced with contempt. She said, "Ms. Joyner, are you here to deliver dinner to Xavier? Would you like me to bring it to him? He's about to have dinner with me, but at least he'll know you stopped by." "Stopped by." It was perhaps the final descriptor of Lily and Xavier. She had "stopped by" in Xavier's life.
Her presence left no impact on him, but Xavier was etched deep into her being. He had lied to her and hurt her over and over again. Yet she always forgot and only remembered after getting hurt
Xavier was just using work as an excuse to meet Sarah in secret. Yet, Lily felt bad for him, thinking he was overworked and exhausting himself.
For a moment, she didn't know if she should laugh at her foolishness or be angry at how overboard Xavier had gone.
"Why aren't you talking?" Sarah crossed her arms and stood haughtily. "Honestly, I don't mean anything by it. I'm just advising you to stop wasting your efforts on fruitless matters. He won't be moved by you, and you'll only make yourself miserable. So why bother?" It definitely wasn't necessary.
Lily's fingers tightened around the thermal food container and regained her composure despite Sarah's taunts.
"I don't have to impress Xavier. I still need to occasionally make my presence known, so that you won't forget that I'm the one who is his wife." Compared to Lily's desire to tear Sarah apart, Sarah seemed to be more eager to destroy Lily. It was as if Lily was the one who stole from Sarah "How can you even call yourself Xavier's wife? Even I'm too embarrassed to call you that."
Sarah was exceptionally arrogant as if she wasn't afraid of Lily completely losing it. Or perhaps she knew that Lily needed Xavier's help and wouldn't
dare to make a scene.
"You've never called me that, anyway," Lily said.
In the two years of her marriage to Xavier, no one but the household staff had ever called her
Mrs. Fulton
She was suddenly grateful that her marriage was a secret. If everyone had known she was Xavier's wife, she would have to correct them one by one after the divorce.
