Chapter 1281
“Um.”
Eviette Robins nodded, gently wiping away the tears on her youthful cheeks with her delicate fingers. She took a deep breath, trying to calm her emotions.
“Alright, you’re doing well.”
He gestured towards the adjacent room, I’ll be in the next room, call me if you need anything.” He turned around and headed towards the next room.
As he opened the door, he couldn’t bring himself to look back at Eviette Robins, who still appeared worried. The two of them locked eyes for a moment before retreating to their respective rooms.
Twenty minutes later, Matthew Kings arrived at the Vienna Hotel and stood outside the 909 Presidential Suite.
Knock, knock, knock!
He rapped on the door with a heavy sound, as if the slight restlessness in his mood could be sensed just by listening to the knocking. Inside the room, Eviette Robins’ heart raced, and with each knock, her heartbeat became irregular.
Getting up, Eviette Robins quickly walked to the bathroom and examined herself in the mirror. She tidied her hair and checked her facial expression. Everything seemed normal before she walked to the door and opened it.
“Matt. Why did you come so late?”
Eviette Robins smiled, her voice particularly gentle and sweet. Matthew Kings’ face turned cold, his icy gaze swept over Eviette Robins, and he bypassed her, entering the suite directly.
Standing in the living room, he got straight to the point, “Did you do it today?”
“What…what?” Eviette Robins pretended not to understand. Even if Matthew Kings knew it was her, she couldn’t admit it.
The man took out a cigarette from his suit pocket, lit it, and walked to the sofa with the cigarette in his mouth. “Eviette, you know my temper.”
With that, he raised his hand, and his deep and piercing gaze shot towards Eviette Robins, carrying a hint of coldness that sent shivers down her spine.
Eviette Robins felt uneasy, but she was a professional actress after all. Despite her racing heart, she managed to maintain a calm. facade. “Matt, I genuinely don’t know what you mean. You also know my personality, I prefer to be straightforward about things.”
“Good.”
The man flicked the ash from his cigarette into the ashtray, his eyes deepening as he noticed the numerous cigarette butts of women in the ashtray.
Eviette Robins also noticed his slight stiffness as he leaned forward to flick the ash, and her gaze fell upon the ashtray, where she saw the dense cigarette butts. And beside them, an almost empty cigarette box.
Matthew Kings had an astonishing insight. Even a few cigarette butts could provide him with some clues and let him know that Eviette Robins was feeling anxious at the moment, which was why she had been smoking a lot.
But what could be making her so anxious? He slowly lifted his head, and unexpectedly, his gaze met Eviette Robins’.
It was that look that startled Eviette Robins, causing her heart to skip a beat and making her inexplicably nervous.
“Did you have something to do with Roni’s incident?” he asked..
“Roni?” Eviette Robins murmured subconsciously.
The intimate way he referred to her made her wonder if Matthew Kings and Veronica Murphy were truly divorced or if today’s events had rekindled his affection towards Veronica Murphy, reigniting their once-dead love. She wasn’t sure in her heart.
“She… hasn’t she already been taken to the hospital?” she replied.
“I’m asking if…” Matthew Kings sat up straight, crossed his legs, and with his serious demeanor, he unconsciously revealed a hint of arrogance, instantly creating a sense of distance between them.
Having known Matthew Kings for many years, she had never seen him behave like this. Then, Matthew Kings continued, “Did you have anything to do with Roni falling into the water?”
“I…” Eviette Robins instinctively wanted to nod, but in that moment, Melvin Winson’s words from earlier flashed through her mind. Trusting Melvin Winson, she confidently replied, “I don’t know why you would suspect me. But I truly have nothing to do with this!”
