Heavenly Poison

Chapter 8

Damien Gray

The humans surrounding us had backed away, but they continued to cheer on whoever they were going for.

Luke had been slow reacting to Sebastian’s blows. When he finally threw a punch, Emilia had already stepped in.

His fist was about to connect with her face when she moved out of the way. His hand connected with nothing but air, before Emilia grabbed it and shoved him away.

I was surprised she’d pushed him with enough force to make him stumble back.

I quickly noticed that other male shifters had gotten in the circle to back Luke up. Three were trying to attack Sebastian, who was doing a good job in keeping them back. The moment I stepped in the circle, Emilia turned around.

I had just managed to shove a guy, who was about to punch Sebastian in the back, when Emilia came to my side.

“Move away from here!” Emilia yelled at me, trying to push me away.

I hardly listened to her, as I tried prying off a guy who was trying to wrap his arm around Sebastian’s neck in a chokehold.

“Enough!” Emilia yelled.

Everyone in the group, both human and shifter, stopped. Even the people in the sidelines stayed quiet.

“Luke, get to class,” Emilia ordered, glaring at Luke harshly.

Luke growled audibly at Sebastian, not looking ready to back down.

“Now,” Emilia growled. This caused some humans to back away more than they already had.

Luke reluctantly nodded at Emilia, before making his way out of the circle. From how tense he looked, I assumed he was going to leave campus and probably shift in the woods. His Wolf was at bay, looking for any opportunity to come out.

None of the shifters followed after him.

“You’re dismissed.” Once Emilia said that, the rest of the shifters followed.

Sebastian had some blood on the side of his lip, so I assumed someone had managed to land a punch.

“I suggest the rest of you follow,” Emilia said, now turning to glare at all the humans who hadn’t made an attempt to leave.

“What’s going on here?” I heard someone, probably a teacher, ask.

I rolled my eyes, feeling shame in the attention the teachers paid to what was going on with the students.

“Let’s get to class,” Sebastian calmly said, as he put his arm around my shoulder and began walking us toward the gym.

It was right next to where we were, so it wasn’t a long walk. Emilia grabbed my hand, and was walking along with us.

She looked worked up, and her eyes had shifted to black.

It worried me. It was dangerous if any other human noticed that her eyes would sometimes shift from their bright blue, to a darker color.

“What happened between you and Luke?” Emilia asked Sebastian in a demanding tone.

Sebastian shrugged, as he wiped away the blood that was still on the side of his lip. If he had been hurt, it had already healed. There was no sign he’d been punched.

“Who started it?”

Sebastian looked thoughtful for a moment, before speaking.

“If you haven’t noticed, it all took place next to the gym- where I have class. Your boy Luke came to pick a fight. He got mad because I didn’t want to back down.”

I rested my back on the wall, since we were sitting on the top bleacher. Emilia was sitting next to me.

I could feel her tension because at moments she would squeeze my hand tighter. It was another thing that I noticed sometimes she didn’t control- her strength. A regular human girl shouldn’t be as strong as Emilia appeared.

She wasn’t cautious with using her strength in public.

“I’ll talk to Luke about it,” Emilia said.

“You know, I’m really curious to know how you have so much control over Luke and all his buddies,” Sebastian commented.

I narrowed my eyes at him, knowing he was doing it on purpose. Emilia wasn’t exactly good at hiding that she had some power over the other shifters.

“They’re my friends,” Emilia insecurely replied.

I could hear her heart beating faster, and I was certain Sebastian could hear it too.

I would have to talk to Sebastian later as well. He’d been too obvious in his fight against Luke and the other shifters. A Werewolf was easily stronger than any human. Sebastian had been able to fight them back without a problem.

The fact that he’d bruised Luke’s cheek was proof enough. Of course Luke’s injury would heal, but I had seen the side of his face had turned red after Sebastian had punched him.

The only reason none of the Werewolves had called Sebastian on it was probably because they were either too angry, or too focused on trying to beat the shit out of him.

“You can tell Luke that if he wants to fight, I don’t mind. But I would rather him come after me once we’re not in school,” Sebastian said after a while.

Emilia frowned at him, but she didn’t add anything else.

I noticed when Emilia finally calmed down. She’d picked up my arm to put it around her shoulders, and snuggled her body against mine.

“You weren’t in fourth period,” Sebastian told me, as he laid down on the bleacher below us. He grabbed Emilia’s back pack and put it under his head as a pillow.

“I was busy,” I replied.

He probably already knew I’d been with Emilia. He usually knew where I was, at all times, without me having to tell him.

“I assumed,” he said.

He closed his eyes after that. Even though he was acting calm, I could sense he was ticked off about what had happened.

While the coach began playing basketball with some of the students, we sat on the bleachers. He didn’t come and bother us to change, not that I was going to change even if he did.

I had to wake Sebastian up when the bell rang. He had actually taken a nap, which I hadn’t been expecting.

“Don’t be skipping classes anymore,” he said to me, before walking down the bleachers and heading to his next class.

“I don’t want you getting in between fights if Luke is involved,” Emilia said as we walked towards our last class.

I turned to look at her. She’d been looking up at me as we walked.

“As long as Sebastian isn’t involved, I won’t be getting into any fights with Luke,” I told her.

“Damien, I don’t want you to get hurt,” she said, getting in front of me. I had to stop walking, while she placed her hand on my chest.

“Luke is really strong, and he knows how to fight.”

I kept my eyes on her, while she tried to get her point across.

“I can take care of myself,” I said.

“You don’t understand,” she tried to say, before I interrupted her.

“I understand, and I’ll be fine. Luke is the one who should watch out, especially if he tries going after Sebastian.”

She looked uncertain. I knew she thought Luke would hurt us. She thought we were human, so it was obvious that Luke would be stronger than both of us.

That wasn’t the case.

“C’mon, let’s go to class,” I told her, putting my arm around her shoulder.

On the walk to class, I began thinking over my own words. If Luke did enough to get on Sebastian’s bad side, Seb wouldn’t hesitate on taking care of him.

All sixth period, people in class were trying to ask about the fight. I wasn’t happy to be talking about it. When Emilia snapped at them, they finally left us alone about it.

“We can go to my house. My dad wants to meet you,” Emilia said on the walk to her car.

“Your dad knows about me?” I asked, pretending to be surprised.

Sebastian had already told me the Alpha had been asking about me.

Emilia tried retracting on her words, not that it was really possible.

“Well, he knows we started dating. You’re my first boyfriend and I want to do everything right,” she replied, as she wrapped her arms around me.

I let my head fall back, thinking over her words.

“Who said we were dating?” I asked her.

My words immediately made her blush, which was something that made me chuckle.

When I placed my hand on her cheek, I felt Emilia rested her head against it.

“I just said it right now, because we are,” she replied.

I didn’t argue with her, deciding it was best not to get into that for now. We were practically dating either way, even if I hadn’t properly asked her.

“I’m going home. If you want to come over, you can,” I told her.

“You don’t want to meet my dad?”

I shook my head as a reply.

“Why not?” She asked.

“You can come with me or not. I’m fine with whatever you choose,” I told her.

I could see she wanted to say something else about it, but she didn’t.

“Will you come meet my dad tomorrow?” She asked me.

I grinned at her, liking how insistent she was.

“I’ll think about it,” I replied, leaning down to kiss her.

Emilia already had her arms around my neck, which gave me easier access to her.

When I pulled away, I heard Emilia’s complaint- trying to pull me back down to her lips.

“I’m going to tell Seb that you’ll drive me home,” I told her.

Sebastian didn’t look surprised when I told him that Emilia was coming home with me. He told me to be safe, as he tucked a condom in the back pocket of my jeans.

“We’re just hanging out,” I told him.

I was standing next to the driver’s side of the car.

There was a girl on the passenger seat, waiting for Sebastian and me to finish talking. Since the bell rang a while ago, most of the people had already emptied out the parking lot.

“I don’t want that girl in our apartment,” I said, nodding toward the girl inside the car.

“And you are taking Emilia there?” He asked, cocking an eyebrow.

“Emilia’s different. If you take that girl to the apartment, I’m kicking her out and I won’t be nice about it,” I warned him.

He shrugged, but gave me a grin.

“You know I keep my little toys away from home. I’m surprised you think that has changed,” he said, giving my cheek a light pat.

“Go with Emilia, she’s waiting for you,” he told me, before getting into the car.

The drive home was filled with questions about the apartment. I could easily tell her excitement, which kept a smile on my face for most of the ride.

“Where are your parents?” Emilia asked right after I led her into the living room of the apartment.

It would come up at a certain point, I was aware of that. I simply didn’t think Emilia would ask so soon.

“No parents,” I told her, taking a seat on the couch, in front of the TV.

Emilia was sitting on the couch in the side. As soon as she saw where I sat, she came to my side.

“What about Sebastian’s parents?”

“No parents,” I repeated.

“Why not?” She continued asking. She didn’t know it was a sore subject for me, so I couldn’t exactly blame her curiosity.

“They’re not here and it’s something I don’t like to talk about,” I replied, trying to make a point that I didn’t want any more questions about it.

She seemed to take the hint, because she began asking about something else.

“Is Sebastian coming?” Emilia asked, as she pulled away from me.

I smiled at her, noticing how cute she looked when she was fidgeting around the couch.

“He’s busy all afternoon,” I shrugged.

“He doesn’t like me, does he?”

I couldn’t help but laugh at her words. A smile tugged at her lips when she saw me laugh. I once again appreciated how easy it was to make her happy.

“You’re his favorite girl,” I replied.

I didn’t explain that the reason for that was because Sebastian loved the fact that Emilia was the daughter of an Alpha.

“I imagine it’s a desired position. You should hear what all the girls say about him.”

I laughed out loud at that one too. I didn’t need Emilia to tell me that. I already knew for myself what girls thought and said about him. Most of girls- especially the ones in this school- had made their intentions obvious.

“I don’t want to talk about Sebastian,” she said, as she climbed into my lap.

She was picking up where we left off at the library.

“We’re not doing that right now. I’m hungry,” I told her.

I didn’t stop her actions when she began trailing kisses on my neck.

It wasn’t easy to push her away, when just her touch ignited something within me. When Emilia began sucking on my neck, my gifts began feeling all over the place.

“Emilia,” I grunted, noticing my voice sounded huskier.

She pulled away from me, but kept her hands interlaced in my hair.

“What is it?” She asked- her voice slightly breathless.

“Not right now,” I told her, grabbing her waist and setting her on the couch.

“C’mon,” I motioned to her, while I got up.

I walked to the kitchen, with her following after me.

“How do you guys pay for this?” She asked, pointing around the room.

“The apartment?” I asked.

“Yup, how do you pay it?”

I shrugged, as I began taking out the things for a sandwich. I wasn’t a great cook. If I ever ate anything cooked or a proper meal- it was thanks to Sebastian.

“With our bank account,” I replied.

“Do you want one?” I asked her, trying to change the subject.

“I’ll make them,” she said, taking over what I’d been doing.

For the most part, eating was silent. We sat on the kitchen island across from each other. Emilia was really curious about my life before getting here. Most of the questions she asked- I couldn’t answer.

I quickly noticed she was sneaky with her questions. If I didn’t answer something, she would rephrase it. If I still didn’t answer, she would skip to something else, before returning to the same question.

I had taken Emilia upstairs, because she kept asking about my room.

While I sat on the desk chair, she’d laid down on the bed.

“I need to tell you something,” she told me, sounding secretive.

Emilia propped herself up with her arms, making her slightly sit up from the bed.

“What is it?” I asked, already sensing what she was going to tell me.

“It’s going to sound a little crazy.”

I could already hear the Werewolf confession slipping out of her mouth. I didn’t want that. I wasn’t ready for her to tell me that she was a shifter. I already knew, and I was okay with that.

If she told me she was a Werewolf, a part of me would feel obligated to tell her I was a Legen. There was no way Sebastian would be okay with that, and I didn’t want that either.

I was happy with the way things were right now.

“I- I know you won’t believe me, but I can show you if you want,” she said.

Before she could say anything else, I got up from the chair, and made my way to the bed.

“I have a better idea,” I told her, as I swiftly positioned myself over her.

She seemed surprised by my actions.

I slowly leaned down to kiss her, giving her the option to stop me.

Just before I reached her lips, she grabbed my neck and made me crash down on her.

I smiled into the kiss, enjoying the way her hungry lips were moving against mine.

I’d just been planning to kiss her, only enough to distract her from her line of thought. Emilia seemed to have other plans, as she wrapped her legs around my waist.

She kept rubbing herself against me, which was making me loose the little self-control I’d been keeping all day with her.

I stopped kissing her, in favor of trailing kisses down her neck. She rad rolled her head back- as she ran her hands through my hair. It was stimulating to feel her hands play with my hair, as she grinded her core against my hard on.

The click of a door made me stop kissing Emilia’s neck, and I pulled away from her body.

“What’s wrong?” She complained.

“Sebastian’s here,” I told her, getting up from the bed.

The last thing I needed was to start something while Sebastian was home. He would never let me live it down.

I was partly glad for his arrival. I didn’t want to be with Emilia in that way, at least not yet.

“What?” She asked.

Her shirt had risen, leaving her flat stomach in display. Her hair was messy, and it gave the impression we’d been doing something in the bed.

“Sebastian’s here, so you should probably get going,” I told her.

Her shocked expression told me that had been the wrong thing to say.

For the first time, Emilia looked mad at me.

“Why do I have to leave?” She asked.

She still got up from the bed. I wasn’t sure what I’d been expecting. It certainly hadn’t been to have her stand in front of me, looking at me defiantly.

“If you don’t want to go, then you don’t have to,” I told her.

I wrapped my arms around her waist, trying to pull her closer to me. I was surprised when she placed both her hands on my chest, and pushed me away.

“Whatever,” she said, as she began walking to the door.

I stayed still for a moment, wondering if I had really seen her do that. It was the first time Emilia willingly walked away from me.

“Emilia,” I called out to her.

She sped up her pace, much faster than she should’ve been walking. Any other human would’ve been freaked out by how fast she’d made it downstairs.

“Wait,” I said, grabbing her elbow to stop her.

“You said I should leave, right? Well I’m going,” she snapped.

Sebastian was standing a few feet away.

At first, he looked surprise by our appearance. Soon enough, I could only see amusement in his expression.

“He probably said that because of me,” Sebastian interrupted.

Emilia turned to glare at Sebastian, but she didn’t say anything to him.

“It doesn’t matter, I’m still leaving,” Emilia said, turning back to the front door.

I was starting to panic. I wasn’t sure why, since I’d never purposely tried to get Emilia’s attention. I never really had to do anything since I’d met her, because Emilia would always come to me.

Seeing her trying to leave, it awoke something in me.

“I don’t want you to go,” I told her.

She stopped walking, but she didn’t turn to face me.

I pressed myself against her back, wrapping one of my arms around her, and resting it against her stomach.

I let out a sigh of relieve, as I nestled my head in her neck.

“I’m sorry,” I whispered to her.

Emilia placed her hand over mine, and I felt her press closer to my body. They were small gestures- but enough to tell me I was forgiven.
