Heavenly Poison

Chapter 18

Damien Gray

“Where are you?” I asked Sebastian through the phone.

Emilia hadn’t followed me after I told her I wasn’t human. I didn’t feel the Alpha’s presence in the house, which meant he had left us completely alone. I assumed he thought Emilia and I would fix things, which we hadn’t.

“I found Luke and he’s headed your way,” Sebastian told me.

“Are you flying?”

“Nope, I’m following him,” he replied and I could hear the grin in his voice.

“Damien,” Luke greeted me.

His tone sounded bitter. I wasn’t sure if I wanted to kick Luke’s ass or if I wanted to ignore him. I doubted he cared whether his Wolf was surfacing or not. His eyes had grown darker and he looked one step away from attacking me.

If he attacked, I wasn’t holding back. I planned on killing him, which was the least the bastard deserved.

There were still a few feet between us, but Luke was quickly closing the distance.

“Luke,” I said his name in a bored tone.

In my mind I kept wondering what the big deal with Luke was. His father wasn’t even a Beta. I had to admit Luke would probably make a strong Wolf, but he wasn’t first or second best in the pack. In my opinion, his strength was overrated.

“I hear you ran away,” he said.

I wanted to wipe the smirk from his face, but Sebastian stepping out from the trees stopped me from giving Luke any comebacks.

“Damy didn’t exactly run away,” Sebastian told Luke while he made his way towards me.

“Sure he didn’t,” Luke taunted.

Sebastian sighed loudly and with a bit of exaggeration, before crossing his arms and shaking his head at Luke.

“You should be careful Lukey boy. You have no idea who you’re messing with,” Sebastian warned him.

Luke didn’t take the threat too well. A growl rumbled through his chest and his claws extracted from his fingers.

“Don’t do anything, we should just get going,” I told Sebastian.

I was honestly considering a fight with Luke a waste of my time.

“You’re scared?” Luke asked, the smirk returning to his face.

I narrowed my eyes at him, but before I could make any move, Sebastian burst out laughing right next to me.

During the next seconds, some of the shifters in their human form started forming a circle around us.

“Damien?” Emilia called out from behind me.

I had barely turned around to face Emilia, when Luke shoved my shoulder. He was trying really hard to look intimidating. I had to give him props, because in a way, he did look tougher than me.

“You think you can win in this?” Sebastian asked.

There was no humor in his voice, and he had taken a step closer to Luke, only standing about three feet away from him.

“Do you know who I am? What I am?” Luke asked, looking between Sebastian and me.

The crowd gathering around us was quickly getting thicker. Emilia had now made her way over and gotten in the space between Sebastian and me, and Luke and his guys.

They were stupid for backing him up.

“Not here and definitely not now,” Emilia told Luke with a hard tone in her voice.

He had the nerve to laugh at her. That pissed me off.

“Surely you won’t be fighting your mate’s battles when you two take over. Is he that much of a coward?” Luke asked, with his gaze steady on me.

“Damien has nothing to prove to you,” Emilia said, putting a hand on my chest to keep me away. She ended up giving me a push back unintentionally.

I wasn’t surprised by her strength, which caused me to stumble back a few steps. The people around me laughed when I did, and I joined in with a smile.

I already knew Emilia had a physical advantage over me. Not by a lot, but enough to give me competition. She was a shifter and the daughter of an Alpha.

“Is that what you all really want?” Luke asked, this time directing his question to the shifters around us, who of course belonged to the pack.

Emilia looked around at everyone surrounding us, practically forcing them to shut up with the harsh stare she directed at anyone who dared speak up.

I turned to the side, surprised that Sebastian had been keeping quiet. When I saw the grin on his lips and the glint in his eyes, I gave in to a chuckle. He was planning something, and Luke’s attitude was making me want to join in.

“They won’t speak up with Alpha Anthony in charge. When he’s gone and you take over, you know this will be over Emilia. If you accepted me as your mate, this wouldn’t be a problem,” Luke told Emilia.

His words quickly got my attention, and I zeroed in on his face.

“Luke!” Emilia snapped at him.

I knew she was probably trying to get him to shut up, not that the dog was going to listen to her. I didn’t know why Anthony didn’t just get rid of Luke. Luke was nothing but a waste of space.

“Emilia and I are mates, despite how much shit you talk. She won’t leave me for you,” I told him through gritted teeth.

“I’ll help beat him up,” Sebastian casually offered.

Luke glared at Sebastian, before turning back to face me.

“That wasn’t what Emilia said yesterday at the mall,” Luke taunted.

Everything I had been holding back since the beginning of the week, and all the anger I felt yesterday when I saw Emilia with Luke, came out in that moment. I launched myself at him.

When I reached him, Luke stumbled back, before landing on the ground. He had made it too easy for me to pin him down.

I could see in his eyes that he hadn’t expected me to do that. When his friends tried to join the fight, Sebastian stepped in.

“You will regret that,” I told Luke, before raising my fist and smashing it against his jaw.

Luke was left dumbfounded for a few seconds, and I took the opportunity to throw blow after blow. His face was a bloody mess, and he kept grunting from the pain. I knew he would heal, but that didn’t deter me or the speed in which my fist connected with his face.

I heard cries and yelling around me, but I wasn’t sure whose they were from. I just focused on Luke and getting rid of him.

I landed a few more hits before Luke reacted and he threw me off him.

“How did you do that?” He asked, looking like he didn’t believe what had just happened. He spit blood out on the ground, and started touching his face, which had turned a dark red color.

It gave me the opportunity to look around me. Sebastian was fighting against two of Luke’s buddies. Emilia was yelling for us to stop, and she even tried to step in. When she did, I kept her in place with my mind.

She seemed confused and kept trying to fight the hold I had on her. When her eyes landed on me, it almost felt like if she knew what I was doing, that it was me keeping her in place.

“Don’t step-” That was as far as I got before Luke threw a punch in my direction.

His swing had been carrying a lot of force, and I had to shake away the dizziness that took over after the hit. The moment my eyes regained focus, I saw three more guys step in to help Luke.

“Any of you who join Luke will be going against the Alpha, and will get punished,” Emilia warned.

I didn’t catch any of her other words, because I was trying to block Luke from hitting me.

“Enough with this party!” Sebastian yelled, sounding more excited than someone in our position should have been. It was just the two of us against six guys, who had not stepped away despite Emilia’s threat.

Every guy who had been attacking us, however, stood frozen in place.

“What the fuck?” Luke asked, trying to get his body to move.

“What’s happening?” Another guy piped in.

I released Emilia from the hold I had on her, and noticed her body was about to collapse to the ground. I swiftly stepped towards her and caught her. Her face flushed, either from embarrassment or from my touch. It was relieving when she gave me a smile.

For some reason, I had been expecting the worse. After all, she had a right to consider me a freak.

“Where do you want me to put these guys?” Sebastian directed the question at Emilia.

The crowd was looking at Sebastian and me with confusion.

“How are you doing that?” Emilia slowly asked, as she stared at Luke, who was trying to release himself from the hold Sebastian had on him.

I had to admit Sebastian was good. He was holding on to six guys, strong shifters at that, and he wasn’t even cringing. I wasn’t able to have that much control over my telekinesis yet.

“What are you doing to me?” Luke asked in a growl, looking a step away from going Wolf.

“Lukey boy, let the grown-ups talk,” Sebastian told him, giving him a small slap on the cheek.

Luke growled loudly when Seb did that, and he tried to attack Sebastian, not that it got him anywhere. The strain Luke was putting on trying to release himself only exhausted his body.

“Damien, what’s happening?” Emilia asked me.

“I told you I wasn’t human,” I quietly replied, waiting for her to lash out at me for what I was or for keeping it from her all this time.

Instead, she chuckled, which again surprised me.

“I thought you were joking. How are you doing that?” She asked, and frowned when one of the guys tried to shift into his Wolf.

He looked uncomfortable and he hadn’t been able to shift.

“Are you a Werewolf?” I heard someone behind Emilia ask.

I turned towards the girl that had spoken up. It had been Lexi, one of Emilia’s friends.

“I’m not,” I replied.

“Seriously, where do I dump these guys?” Sebastian asked Emilia, looking annoyed with another guy who had passed out after trying really hard to shift.

“Oh, right. We’re taking them to the prison. Randy!” Emilia yelled.

“Alpha,” a boy from the crowd said, stepping into the circle that had been created around us.

“Can you go get my dad and Wayne? They should be at your house.” As soon as she finished giving Randy the order, he took off.

“Who is that?” I asked her.

“That will be your future Beta. His name is Randy, he is Wayne’s son,” Emilia told me.

She gave me a smile, brighter than I had seen these past few days. I wasn’t deserving of it, and I was sure as hell we still had problems. But seeing Emilia not defend Luke was enough to show me that she was not interested in him and that put a stupid smile on my face.

“He’s young,” I commented.

“Randy barely turned thirteen, but he’s going to be strong. And he’s on our side,” Emilia told me.

She looked completely disappointed when she turned towards Luke and the rest of the guys in the circle.

“Lukey here thinks he’s high and mighty, yet there are other Wolves in the pack who outrank him?” Sebastian asked with a laugh, wrapping one of his arms around Luke’s shoulders.

If Luke had been able to move, he would have been murdering Sebastian. But he couldn’t, although he was giving Sebastian a killer look.

“Don’t fucking touch me!” Luke’s words only made Sebastian laugh more.

“You’re right. I don’t want you to rub off your stupidity on me,” Sebastian told him and he made his way towards me.

“Disperse!” The simple order from Emilia was enough to make everyone run away.

It helped that the Alpha was approaching us, with a dangerous look in his eyes. It was the first time I had seen Anthony look threatening.

“What the….” Anthony muttered when he saw the scene in front of him.

“What’s going on?” The man behind the Alpha, who must’ve been Wayne, asked.

Emilia, Randy, Wayne, Anthony, Sebastian, and I were the only ones left, other than the shifters Sebastian was holding.

“I’m not human,” I carefully said, preparing myself for the Alpha’s reaction.

“Is this what you meant?” Anthony asked me.

He was looking at me sternly. He looked worried, although he had no reason to be.

“It is. Sebastian alone was able to control six of your shifters, who raved about their strength, which honestly, is lacking.”

We were in the prison where Sebastian had deposited Luke and the other guys. I was hoping to just get rid of them, but the Alpha had been against the idea.

“What are you?” Anthony asked.

I looked at Emilia, who was standing a few feet away. Sebastian was sitting on a chair, eating a slice of pizza from some boxes that had been ordered.

“We just basically saved your ass and it sounds like you’re accusing Damien of something,” Sebastian commented.

A loud growl erupted from Anthony’s chest, and he made his way towards Sebastian.

“This is my pack, I can manage it,” the Alpha retorted.

“How did you do that back there?” Emilia whispered to me. “I tried to move, and I couldn’t. It was like, I don’t know, it was confusing.”

She closed her eyes for a moment, appearing to be thinking back to what had happened.

“We aren’t going to hurt you or anyone in the pack, if that’s what’s worrying you,” I told Anthony.

Wayne, the Beta, stepped up for the first time since we arrived at the conference room in the prison.

“Are you accepting the Alpha position?” Wayne asked me.

Randy, who was sitting beside him, focused his gaze on me. He was looking at me curiously. I couldn’t help but feel strange to have him there. He was too young to be involved in problems as big as the ones the pack was facing.

“I think I am,” I replied unsurely.

“You didn’t answer my question,” Anthony said.

“We are Legens,” I answered, even though he wouldn’t know anything about us.

“I wasn’t aware there was anything out there other than us,” he commented, sounding awfully confused.

“There isn’t. It’s just you shifters and us,” Sebastian told him.

“Is that how you got that deal with Layton? He is interested in what you are, in your abilities?” Anthony asked.

Everyone except for Sebastian perked up at Anthony’s question. Sebastian took a drink from his coke. Out of everyone in the room, he was the only one who looked relaxed, bored even.

“Layton’s mate, Cassidy, is a Legen as well,” I replied.

Sebastian practically sprayed the soda he had in his mouth, over the floor in front of him.

“What?” He yelled at me.

“I didn’t want to tell you, I wanted to show you,” I replied apologetically.

“So there are more of you?” Emilia asked.

“Cassidy is the only one we know,” I replied.

Sebastian got up from his seat and made his way towards me, looking ready to slap me around for keeping that small piece of information from him.

“This is important Damy. You should have said something right after you arrived this morning.” There was a reproachful tone in his voice, and it honestly made me feel guilty for not telling him before.

“Where does she live?” He asked me.

I didn’t get a chance to reply because he was already waving at Anthony.

“We need to get going,” Sebastian said, attempting to drag me away.

I chuckled at his behavior, but shrugged away from his hold.

“I need to talk with Emilia first,” I said, heaving a sigh.

For a moment I forgot that everyone else was in the room, and I just focused on Emilia, who was looking at me nervously.

“I won’t make a good Alpha,” I admitted.

Emilia’s eyes immediately glassed over and a light tremble took over her lips.

“What are you saying?” She asked in a shaky voice.

“That even if I suck as an Alpha, I’ll try,” I replied with a shrug.

When she smiled at me, the way she had done before, a sense of peace washed over me. Even before yesterday and everything that happened, things had been bad. Everything was messed up, I was messed up.

But for the first time, I felt like I had some sort of purpose by helping the Alpha and Emilia take charge of the pack.

When Emilia made her way towards me and wrapped her arms around my neck, I didn’t push her away. I allowed myself to hold her, and I enjoyed the little electric currents going through us from our bond.

“I love you,” she whispered.

Sebastian loudly cleared his throat and snapped us out of our moment.

“Are you two puppies done?” Sebastian asked us with a teasing grin on his face.

I wasn’t sure why he looked so happy. He had been against Emilia since the day she and I broke it off.

“Calling us dogs is really offensive,” the Alpha told Sebastian with a frown.

He tried to use a reprimanding tone, one that a parent would use, but Sebastian just shrugged it off.

“If I wanted to offend you guys, I would call you dogs,” he replied casually.

His words only made Anthony’s frown deepen.

“Alpha!” A guy yelled after barging into the room.

“What is it?” Anthony asked, quickly slipping into Alpha mode.

“Brian is here,” the guy replied, “and he isn’t alone.”

It took the Alpha a moment for the news to sink in.

“You okay? We’ll take care of this, Alpha,” Wayne reassured Anthony, bowing at him respectfully.

It was all it took for Anthony to start shouting orders and calling men into the conference room we were in.

“Who’s Brian?” Sebastian asked, raising an eyebrow at all the men that were gathering around us.

“He’s our third in command, and Luke’s dad,” Emilia replied gravely.

I stopped her from getting away from me after she disentangled her arms from my neck. She seemed surprised when I interlaced my hand with hers.

“Might as well do this together,” I told her.

“You’re not mad at me anymore?” She asked.

I looked at all the commotion going on around us, and the Alpha who was still shouting orders.

“I don’t think I am,” I replied

“Are you two seriously having this conversation right now?” Sebastian asked, looking between Emilia and me disapprovingly.

Emilia and I grinned at each other, before turning back to Sebastian and nodding.

“Unbelievable. Yesterday you two make it seem like the end of the world and now you’re stuck to each other.” Sebastian shook his head and walked away, muttering curse words about how Wolves were going to change us.

“Do you know what this means?” Anthony asked me on the way to the top floor.

Brian, Luke’s father, was waiting for us outside of the building.

“That we’re fighting again?” I asked.

I was standing next to the Alpha, and Wayne was on his other side. Emilia was holding my hand, but I wanted to keep her out of any fight that went down. Sebastian was pumped up, although I knew it was because he wanted to beat up some Werewolves, it didn’t matter who they were.

“What Sebastian did, making them immobile, is that all you can do?” Anthony asked, his tone showing the seriousness of the situation.

I shook my head at him, but I didn’t elaborate. I couldn’t give him all the details about us, not yet at least. I had to make sure things would work out between Emilia and me. If not, telling them everything Sebastian and I knew about Legens could be used against us.

“What does that matter?” Sebastian interrupted.

“I have a feeling that any Wolf from our pack that doesn’t have faith in Damien and Emilia as Alphas, or in my sanity to lead, will rise up with Brian- today,” the Alpha replied, with a grim expression.

I knew how much this must’ve been hurting him. It was his pack that was falling apart in front of his eyes.
