Chapter 27 – Oakley

Chapter 27 – Oakley

I stand there stunned at the news that Ray just told me. “Wh-w-what do you mean that Levi and my family are here?” My

voice is trembling. My b*dy is shaking. My knees are weak and I’m nearly certain that I would have fallen to the ground had Ray not held me up.

“Wait. Let’s go to my room. I have the feeling this isn’t something that you’re going to want to talk about where other people can hear. He gives a meaningful look behind me and I turn to see Lisa and Harry walking toward the mess hall.

Ray’s right. I don’t want anyone to possibly overhear this. I nod and he puts an arm around my waist to help me to his room.

We hurry down the path, careful to stay out of the way of the other trainees. It takes us on a long way around the campus, around where the higher level trainers live.

I’ve never been on this side of the campus. I’ve had no reason to come over here. We’re skirting the outer edge of their living quarters when I catch the enticing scent of cedar and moss that has my wolf howling in my head and my b*dy longing to follow the scent to its source.

Involuntarily, I stop in the middle of the walking path and scent the air even more, searching for my mate’s scent. I had smelled him when I had been back at my old pack, but it had never been this potent. This heady. This demanding

It must be because my wolf has come back stronger. Now that I’m more of a wolf, I can smell him more and it’s starting to break down my resolve.

tin

That’s when Ray shoves his wrist under my nose. It’s a pulse point and it will be one of the most potent places for his scent. And just like that, Levi’s scent is replaced by one of lemon and rosemary. Of course I’ve smelled Ray before. I mean, how many times have we f ucked by now? How many nights have we slept in each other’s arms? But it’s only been the fresh scent of lemon that I’ve smelled before. Only a mate is able to smell both scents on a wolf. That rosemary scent should only be for the one that the Moon Goddess has fated him to.

My eyes dart to his and he seems to know what’s happening. His eyes go wide and then a huge smile comes over his face. He’s my mate? How can he be my mate? How am I only just realizing it? Did he know and didn’t say anything?

But he seems to want me. I mean, we’ve been together nearly every night for almost the entire time that I’ve been here. Was he waiting for me to figure it out? Is this what Mom was talking about when she said that I had another mate? So. Many Questions!

“Finally Ray breathes out fiercely and then pulls me into his arms, k*ssing me passionately.

My mind is reeling, freaking out that not only do I have two mates, but Ray has been one of them all along and has seemed to have known about it for I don’t know how long. Oh, and the mate that I rejected, but still haven’t broken away from because he hasn’t rejected me, is here for Goddess knows only what reason. And my wolf seems to be freaking out and wanting both of them. Yeah, I’m having a lot of trouble reconciling all of that.

But my b*dy doesn’t seem to get the memo as I melt into Ray’s and sparks that I hadn’t ever felt before from his touch bloom across my skin. I can’t help the moan that falls from my l*ps and he growls into mouth as he gathers me into his arms. can feel his erection against my front and my arousal swirls around us.

Somehow the short circuit in my brain connects and I manage to pull away from Ray’s k*ss. “Wait! How? When? Why didn’t you say anything?”

“Come on. Let’s go to my room and I’ll explain everything.” he says, lust swirling in his deep brown eyes.

I can still smell Levi’s scent, but it isn’t as overpowering as it was before. Or should I say, it’s as equally as powerful as Ray’s. I don’t know, my b*dy is having a lot of difficulty deciding what to do about having two scents that are pulling me in two different directions. It’s a good thing that Ray is ushering me towards his room, cause I would be stuck in the middle of the sidewalk

otherwise.

But it’s hard for me to keep going, the smell of Levi still calling me to him.

“Let me help you out, my love,” Ray smiles at me. He picks me up bridal style and jogs as he takes me to his room. We’re there in a matter of minutes.

And I’m once again overwhelmed by his scent. I don’t even know if the door is closed before I’ve wrapped my arms around his n*eck and am k*ssing and sucking at the place his matemark will go.

“F uck!” he cries out and we’re suddenly across the room on his bed. Ray is between my legs, pressing me into the mattress as he grinds his erection against my core.

I wrap my legs around him and I think my arousal has soaked through as I grind against him. Our tongues fight for dominance as my hands try to literally rip the clothes from his b*dy. His mouth moves from mine to my breasts that he just

exposed.

“Ray! Oh, f uck! How…yes! Suck harder!…are you my mate? I moan.

“Can we talk about that later, baby?” Ray says around my n*pple in his mouth. “I’m a little busy right now.” Just then, his hand plunges inside of my leggings and into my panties. “Goddess, you’re so wet for me, Oakley.” He pushes my panties aside

and then pushes two fingers inside of me.

I moan as my hips move beneath him, starting to f u ck myself on his fingers. “Ray it’s getting harder and harder for me to remember that I need to talk to him about something. Something important. The urge to be with him as my mate is

overpowering.

And that’s when I remember. My mate. How is he my mate?

“Ray, wait! Wait! What’s going on? We have to talk. Talk first, f uck later,” I moan, trying to push him off of me.

The second I tell him to stop, he does. He moves his hands from my pants and lets my n*pple fall from his mouth. He leans

his forehead against my chest and breathes heavily for a few seconds before rolling off of me. Staring up at the ceiling, he adjusts himself so that everything is covered and I do the same

We each take several deep breaths in an attempt to calm down. It helps in one sense, because we aren’t touching each

other. At the same time, though, it’s pulling more of our scents into the other’s lungs, which definitely makes us want to touch

each other more. But I need to hear what he has to say.

“Why are my

family and Levi here?” I ask, starting

ing with the easiest part.

Still not looking at me, Ray responds, “They tracked you here. Apparently your brothers and father weren’t giving up on you.

You do know that this was something that the Goddess pushed them to do, right?”

“Yeah, I say. “My mother came to me in a dream.”

He nods as if that’s the most normal thing ever. “Well, apparently they left the pack to find you, used your ex-mate’s resources in fact, but didn’t tell him. They told Sophia that they were going to convince you to run with them. To get away from Levi. But, Levi apparently had his beta follow your brother and brought him here. They are here to bring you back home.”

I sit there in silence for a beat/trying to take this all in. “So how are you my mate, too? Levi didn’t reject me. Our matebond isn’t over. Oh, sh it! He just felt that, didn’t he?”

“For one, after all the shi t that he put you through, I don’t give a sh it about whether he feels pain or not. And for two, I’m your second chance mate. You can feel me because you have a choice. Normally the old bond would have had to be broken before we would feel each other, but because of you being a descendent of the Moon Goddess, you get different rules. You can be with him or me. Or you can stay here and become part of the Elite 10. His last sentence was said in a low tone, letting me know he

really didn’t want me to do that.

“Wait. How do you know all this? And when did you find out that you were my mate?” I ask, finally looking at him.

“I’ve known my whole life that I would be in the service of the Moon Goddess. It was only when I finished my training and

went to see the oracle that I knew that I would be fated to one of the Elite 10 trainees. That’s why I’m here. To give you your

choice. I’ve known that you were mine since you walked into the castle that first day,” Ray says, turning to me and brushing my

hair off of my cheeks.

But I pull away. “So why didn’t you tell me? Why have you let me continue to have those dreams from Levi, feeling like I’m not worth anything? You could have wiped all of that out of my head just by telling me.” I don’t know why I’m as upset as I am. I guess I feel betrayed again. Like this is another rejection. The same as I got from Levi. I’m good enough to f uck, but not good

enough to be his mate. That thought has me standing up from the bed, my hands clenched at my sides.

The look on Ray’s face is one of pure terror. I think he can tell where my thoughts are going and he’s getting upset about it himself. “Oakley, I had to wait. You had to figure it out for yourself that I was your mate. If I had told you and you didn’t feel it, you would have pushed me away. You know that you wouldn’t have believed me. And don’t you see how much I want you? I

would never reject you.” His voice is a plea, begging me to believe him.

But I can’t push down the thought that he wasn’t going to accept me. That he was using me, just as Levi had planned on

doing. Levi was just more upfront about it.

“How did you know all that stuff about my family and about Levi? How do you even know he’s my mate? I’ve only told the full story to Cassie and I know for a fact that she didn’t tell anyone,” I seethe through my teeth.

The terror on his face only deepens and I see another emotion as well. Shame. “The Elite 10 trainers have been watching

all of the wolves that were possible candidates for the Elite 10. They know everything about you. Everything that Levi did-”

“So you’ve been spying on me. You know everything about me and I barely know anything about you other than how you

f uck,” I spit at him.

“Oakley, it’s not like that. I love you,” he pleads, crawling on his knees across the bed and reaching out his hands to try to

touch me.

I bat his hands away. “I don’t know if anything you’re saying is true. I don’t know anything about love. From what happened with my family, my pack, and my ex-mate, I’ve never truly experienced love. But I do know manipulation. That’s what my brothers and father tried to do to me. That’s what my as shole of an alpha mate did to me. Tried to manipulate and use me just

like you’re trying to do right now.” I turn and stomp to the door, leaving him to chase after me. I spin around at the last second.

“At least they were upfront about what they wanted from me.”

He stares at me, a broken look on his face. But I can’t bring myself to comfort him as my whole world falls apart for the fourth time in my life. My mother’s leaving. My wolf not showing up. My family and mate treating me like dirt. And now Ray, my

second chance at lifelong love and happiness, deceiving me.

A lone tear breaks free from my eyes, even though I was trying not to cry. “Don’t talk to me outside of training. I don’t want to see you for a while.” Islam the door as I run back to the training field.
