Chapter 25
Will tells his followers that he and Amy will be going on a road trip to find Jessie and Hal. They should be back in a few months. Bruce and Bob are to manage the group, while John and Jen run the apartment complex and businesses. They say their goodbyes and on the way out the door, Pastor Jones meets them. He is concerned about Will straying from the tasks that the Lord has given him. Will assures him that he is still gathering the tools. He tells the pastor about Hal and Jessie and how he has to find out what has happened to them.
The trip to Kansas City is pretty uneventful. Amy keeps in touch with the others via telepathy and Will drives. His mind is constantly active with thoughts of others. It seems many people around the world are searching for him. The word is spreading that Will needs their help.
During one of the overnight stops, Amy tells Will about the progress and influx of people at Paradise. They are running out of space at the complex and Bruce is looking for more land to develop. Bruce figures that by the time they build something, it will have to house another 4000 or more. Amy thinks that perhaps they need to rethink having everyone come to Paradise. Will adds it to his list.
They arrive in Kansas City and Will realizes that there is one task he cannot perform. He cannot sense other telepathically. Finding Jessie and Hal will be left to Amy. Over the next few days, Amy and Will drive around Kansas City with no luck. Amy has found other telepaths, but no sign of Jessie or Hal. They ask the other followers if they have any clue where they might have headed. Bruce says that they were heading to her grandparents outside of Kansas City. Amy gets online and soon finds an address for Jessie’s grandparents. They head out to the farm.
“Mrs. Kline, my name is Will Smythe and I am a friend of Jessie’s. Is she or Hal here?”
“Oh my, no. They haven’t been here in weeks. Jessie told me she and Hal had some things to do in the city and left, maybe 3 weeks ago.”
“Thank you. We must have missed them. Jessie told me they had a place to stay, but didn’t give me an address. Do you have it?”
“I’m sorry, I don’t. I didn’t know they had a place. When you find them, please have Jessie call me. I worry about that girl. Since her parents separated, she has been in nothing but trouble.”
“Well, we will find her. I’m sure they are just busy right now. I’ll have her call.”
Will senses that something isn’t right. There is some illness or something. He can’t put a finger on it.
“Mrs. Kline, I know this isn’t my business, but are you or Mr. Kline okay? I have a six sense and it is on edge, which I have come to believe, happens when someone is ill or troubled.”
“Oh, Mr. Kline has hurt his back. He refuses to see a doctor. If he doesn’t get better soon, the crops won’t be planted in time.”
“May I see him?”
“I don’t want to bother you, young folks. He will be fine.”
“Please, it is no bother.”
“Okay, come in,” Mrs. Kline opens the door and leads them into the living room. Mr. Kline is in his recliner. “Sweetheart, this is Will Smythe, he is a friend of Jessie’s.”
“Jessie is not here.”
“Yes, sir, we know. I understand you hurt your back. I have some experience with that kind of injury. Mind if I take a quick look?”
“You can’t help, it will take care of itself in a few days.”
Will decides to just have him agree and plants the thought in his mind. He also has Mrs. Kline get a warm, wet cloth.
With some help, Mr. Kline stands up. Will places his hands on the lower back and the pain goes away. But there is another problem. Mr. Kline has cancer of the liver and neither he nor Mrs. Kline knows it.
Will tells Amy and asks her to see if any of the followers know anything about farming. He would like to have some people come here to help with the planting.
“Mr. Kline, this should help. Put this warm cloth on your back and the pain should go away. You have a lump on your back that you should have looked at as soon as possible. At your age, you don’t want to take anything for granted. After all, you want to be around for Mrs. Kline as long as possible, don’t you?”
“Don’t you young kids beat all, you come in here like you know everything. Okay, I will see a doctor. Now you just git, I have work to do.”
“Yes, we have work to do as well. You take care of that back. Mrs. Kline, thank you for the information on Jessie. We will have her call as soon as we find her. Make sure Mr. Kline has his back looked at. Tell the doctor to check his liver as well. That lump might mean something.”
“He will see the doctor tomorrow. Thank you.”
As they leave Amy tells Will that there are several dozen farmers in the group. Six of them are leaving today to come help. Bruce is having them fly in. They should be here tomorrow.
“That will make for a nice surprise for the Kline’s.”
As they drive back into town, Amy continues to try to contact Jessie. Finally, they connect. Hal and Jessie are in jail, in isolation. After a few minutes, Amy tells Will that they were practicing and got out of hand. People were hurt and they were seen using their hands as if using witchcraft. When the police went to take them away, Hal tried to use his powers on the officers. They overpowered him and put them in jail. They have been there for a few days with no human contact at all. Meals are delivered via a robot. Everyone is staying away from them.
They arrive at the police station. As they approach the front desk, Amy asks Will what they are going to do.
“Well, first, I want to get them released. Then take them back to the Kline’s‘. After that, I am not sure.”
“Good Afternoon, Officer, I am looking for a couple of friends of mine and have been told they might be here.”
“What are their names?”
“Jessie Kline and Hal Wolf.”
“Just a minute.” The officer types in the names into the computer and then makes a phone call. “A detective will be down shortly. Have a seat.”
After about 20 minutes, a detective comes over to talk to them.
“I’m Detective Swan. I understand you are here about Kline and Wolf. What is your relationship with them?”
“We are friends of theirs. We haven’t heard from them in a few days and decided to find out what happened to them. Last, we were able to determine was they were at the park over the weekend and some people said they were taken away by the police after some kind of incident. Are they here?”
“Yes, they are. We have them in protective custody.”
Will knows this is a cover story.
“We would like to see them. Are they being charged with anything?”
“There are no charges at this time. I don’t think they can have visitors, either. It is for their safety. After all, how do we know you are friends and not here to harm them in some way?”
“You could ask them if they know us and want to talk to us. Also, isn’t it illegal to hold someone against their will without charging them with a crime? Perhaps we should get a lawyer.”
“Let me see what I can do. This might take some time. Give the desk your contact information when I find something out, I will have them call you.”
“Okay, in the meantime, I think we will find a lawyer to help move things along.”
Amy gives the desk officer their contact information and they leave. There is a bail bondsman across the street, Amy goes in to find a good lawyer. Within a few minutes, they have an appointment with the lawyer.
That evening, Jessie and Hal are released. Will and Amy are waiting for them.
“Thank you for freeing us. No one would talk to us or provide any information. We couldn’t even make a phone call,” says Hal.
They get into the car and head to the Kline’s’.
“Jessie, we were to see your grandparents today. Your grandfather is ill. He has cancer, but they do not know it yet. They are going to need some help and I think you two should stick around and help for a while.”
“How do you know it is cancer? I thought he had hurt his back.” Jessie starts crying. “Can you help him? You saved Amy; can’t you do something for him? They are all I have left.”
“Let’s see what the doctors say. Your grandmother said she would get him to a doctor tomorrow. You may want to take them. Make sure the doctor looks at the lump on his back that should point to cancer. It is pretty advanced, but modern medicine can do a lot for cancer today.”
“Will, I will give anything to save my grandfather.”
“I know, Jessie, I will see what I can do, if needed.”
They drop Jessie and Hal off at the Kline’s’. Will tells the Kline’s that he has a surprise in store for them tomorrow afternoon. After saying their goodbyes, Amy and Will head back to the campground, promising to return the next afternoon.
The next day, Jessie takes her grandparents to the doctor’s office. The doctor listens to the story and looks over Mr. Kline. Just to make sure the doctor does the test; Jessie plants the thought of cancer in the doctor’s mind. The doctor orders an MRI and the results are relayed later that morning. It is advanced cancer of the liver and surrounding organs. The prognosis is not good. The doctor feels he has less than 6 months to live. The mood at the Kline’s’ that afternoon is not very good.
Jessie begs Will to cure her grandfather.
“Please, Will, cure my grandfather! You promised you would help!”
Mrs. Kline overhears the crying and comes in, as Jessie is pleading with Will.
“Jessie honey, Mr. Smythe is not a miracle worker, he cannot cure your grandfather.”
“Grandmamma, you don’t know what this man can do. He is the Second Coming of Christ.”
“Jessie, now STOP! I will not have that kind of talk in this house.”
“Will, tell her,” says Amy.
Will looks at them.
“Mrs. Kline, your husband is very ill. You may have heard in church or on TV about a man who can raise the dead or even cause death. You may have also heard from the church that there is a man they are calling the Second Coming of Christ.”
Mrs. Kline says “Yes, we have heard about Him in church.”
Will says, “I am that man. I do not know if I can help him or not. I have found that God has given me some abilities that are beyond my comprehension. I have been given a mission by God to save mankind and if it is within my power and God wills it, I will do my best to cure your husband.”
Mrs. Kline passes out. When she comes to, they are all seated in the living room. Mr. Kline is by his wife’s side. Jessie and Hal are at the end of the sofa. Amy is by Will’s side. Will is standing, looking down on the grandparents.
“Mr. Kline, you know me as Will Smythe, others are calling me the …”
Just then there is a knock at the front door. Mr. Kline goes and answers it. He returns with 8 people; their pastor of a Catholic Church. Bruce and 6 of the followers.
The pastor says, “These folks are here to help you with the planting, Josh.”
“What? I can’t afford to hire help! I’m sorry but you will have to go.”
“Josh, they are here to help free of charge. They heard you are ill and the Lord has answered your wife’s prayer.”
Mr. Kline looks at his wife, lying on the sofa and then looks around the room and tears come to his eyes. He kneels down next to his wife and begins to pray. The room is silent. After a few minutes, he stands and welcomes his new friends.
Finally, he turns to Will and says, “You were going to tell me something, please, what was it?”
Will looks around the room and begins.
“Mr. Kline, have you heard in church or on the news about a man they are calling the Second Coming of Christ?”
“Yes, we have talked about it at church, haven’t we, Father?”
“Yes, his tales, are spreading around the country. There is even talk that Paradise, CO is his home now. People have been coming to church and filling it to capacity.” says the Father.
“There is no easy way for me to say this. I have fought it for a couple of years now, but,” Will pauses for a few seconds, “I am the one they are calling the Second Coming of Christ.”
There is total silence in the room. The old commercial you could hear a pin drop, well, in that room you could hear a pin drop on carpet. Finally, the Father looks up and says, “Is it true, are you the Second Coming of Christ?”
“Is it true that I am called the Second Coming of Christ? Yes, am I Christ? No. I am a man that God has given the tools required and a mission to perform. I am here to save mankind and if God so wills, that mission starts here today.”
Will then turns to Mr. Kline.
“Sir, your granddaughter, and wife have asked me to heal you if I can. I know you have cancer and do not have long to live. If you would like, I can try to heal you.”
With tears in his eyes, he holds his wife’s hand and looks at Jessie, then says, “I am not a worthy man to receive such a gift from God, but if it is his will, I will do my best to make sure he is glorified every day.”
With that, Will places his right hand on Josh’s stomach and closes his eyes. Those in the room see a warm glow build around the hand. After several seconds, the glow disappears and Will drops his hand.
“Josh.” is all Will can say. He turns around and walks out the door. The mission to save mankind has begun.
The next day, Mr. and Mrs. Kline and Jessie are at the doctor. In the waiting room are Bruce and the Father. It took some convincing by Jessie for the doctor to order a new MRI. The results come back “Normal”, no cancer anywhere.
“Josh, I don’t understand it. Yesterday, your MRI showed advanced stages of cancer that had spread to your lungs and kidneys. Today, there is no sign of cancer anywhere. How?”
“I was touch by the Second Coming of Christ!” replies Josh with tears in his eyes and a new lease on life.
They walk into the waiting room and cheers erupt from those waiting. The Father goes to the doctor.
“Doctor, what did you find?”
“Father, I found nothing. No cancer anywhere. It is a miracle. I have no other explanation.”
As the Father walks out of the office, he gets his cell phone. A miracle has just happened and the Catholic Church needs to know. News of the miracle reaches the Pope within hours. Another sign that Will Smythe IS the Second Coming of Christ. The Pope calls the President of the United States, who is a friend, to fill him in on this latest news.
After the phone call, the President calls his Chief of Staff.
“Find out where Will Smythe is and arrange a meeting where ever he wants.”
“Mr. President, that is highly unorthodox. Presidents do not go to a meeting with a citizen, they come to him.”
“This man, this US Citizen, just cured a man of terminal cancer; the Catholic Church calls him the Second Coming of Christ. You do not have a Son of God come to you, you go to him. Do it!”
“Yes, Sir, right away. Do you have any idea where to find him?”
“Start in Kansas City or Paradise, CO.”
With that, the Chief of Staff leaves to find out where in the world Will Smythe is. His first call is to the FBI Director.
News spreads in Kansas City, newspapers, TV, radio and by word of mouth. Thousands of people flock to the Kline’s’ waiting to see and touch the man that was saved by the Second Coming of Christ. Amy wants to leave the area before they find Will, but he is not done here. Something must be done about Jessie and Hal. They cannot use their powers like little children in a playground.
Will contacts Jessie and Hal and has them meet him at the police station parking lot, alone.
A little while later the four of them meet in the parking lot.
“Jessie and Hal, your use of your powers cannot continue this way. These are gifts from God to be used to help mankind, not as a toy.”
“WOW, right to the point, I see, Will,” complains Hal.
“Hal, Will is right. We were playing with people’s lives, with no regard to the effect on them or others. We were lucky that more people weren’t hurt,” says Jessie.
“Just who do you think you are to be telling me what I can or cannot do? Either of you?” yells Hal.
Amy tries to calm Hal down, “Hal, did you enjoy your time in jail? Our actions have consequences.”
“Well, I like being able to control people and you know what? There is nothing you can do about it! You may be known as the Second Coming of Christ, Will, but I know you are nothing more than a man with a bit higher capabilities than me. But, as we discussed before, none of us can use our powers against the other, so I guess this is nothing more than a disagreement. You do what you want and I will do what I want.”
“You have been given a chance to see it the Lord’s way. You have refused. So, we will be departing company. I am sorry, Hal.”
Will, puts out his hand to Hal. When Hal takes his hand, he is knocked to the ground, his powers are gone. He is just a normal human being and will never be able to control another human or animal again. Will, Amy, and Jessie leave Hal in the parking lot. He will never remember his time among the chosen.
Jessie almost immediately feels the difference in Hal.
“Will, what happened to Hal?”
“He is no longer one of us.”
They drive in silence back to Jessie’s grandparent’s house.
As they arrive, Will sees the huge crowd. He simply tells them all to go home and they soon disperse.
Once inside, Will pulls Jessie aside.
“Jessie, you are on probation so to speak. You are to help your grandparents and when the time comes, I will call you. Failure to follow these instructions will result in you losing your abilities. Do you understand?”
“Yes, sir. I understand fully.”
Over the next few days, things are quiet on the farm. With the help of the other followers, Mr. Kline is able to plant his fields, tend to the livestock and fully recover. The only visitor is the Father from the church. By the end of the week, Will and Amy are ready to head back to Colorado. As they are saying their goodbyes, there is a knock on the door.
Two men in black suits and ties are standing there when Mr. Kline answers the door.
“Mr. Kline? We are from the FBI” they show their badges. “We are looking for a Mr. Smythe. Would you know where he is?”
Will overhears the conversation. He can sense no danger as they are not here to arrest him. In fact, they want to pass a message to him.
“I am Will Smythe,” Will says as he approaches the door.
“Will, these men are from the FBI!”
“Yes, Josh, I know. It is okay. Why don’t you go into the living room with the others? It is okay.”
Josh leaves Will and the FBI agents alone.
“Sir, we have a message from the President of the United States. He would like a meeting with you at your convenience and location of your choice.”
“I see. Since you don’t know why I won’t ask. I need to think about this. Is there a number I can call?”
“You can call the White House switchboard anytime, day or night. Is there a message we can deliver to the President?”
“Just tell him I will be in touch. Thank you!”
As the FBI agents leave, the parlor fills with everyone that was in the house. Amy already knows what happened, but the others are very curious.
“Well, the President of the United States would like to meet with me. Amy and I have a bit of traveling to do. Thank you for your hospitality. Mr. and Mrs. Kline, I hope you will have a great harvest. Perhaps you will be able to share it with others. Father, I think you will have a full church this week. Good luck. Bruce, how long will you be staying here?”
“I will head home after service on Sunday. Is there anything you need me to do when I get back?”
“Yes, make sure everything is in order. Contact the mayor and police chief and ask them to meet with me next Friday. Also, you might want to get with Pastor Jones, he is going to have some important company in a couple of weeks.”
With that, Will and Amy say their goodbyes and head back to the campground. The next day they head back to Paradise. Amy starts the trip out as the driver so Will can make some phone calls. The first call is to the White House.
The Chief of Staff answers the call and says the President is busy. Will tells him that he will be available in two weeks over the weekend in Paradise, CO. Being a self-important man, the Chief tells Will that that is unacceptable, the President can’t just drop everything to fly to CO on short notice. Will laughs and tells him, to have the President call when he has the time and hangs up.
Naturally, Amy only heard half the conversation and wanted to know why he was laughing. Will tells her that the President’s Chief of Staff says he is too busy to come on short notice. It was the President that said anytime and anywhere. Will is still smiling.
Turns out the President wasn’t really busy at all. He was reviewing some legislation when the Chief of Staff came in to tell him that Will had called and wanted him to fly to CO for the meeting.
“When am I supposed to be there?”
“I told him you were busy and could not make the meeting on short notice.”
“You WHAT?”
“Mr. President, you are a very busy man. You cannot make changes to your schedule like that!”
“You call him back and make whatever arrangements need to be made to get me to that meeting. If you can’t handle that, I will find someone who can. DO I MAKE MYSELF CLEAR?”
“Mr. President, it is my job to manage your time and appointments. You simply cannot do this. If you want, he can come here and I will find some time in your schedule to meet with him, maybe after hours if need be.”
With that, the President picks up the phone and tells the secretary to send in an agent.
The door opens almost immediately with 2 Secret Service Agents rushing into the room.
“Please escort the Former Chief of Staff to his office, he is to clear out his desk and be escorted from the White House.”
“Mr. President, you cannot fire me just like that!”
“I just did.”
“Please come with us, sir,” one of the agents says, taking the former Chief of Staff by the arm.
As they close the door, the President picks up the phone and asks the secretary to come in.
“Please find a number for Mr. Will Smythe. Call him and find out the details of the meeting that were proposed. When you have it, make sure the Secret Service is aware of the new travel plans and set it all up. Also, until further notice, you are my temporary Chief of Staff.”
Within an hour of Will’s phone call to the White House, his phone rings.
“Hello?”
“Please hold for the President of the United States.”
“Mr. Smythe? This is the President of the United States, sir.”
“Hello, Mr. President. How are you today?”
“Mr. Smythe, I want to apologise for the misunderstanding. My former Chief of Staff didn’t fully understand my instructions. I understand that you would like to meet in Paradise, CO. Please tell me what day you want to meet?”
“If you are available, sir, we can meet on Sunday, the week after next.”
“That will be fine. The Secret Service will be in touch. Is there someone that can work out the details?”
“They can call me on this number. I will be back in town in a few days.”
“Thank you, Mr. Smythe. Someone will be in touch.”
With that, the connection is broken. Will lets out a whistle.
Normally Amy and Will drive for a few hours and stop for a couple of days. Due to the nature of the trip, they drive until dusk and leave in the morning. They arrive in Paradise two days later.
Bruce and Bob meet them in the parking lot.
“Bruce, please gather the others into the auditorium as soon as possible. The President will be here in a couple of weeks. Will the mayor and police chief be here tomorrow?”
“Yes, they will be here around 10 am”
“Thank you.”
The next morning, Will meets with the followers. He tells them of the events in Kansas City, except about Hal, as well as the upcoming visit by the President of the United States. Pastor Jones is also in attendance. Will, Amy, Bruce, Bob, Jennifer, John, and the Pastor meet after the meeting.
“Pastor, I am glad you came. You now know most of what has happened. Bruce and Bob tell me that we have had contact with people from around the world who are telepathic and have some level of ability similar to the others here. From what we have found out, many can control small groups or individuals.”
“Yes, I have been aware of the growing numbers. It is you however, that has grown. You have taken the next step in fulfilling your mission from God. Tell me, why did you choose to save Mr. Kline?”
“Jessie, one of the original followers, asked me too and something told me it was the right thing to do.”
“Yes and what about Hal?”
Will looks around the room and queries the others; no one has said a word.
“Pastor, you amaze me. No one here has said anything about Hal. Yet, you not only know of him, but I also suspect that you know what happened to him as well.”
“I am here to help in any way that I can. Knowing what is happening to you is my mission. I also know what is going to happen in a general sense. Will, you are going to experience a major change. Your destiny will become clearer very soon.”
“Pastor, how is it that you know so much about Will and of the followers and, yet you are not one of us?” asked Amy.
“God works in many ways. Most of the time, we are not even aware of his hand in the events of our lives. Several years ago, I had a vision from God. He told me of a man that would do great things. This man will save the world. He also told me that I am to help this man in many ways. Like Will, I was given some tools to help me with my tasks. One of them is my connection with Will. What he sees and does, I am aware of.”
The group continues to question the pastor, yet he will give no further information. They move onto a problem that is bothering Will. How will he be able to talk to or control all of the followers around the world?
“We know we can communicate with those that we have met. But how can we meet all of these new people?” asked Bob.
“Will can control people on the TV as long as they are live. Perhaps he can communicate with them as well?” says Jennifer.
“That wouldn’t work. Many people do not have TV let alone have access to it at a time that would work. Will would have to be on the air 24 hours a day, possibly for weeks to get in touch with everyone, even if it works” says John.
“Could we set up a chain of command of some sort?” asked Amy.
“It would be too huge and take too long to pass the information” answer Will.
“The Lord will provide the answer, Will. Just wait for it, it will come soon,” says Bruce. The pastor nods his head, stands up and leaves the meeting.
The time seems to fly for the followers. Will meets with the mayor and chief of police. They are told of the President’s visit. Extra police and emergency services are scheduled. The Secret Service arrives a week ahead of the meeting and rooms are secured, security sweeps are done and Presidential communications set up. Because there is no airport close by, Air Force One will land in Denver and the President will use helicopters to travel between Denver and Paradise. The President will arrive on Saturday and attend church with Will on Sunday before their meeting.
Everyone has been so busy that Amy and Will have not had much time together. During lunch, on Saturday they finally spend some time eating and get a chance to talk.
“Amy, I am so sorry for the way the last couple of months have been. I thought that once we got the government to leave us alone, we would just travel and be with each other.”
“Will, in case you haven’t realized it yet, you are a very important person now. You are on a mission from God. I am just along for the ride.”
“Oh, no. You are more than just along for the ride. You are my soul mate. I need you to keep me grounded.”
“Sweetheart, you don’t need me, you may want me, but you don’t need me. You are the Second Coming of Christ. A man with a mission from God to save mankind.”
“Oh, honey, please don’t say things like that. I am not Christ. I need you more today than ever. I love you, more than you will ever know.”
“I love you as well, Will. After all of this is over, maybe we can find some time to be together and bring a Will, Jr. into this new world that you will create.”
“You want to have a child! That is great! We will start right after the President leaves.” Will feels like he is on cloud nine. A family, not since his first wife died, has he thought about having kids. There is a glow around Will as he finishes lunch and it isn’t from his powers.
As he and Amy are finishing lunch, there is a knock on their door.
“Mr. Smythe, this is Agent Johnson, the President is on his way from Denver. He should be touching down in about 10 minutes,” the agent calls through the door.
Will and Amy finish lunch and Will contacts the staff via telepathy. By the time the President helicopter sets down, everyone is in position to welcome him.
As the President departs Marine One, he is greeted by Amy, Will, Bruce, Bob, Jennifer, John, Pastor Jones, the Mayor and the Chief of Police. They are escorted into Will’s Apartment for a short private meeting and then into a meeting room for a private dinner. With the President are the First Lady, their 14-year-old son and several staff members, the Presidential News Corps and security.
“Mr. and Mrs. Smythe, I want to thank you for taking the time to meet with me. My family and I are most honored.”
“Thank you, Mr. President. We are glad that you could come to Paradise. Everything is ready for tomorrow morning and our meeting in the afternoon. If you don’t mind, after dinner, we would like you to tour our facility. The mayor also would be pleased if you could find some time to be shown around Paradise. Amy and I will meet with you and your family for breakfast and church services,” says Will.
After dinner, Amy, Will and the other followers leave the President in the hands of the Mayor and the other politicians. That night, Will keeps his promise to Amy to start a family.
Breakfast and church services are a private affair. Before the meeting with the President, a request for a few minutes of time for the press is granted. The meeting is private and only the President, his advisers, Will and the original followers meet for a couple of hours. The discussion is around what the President can do to aid the Second Coming of Christ. Will still doesn’t like the title but does realize that by having the US Government on board, he can spread the message that much quicker.
“Mr. President, I am grateful for the offer of assistance. I feel the best thing that we could do is to address a joint session of Senate and House to lay out the platform and to televise it live to the American people” suggested Will.
After checking with his advisers, the President says “That sounds like a good idea. When would you like to address Congress?”
“Congress is due back from summer recess in a few weeks. That would be a good time before they get down to business.”
“We will set that up and let you know the date and time. I am glad that we will be able to help you with your mission. Thank you for meeting with me. If there is anything that I or my office can do, please do not hesitate to ask.”
“Thank you, Mr. President. I look forward to speaking with Congress and the American People.”
As the meeting is coming to a close, there is a knock on the door. A Secret Service agent comes in and whispers’ to the President. The Governor of Colorado is here. As the agent leaves, the Governor of Colorado is shown in and introductions are made. The Governor is upset that he knew nothing of this meeting and that the President of the United States was in his state without so much of a hello.
Will quickly takes control and changes the tune of the Governor. Within seconds the mood changes and all is forgiven.
“Governor, I apologise for the oversight, I am new to the political arena and was not aware of the different protocols,” says Will.
“No, I am the one that should apologise, I acted like a fool. I have the President of the United States talking to one of my greatest citizens and I wanted to be part of it. Will, please accept my apology,” states the governor.
“Looks like no harm has been done, perhaps, Will can also speak to the assembly of Colorado. He has some great things to accomplish and I am sure the people of Colorado would be more than happy to hear about them,” says the President.
No one even notices that Amy has been working behind the scene and planted the thoughts into both the Governor’s and the President’s minds.
“That would be an excellent idea. Would you mind, Will?” asks the Governor.
After some more small talk, they all depart. There is a live press conference with the President, Governor and Will discussing the upcoming plans. All the major news outlets have interrupted the normal shows to carry the news conference with the Second Coming of Christ. Will tries something new. He sends out a message to all those that are watching, “Do unto others as you would have them do unto you!”
That evening, the news stations around the Country are reporting acts of kindness and bravery around their viewing area. People are actually helping those in need. Motorists are stopping to help those that are broken down and offering rides to those that are walking. Many charities are reporting that they have received pledges of help from all sectors of the community. It seems that Will has another way of spreading the word.
