Chapter 18
“Hello, Lou Pickerelli and Associates, Daisy speaking, how can I help you?”
Will had forgotten about Daisy working there. Telepathically, tells Amy to ask for Lou and hands her the phone.
Amy does as Will asks with a questioning look on her face. “Hello, could I talk to Lou, please. This is Amy Smith.”
“Hello, Amy. Are you a current client of ours?”
“No, Lou helped a friend of mine and I am in need of some legal expertise.”
“One moment please and I will see if he can take the call.”
“Hello, Lou Pickerelli here. Is this Amy?”
Amy hands the phone to Will.
“Hello, Lou?”
“Yes, who is this?”
“Lou, its Will Smythe. I need your help. Sorry for the confusion. Amy is my fiancé. I had forgotten that Daisy worked there and had Amy ask for you.”
“WILL! So good to hear from you. How are you? How are things going with the FBI? Oh and congratulations on the upcoming marriage.”
“I am doing great and thanks. Amy is a great woman and we are great together. As for the FBI, that is why I am calling. I need a lawyer.”
“Oh? What happened?”
“It’s a long story. Do you have some time for the background or should I be talking to someone else?”
“Give me a minute to make sure nothing interrupts us. Hold on.” Lou calls Daisy and tells her to hold any calls. “Okay, Will, what is going on?”
“Well, you remember my problem before I went to the FBI. They didn’t really believe me and then I proved myself with a couple of experiments and the saving of the Washington Monument. Did you hear about that a few years ago?”
“Yes, some terrorists were going to bomb the monument and you stopped them as well as an airplane or something.”
“Yes. Well after that I was supposed to work with the State Department. In the meantime, the President decided that I was a danger to the USA and wanted me terminated. You may remember that he died of a heart attack during a press conference.”
“Yes, I do recall that. Only like the ninth President to die in office.”
“Well, let’s just say that he didn’t die of natural causes. Once he put out the contract on me, it was the only way I could see to stop the ball from rolling. Kimberly was the go-between for the President. He resigned and the President died which put an end to my working with the government. After that, the agent assigned to me knew I wanted to disappear and told the FBI that I was dead. That lie was coming back to haunt her and she had a couple of FBI friends try to kill me as well. They died of natural causes. For a couple of years, everything was fine until I made the news while working with some animals in Colorado.
Apparently, Mr. Comely saw the show and recognized me. He sent a dozen agents to bring me in. Apparently, he still doesn’t believe my skills and I escaped again. No one was injured, but he has put together enough information that he wants me out of the way. He is accusing me of the death of the President, the retirement of the Secretary of State Kimberly, the death of the two FBI hitmen, the hospitalization of an FBI Agent and being a threat to the United States. He wants me to turn myself in or else. He threatened to have me captured dead or alive.”
“WOW, I don’t think I can help you, but I will find someone that can. How can I reach you? Is this a good number?”
“No, this is a throwaway phone. I will be putting it in the trash as soon as we hang up. The FBI will be contacting you, I am sure. I used this phone to call them first. I have a Hotmail account that you can send me a message, I will call you back.” Will gives him an email account.
“Okay, give me until the end of the week to line up someone. We don’t have the staff for Federal Courts. I will email you on Thursday. Will, be careful and give my best to Amy. Hopefully, Fran and I will be at the wedding.”
“Thanks, Lou. I’ll talk to you on Friday. Goodbye.”
Will hangs up the phone, removes the battery and SIM card and trashes the phone. Once they are back at the cabin, Will puts the SIM and battery in the burn barrel.
