Chapter 15: Bad Feeling

ADRIANA'S POV

I followed Daciana out of the room, my heart racing with excitement. It felt good to be out of that stuffy, cramped space, and I couldn't wait to feel the sun on my face and the grass beneath my feet. As we stepped into the hallway, I was startled to see Donavan standing there, a sinister look on his face. He glared at us, his eyes cold and hard.

Donavan's face was twisted into a mask of hatred, his eyes narrowed into slits as he glared at us. His lips were curled back in a snarl, revealing a set of sharp teeth that seemed to glint with malice. He looked like a predator, ready to pounce on his prey at any moment.

I could feel the waves of hatred emanating from him, and I knew that he was dangerous. There was a cold, calculating look in his eyes, and I knew that he would stop at nothing to get what he wanted. I shuddered at the thought of being on the receiving end of that hatred, and I knew that I needed to be careful around Donavan. He was a man who was capable of anything, and I couldn't let my guard down around him.

I felt a surge of fear wash over me, and I instinctively stepped back, pressing myself against Daciana. I knew that Donavan hated me from the onset, and I was terrified of what he might do. I remembered that day Xander had found me in the woods after Xander had told him who I was. He glared at me so hard that I thought he was going to kill me. And here he was, looking more evil than ever.

Daciana stood tall, her eyes blazing as she faced off against him. "What are you doing here, Donavan?" she demanded. "You have no right to be here. This is a woman's Chambers"

He sneered at her, his lips curling into a cruel smile. "I have every right to be here," he spat. "This is also my pack, and I'll do whatever I please.”

Daciana's eyes narrowed, and I could see the anger building within her. But before she could say anything else, Xander appeared at the end of the hallway, his face dark and stormy.

"Donavan, what are you doing here?" he growled. "I thought I made it clear that you are to stay away from Adriana.”

Donavan sneered at him, his hatred for him clear on his face. "I'll do as I please, Xander," he replied, his voice dripping with venom. "I'm not afraid of you, or of your precious mate.”

Xander took a step forward, his eyes flashing with anger. "You will stay away from her, Donavan, or you'll have to answer to me. Do you understand?”

Donavan glared at him, his fists clenched at his sides. I could see the hatred burning in his eyes, and I knew that he was not going to back down easily. Before things could escalate any further, Daciana stepped between them, her voice calm and measured.

"Donavan, please, just go. You're not doing anyone any good by staying here and causing trouble.” He glared at her, his lips curled into a snarl. But after a moment, he seemed to deflate, his shoulders slumping in defeat. "Fine," he spat. "But this isn't over, Xander. I'll be watching you, and I'll be waiting for my chance to strike.” He whispered the last words, but somehow I still managed to hear them.

He stormed off, leaving us standing there in the hallway. I let out a sigh of relief, my body trembling with fear. I knew that Donavan was a dangerous man, and I was grateful to have Xander and Daciana by my side.

As we walked away, Daciana took my hand in hers, giving it a gentle squeeze. "Don’t worry, Adriana,” she said softly. "We'll make sure that Donavan stays away from you. You're safe with us, I promise.”

I nodded, still feeling shaken by the encounter. But as we walked through the pack lands, the warmth of the sun on my skin and the beauty of the landscape around me started to lift my spirits. I was grateful to be alive and to have such kind and protective people by my side. I still loathe this kind of life. All I craved was a normal life, one with few or no problems. But here I was, getting involved in royal squabbles.

And as I thought about Xander and Daciana, I knew that I could trust them with my life. Daciana was doing everything to make me see them as family, yet I still wanted to leave, but that wouldn't be possible. Not because of Donovan but because I simply didn't like this kind of life. The Pack was heavily guarded and Xander must have told the guards about me.

I took a deep breath and let it out slowly, feeling a sense of peace wash over me. I had been inside for too long and being outside felt so soothing. We walked through the pack lands, Daciana turned to me, her expression serious. "Adriana, there's something I need to talk to you about," she said.

I looked at her, my heart racing with anxiety. "What is it?" I asked, my voice barely above a whisper. She hesitated for a moment as if trying to decide how to word what she wanted to say. "It's about Aiden," she said finally. "The other day you talked to Xander about him, and I just wanted to warn you that you need to be careful about talking about him."

I frowned, confusion clouding my mind. "What do you mean?" I asked. "Why can't I talk about Aiden? He helped me"

Daciana sighed and looked at me, her eyes filled with sadness. "Because Xander hates him, Adriana,” she said. “Xander never spares his enemies, and he'll do whatever it takes to get rid of him if you continue like this. If he finds out that you've been talking about him, he might try to hurt you too. Xander is not always patient with people.”

I felt a cold lump form in my stomach, and I knew that Daciana was right. I couldn't risk Xander's wrath, not when my safety was at stake. "I understand,” I said, my voice barely above a whisper. "I won't talk about Aiden anymore.”

Daciana nodded, a look of relief crossing her face. "Good," she said. "I'm just glad that you're safe. I couldn't bear it if something happened to you."

I smiled at her, touched by her concern. "I'm safe because of you and Xander," I lied. "You two have been so good to me, and I'm grateful to have you both in my life."

Daciana smiled back, her eyes shining with emotion. "We're glad to have you too, Adriana," she said. "You're a part of our pack now, and we'll do everything we can to protect you."

We walked in silence for a few moments, enjoying the peaceful atmosphere of the pack lands. But as we reached the edge of the meadow, Daciana turned to me again, her expression curious. "Adriana, can I ask you a question?" she said.

I nodded, wondering what was on her mind. "Of course," I said.

She hesitated for a moment, as if unsure of how to phrase her question. "It's just that... well, I've noticed that you haven't mentioned your wolf much,” she said. "I was wondering if you could introduce her to me, like tell me what she looks like. Or if you've even met her yet."

I felt a pang of sadness wash over me at the mention of my wolf. I had always known that I was different from the other members of the pack, but I had never understood why. I stuttered, trying to avoid the question but she kept staring at me which made me say something.

"I have met her, but only once" I lied, my voice laced with sadness. "I've always felt like I was missing something like there was a piece of me that was missing. But I've never been able to figure out what itis.”

Daciana looked at me with concern, her eyes filled with compassion. "I'm sorry, Adriana," she said. "I didn't mean to upset you. I just wanted to understand more about you, and about your wolf."

I sighed and looked at her, my heart heavy with emotion. "It's okay," I said. "I'm just not sure how to explain it. It's like... I don't know if I'm incomplete without her. But I have no idea how to see her again, or how to connect with her.”

Daciana reached out and took my hand in hers, giving it a reassuring squeeze. "Don’t worry, Adriana. You will see her soon" she said. "We'll figure it out together. You're still very young though. You're just turned eighteen right?”

I nodded. "Don’t worry. You're not alone in this, and we'll do everything we can to help you find your wolf. You're a part of this pack, and we'll support you no matter what."

Tears sprang to my eyes, I don't know for what reason. "Thank you," I whispered. "Thank you for understanding, and for being there for me.”

She hugged me back, her own eyes misting over with emotion. "You're welcome, Adriana,” she said "We're a family now, and we'll always be here for each other.”

"Can you keep this away from Xander, please? C- can you... keep it a secret, please.” I said, my words ridden with stutters. I had no idea what he might do to me if he found out. He would probably banish me, and think I'm useless just like the people in my old pack.

"Of course my dear. Your secret is safe with me." She said.

We continued to walk through the gardens with Daciana, enjoying the warm sunshine on my skin. It was a beautiful day, and for a moment, I was able to forget about all of my troubles and just enjoy the moment. As much as I tried to push my worries aside, I couldn't shake the fear that Donavan had instilled in me. I knew that he was dangerous, and I didn't want to be anywhere near him.

"You seem deep in thought,” Daciana said, bringing me back to the present. "Is everything okay?"

I sighed and forced a smile. "I'm fine," I said. "It's just... I feel weird around Donavan. I can't shake the feeling that he's going to do something to hurt me.”

Daciana reached out and took my hand, giving it a reassuring squeeze. "Don't worry, Adriana," she said. "I'll make sure that you're protected at all times. And if Donavan tries to do anything to hurt you, he'll have to go through me first."

I smiled, feeling grateful for her support. "Thank you, Daciana,” I said. "I appreciate it."

We continued to walk, enjoying the peaceful silence of the gardens. But even as I tried to relax, I couldn't help but notice the looks of jealousy and hatred from the maids as we passed by. If looks could kill, I would have been dead a hundred times over.

I sighed and looked away, trying to ignore the negativity. I knew that I would never be able to win the approval of everyone in the pack, and I had to accept that. All I could do was be myself and hope that it was enough.

"Don't let them get to you," Daciana said, sensing my discomfort. "You're strong, Adriana. And you have a good heart. That's all that matters.” I nodded, feeling a sense of determination wash over me. Daciana was right.

Thinking of Daciana and the kindness she had shown me. She had been my only source of support in this unfamiliar place, and I found myself trusting her more and more each day.

I sighed, letting out a deep breath. It was strange, but in such a short amount of time, Daciana had become someone I relied on. I trusted her, and I felt safe with her. I appreciated her kindness, I couldn't help the thinking that I was getting in too deep. I had only known her for a few days, and yet I felt like I had known her for years. It was strange, and it was a little bit scary.

I closed my eyes, trying to push the thoughts out of my head. I needed to focus on the present, and on surviving in this unfamiliar place. And with Daciana by my side, I knew that I could do it. She was my rock, my support, and my friend. And no matter what challenges came my way, I knew that I could count on her to help me through them.
