Forsaking the Years of Longing

Chapter Forsaking Billionaire 140

Chapter 21 In the end, Jason stormed off in frustration, and watching his angry figure retreat, I felt an unexpected sense of satisfaction.

Callan had truly gone overboard lately, snatching multiple projects right out from under Parker's nose. Even though Jason tried his best to salvage the situation, the damage was done - Parker Enterprises was now facing internal financial issues. Jason might have been too proud to come to me for help, but that didn't mean his family shared his stubbornness. His parents didn't hesitate to swallow their pride and approach me.

I wasn't surprised when Abraham and Nina Parker showed up at my door.

What I didn't expect, however, was their real purpose. I assumed they were here to ask for financial support or a partnership.

Instead, they had an even bolder agenda - they wanted to propose a marriage alliance on behalf of their son.

"Caroline, why didn't you tell us earlier that you were the Howard family heiress? You wasted all those years going back and forth with Jason. If we'd known, you'd already be Mrs.

Parker by now," Nina said as she walked into my home, carrying herself with the air of a proper lady. Even seated on the couch, her chin remained arrogantly lifted as she spoke to me in the condescending tone of an elder lecturing a junior.

Abraham followed closely behind. While he wasn't as haughty as Nina, it was clear from his demeanor that he wasn't pleased with me either. Still, given my current status, he maintained a veneer of politeness.

Rolling my eyes, I leaned against the doorframe with my arms crossed, leaving the front door wide open. I was already contemplating the best way to get these two nuisances out of my house.

Then Abraham cleared his throat and spoke.

"Jason has already called off his engagement with the Wood family for you. He cares about you deeply; we can see that.

You're both at the right age to settle down and get married."

Called off his engagement for me?

A huge question mark popped up in my head, followed by another. My confusion was so overwhit practically knocked on the door and walked in to stay.

"Who told you I was planning to marry Jason? We've already broken up, haven't we?"

Nina scoffed, "We know you're just acting out. But Jason has already apologized, hasn't he? You should soften up. A little argument between a couple is normal. Don't let it affect the relationship between our families."

Her words were so absurd I almost laughed in anger.

"Excuse me, ma'am," I said, smirking, "I did have a relationship with Jason, but since when have our families

been connected in aove

"Do you think you're worthy of that?"

I didn't even say it in a particularly harsh tone - it was just the truth. Yet Nina's face darkened immediately.

"Don't forget, you were the one who loved our Jason. We didn't force you to like him!" she snapped.

I nodded. "Exactly. And now I don't love him anymore. So doesn't that mean we're done here?"
