Chapter 2
“I’m Forest, and this is my friend Bush. Please stay with us for a while, we need to tell you something.” said Forest.
Forest told Leaf, Grass and Rye all about his mission, The Pack of the Sun and Moon as well as their potential to become the Alphas of their packs. Bush told them his experience and new faith in The Pack of the Sun, and persuaded them to stay with them. After a little consideration, they agreed. It occurred to them that Leaf was the leader out of those three, but they didn’t tell Forest and Bush their background and story, so they decided not to pry.
After a satisfying night of hunting and feasting, the five wolves settled down to sleep. In their dreams, they entered the hunting grounds between the grounds of The Pack of the Sun and the Pack and of the Moon
“Welcome to the hunting grounds of The Pack of the Sun and The Pack of the Moon. I want to first welcome Leaf, Grass and Rye into the large community of pack wolves. These young wolves have shown qualities in the past that prove them worthy to be pack wolves, and soon pack Alphas.” announced Beech.
“Thank you. I’m honoured to be welcomed as a pack wolf. I’ll try my best to serve my future pack.” replied Grass and Rye.
“And I’ll try my best to serve my future pack.” promised Leaf
“Wolves, do you see the light leading to Forest’s paws? In the waking world, only Forest can see this light. This light will guide you to the new territories. Always follow and believe Forest. He is always under our guidance.” informed Beech
“Ok, Beech.” agreed Leaf, Grass and Rye.
The world around them swirled with darkness as they were brought back to the waking world.
“Forest, Forest, I had a dream that I was in the hunting grounds of the Pack of the Sun and the Pack of the Moon with all of you! Did you have the same dream?” Rye asked.
“Yes, we were all there.” Forest replied.
They broke up to hunt and regrouped to eat their prey. Soon, they set off again, following Forest as he confidently strode ahead, following the Pack of the Sun’s guidance. Suddenly, they heard a loud and pained yowl. They all rushed in the direction of the sound, bracing themselves for attack. When they arrived, the yowling had stopped, and they saw a mother wolf with her five newborn pups. Next to her was a tall she-wolf and a he-wolf. They were at the very end of a long alley, away from all the large and smelly green boxes.
“Who are you, and why are you here?” the tall she-wolf snarled.
“We’re going to a new territory to form several packs. We can help you with hunting and defending if you want.” Forest offered.
The tall she-wolf hesitated, then bent down to talk with the mother wolf and the he-wolf. Forest couldn’t hear what they were saying, but he knew they were talking about him and his companions because they kept turning their heads to cast doubtful glances at them.
“I’m Flower, and these are my littermates Thorn and Violet. We gratefully accept your help, you can stay with us tonight. How long do you want to help us for? These pups need at least 3 more moons until they can travel. Are you going to stay with us for that long?” the tall she-wolf introduced.
“We’ll stay with you for as long as you need if one or more of you are the chosen ones.” assured Forest.
“Chosen ones? What do you mean by that?” Thorn asked.
For the third time, Forest told the three wolves about The Pack of the Sun and the Pack of the Moon’s mission for them. Forest told them that if they were chosen, they would be visited by the Pack of the Sun and Moon in their dreams tonight. Bush, Leaf, Grass and Rye recounted their experiences.
“And if we weren’t chosen, would you leave to continue your quest?” Violet asked.
“Do these pups have a father who could look after them?” Leaf inquired gently.
“He doesn’t care about us.” Violet replied bitterly.
“And why is that?” questioned Bush.
The others glared at him for his harshness towards the struggling mother.
“I’m sorry. You don’t have to answer-” Bush apologised.
“It’s alright. Since you’re helping us, you deserve to know our story. We were born and raised in The Pack of Bones, a pack of dishonourable, mangy wolves living on the human streets not so far away from here. However, our personality and upbringing was very different to theirs. They’re taught to be savage and ruthless, whereas we were taught by our parents to be kind and merciful. You see, our parents were Theta and Iota in an honourable pack in the forest, until they were kicked out because they were framed by a wolf who wanted to poison the Alpha. They cast out to live in the human town, and joined The Pack of Bones because they missed the companionship in a pack. The Pack of Bones even made them the Theta and Iota because they didn’t have one before. They gave birth to us soon after they joined the pack. When Violet was around 24 moons old, she fell in love with Max, one of the Alpha’s sons. They became mates and soon Violet was bearing Max’s pups. At around the same time, Max was arranging a plan to assassinate his father so he could become Alpha, because in The Pack of Bones the oldest pup of an Alpha succeeds him when he dies. Violet didn’t agree with the plan, and she kept bothering Max about it, saying that if he didn’t call it off, she’ll tell the Alpha.
Max immediately saw her as a threat, and the next day, he fabricated an attempt to poison the Alpha and framed Violet for it. Violet was banished, her belly still full of pups. Max said that he would find his pups when they turned 3 moons old and take them away. Our whole family went with her, but my parents, being 70 and 76 moons old already, decided that living on the streets was too hard of a life for them, so they went to see if there were any other packs nearby that would take them. Because of Max’s threat, Violet, Thorn and I decided to go somewhere far from the pack. However, before we could leave the human town, Violet gave birth to the pups, and we couldn’t go much further. If you choose to live with us, you might have to fight Max and any warriors he brings just before you continue on your journey.” recounted Flower.
