Chapter Wolves are the strongest
One week later
“Dammit! The answer is staring us right in the face. Why are you still being hesitant?” Victor paces in front of his fellow council members.
“Calm down Victor.” Braham demands with a swift stomp of his cane, annoyance clear on his face.
Morik is standing in the far corner of the room, staring out the window, not seeming at all bothered by the so-called discussion taking place. Though, Ruhan’s silence mixed with his wrinkled expression from being deep in thought, makes it clear he is not focusing on anyone at all. An expression he has been wearing for the whole week.
Ruhan can’t help but wonder about that night of the Ghost Killer’s attack at their supposed secret meeting.
She could have killed them all, in the weak and distracted state they were in, -even the witch child. Rather, she avoided attacking them and instead went straight for the witch elder.
I was sure she would come back and try to finish us off too, especially since we discovered that she’s not a man. From my experience with assassins, they get rid of anything or anyone that could reveal anything about their identity.
But they haven’t heard from her since.
And not to mention, how did she know about the time and location of the meeting? We set it literally a day before the time.
Ruhan looks up and scans his colleagues with a curious look.
“How can we be calm? You see what’s happening out there.” Victor huffs out with frustration. “You’re just stalling the inevitable.”
“Why are you so desperate to go to war?” Ruhan finally gives his colleague some attention.
“War?” Victor says exasperated. “I’m desperate to keep our kind alive. To survive this bloody war.”
“Is war really the only way to do that?” Ruhan questions.
“If we don’t fight, the fight will find us.”
“He’s right.” Says a voice in the distance getting everyone’s attention. They all stare at Morik, their silent partner.
“Have you changed your mind now, Morik? You were never bothered with us letting the wolves join this fight.” Braham says as he takes a seat, letting his cramping leg get some relief.
“Or is there more you’re not telling us? Again?” Ruhan adds.
Morik just smirks. “This war is inevitable. We’ll fight whether we want to or not. Besides,…after the assassination attempt on the witch elder last week, most witch covens have already officially declared war on the hunters. Whether the ghost killer is in fact a hunter is irrelevant to them. They want blood. Not to mention that the berserk attacks are still frequent, regardless of the so-called regulations and restrictions currently put in place. Supernaturals and humans are already turning on each other and even against their own. Things are going to get real ugly, real quick. It’s only a matter of time.”
The room is filled with a momentary pause of silence as each take in Morik’s words. They know he may be quiet and considered mysterious, but he’s always a stickler for information and tends to be rational with his opinions, if he ever chooses to share them.
But they all know what is to come. A decision is to be made. And even though the wolf council has been unable to make a unanimous decision about this for the past week, they all are already aware of the truth in Morik’s words. They cannot avoid this fight.
“It’s all or nothing then.” Ruhan states in a deep and steady tone. “The only way to survive this war, is to come out at the top.”
“Of course we’ll survive. Wolves are the strongest.” Victor says with praise. “We’ll annihilate them all if we have to.”
“Things will never be the same again.” Braham says lowly as he gently shakes his head.
“There is no need for you to look so scared Braham.” Victor teases, getting an annoyed growl from Braham. “Rather see this as an opportunity. As a revolution.”
