Chapter Who is it?
Third POV
Blake storms into the huge room with the others following after him through the wide double doors.
“So what is it that you want to discuss with me?” Blake grunts out as he stares back at the men that followed behind him, -his head members.
Arem steps forward, getting a growl from Blake, but he doesn’t retreat. After all, he’s not a wolf. He won’t feel the urge to submit to a self-made alpha like Blake.
“What is your obsession with her?” Arem points behind him referring to Layla back in the cells.
Gggrhh. “She is my mate.” He says out of annoyance.
“No wolf can harm his mate. Even if you wanted to, your wolf would have stopped you.”
Blake clenches his jaw seeing the other two men, his Gamma and Delta, staring at him with accusatory looks as well.
Arem continues. “You said you were just going to spend time with her to help grow your bond, and to help her get rid of that alpha’s mark on her. You said it would be a painful process for her. But you didn’t say you would be torturing her.” He says the last part with revulsion evident in his tone.
“You wouldn’t understand.” Blake shakes his head as he combs his fingers through his sweaty hair.
“Don’t give me that bullshit! You keep trying to throw that nonsense at us, that it’s a wolf thing and we wouldn’t understand. But Lincoln does.” He points at one of the men in the room, with a pair of green eyes and a five o’clock shadow.
The room is filled with their heavy breathing.
“Blake.” Blake looks at Lincoln, his Delta. “Why would you and your wolf do that to her?” As calm as he’s trying to say it, he still notices the anger in his tone.
Lincoln can’t imagine a wolf doing that to his mate, ever. And to think that he was the one Layla stopped in one of the towns on his way here, just to ask him to pass a message on to Blake. He thought the two of them really cared for each other. And he believed it when Blake said they were mates. But Arem’s suspicions may just have some truth in it.
He can’t imagine what kind of alpha she could have come across on her travels, for him to force his mark on her. What alpha would even do that to a human? To force them into their harsh world.
“He took her from me!” Blake shouts through heavy breaths. “She’s changed. She’s changed ever since that alpha got a hold of her.” His eyes glow, showing his wolf’s frustrations.
Lincoln sighs. “She’s not yours, is she?” He too takes a firm step forward, showing the end of his respect and submission to Blake. Lincoln already left his previous pack and its self-righteous alpha. He’s not going to allow himself to become part of that again.
Blake growls loudly as he runs at Lincoln in anger. But Lincoln is ready for his attack as he takes a punch to the gut but manages to shove Blake to the side and against the table. As Blake gets up with determination in his eyes, Arem steps in, stopping Blake’s charge with his much larger frame.
“Enough!” Arem shoves him back, his brown eyes glowing with an auburn colour. “Cedric.” He calls to the other man in the room, their pack’s Gamma. “Tell him what you told me yesterday.”
Cedric steps forward in his black leather jacket. His slick black hair and dark brown eyes glowing in the light of the chandelier in the room. “Those young wolves you took with you to go rescue that girl, they won’t say a word of where they went with you. They’re scared shitless in fact. It’s clear you must have used your alpha command on them.”
“They just respect their alpha. Unlike some people.” Blake says in distaste.
“What are you trying to hide?” Arem interrupts him, but Blake doesn’t reply, rage still evident one his face. And with the intense glow in his eyes, Arem knows he’s close to shifting any second now. “Even Melissa said that girl, Layla, never saw you as her mate. Even before that alpha marked her.”
Blake blinks confused. He still can’t believe Melissa would say anything against him. She always did whatever he asked, without asking any questions. She was beyond grateful for him saving her, after all. Wasn’t she?
Blake can feel someone trying to push a link through to him but he ignores it as Arem steps around him, as if the three of them are surrounding him. More like Arem is challenging him, and the others are stopping him from leaving.
Blake growls deeply in his chest as his muscles tense.
“And do you know another thing that is weird? We’ve received reports on attacks happening in various towns, labs burning down. And each attack just seems to be coming closer to us.” Arem sighs, as he shares a knowing look with Lincoln and Cedric. “He’s coming for her isn’t he?” He says as he looks back at Blake.
Blake clenches his jaws and fists. He is angry that they don’t want to acknowledge Layla as his mate. But his wolf is angrier at the fact that they aren’t respecting him as their alpha.
But his silence confirms their suspicions, and they all release deep growls, vibrating off of the walls of their meeting room as realization dons on them.
Alphas are far more territorial than regular wolves. If one wanted to force his mark on someone, he would have done it on the neck, to make it permanent. And for this alpha to be this relentless in looking for her, it must be because she is his mate.
Arem grabs and scrunches Blake’s shirt in his fisting palms as he yanks him closer and towers over him. “YOU TOOK AN ALPHA’S MATE?!!”
But Blake growls back, ripping Arem’s hands off of him, and part of his shirt in the process.
“Who is it? Who is the alpha?!” Arem is getting agitated. But so is Blake.
Blake release a loud growl before he rips his clothes off and shifts into his large grey wolf. He jumps at Arem, but he is knocked to the side by another wolf, Lincoln’s brown wolf.
Arem then pulls his shirt off with one swift pull and shifts into his large brown bear. The whole floor shakes as his front paws land on the ground, as he stands on all fours.
Cedric annoyingly growls, throwing his black leather jacket in the corner of the room before shifting into his pitch black panther.
Blake’s grey wolf stands in the middle of the room looking at his head members surrounding him, -defying their alpha. But Blake already knows who his biggest competitor is.
He lunges at Arem’s large bear, but het suddenly stands on his hind legs, towering over Blake’s wolf. He drops with his heavy weight, pushing Blake away with his claws. But Blake yaps and bites one of Arem’s arms, getting a loud roar from him.
Lincoln’s brown wolf bites at Blake’s hind legs making him yelp. Cedric’s panther deftly leaps onto the table and jumps, attacking Blake from behind. He bites and grips onto Blake’s fur on the back of his neck.
Blake is slowly becoming aware of his disadvantage in this fight. But he spins around, shaking Lincoln and Cedric off of him.
They all circle him, but he knows there is only one person able to kill him, and is now willing to try.
He attacks Arem again, knowing he’s stronger but far slower than him, and yaps at his hind leg. With a loud growl, Arem’s bear tears Blake from his leg, but maintains his grip on his head. With his large paws he grabs Blake’s jaws and pulls. He uses all of his strength as he proceeds to rip his jaws apart as Blake continues to claw at Arem’s abdomen. Blake’s mouth tears open and then a soft crack sounds through the room and Blake’s body goes limp.
Releasing his grip, Blake’s body falls to the ground and the room is filled with silence.
Arem knew what had to be done. Their alpha had lost it, and he wasn’t going to give control to someone else. He had to challenge Blake.
All three men shift back into their human forms, standing naked in the room, covered in blood and sweat. But before any of them could say a word, the double doors burst open getting everyone frozen in place.
They all stared at the doorway, where a very large, very angry man stood, seething and covered in blood. On either side of him, stood two other men. All three of them shirtless.
Nick stepped into the room, followed by Micah and Ben, looking between the naked men.
“Who are you?” Arem asks, standing naked in front of the new arrivals.
But Nick suddenly releases a deep and ominous growl as he walks towards the grey wolf in the middle of the room, that’s already slowly transforming back into his human form.
Before Arem and the others can step in, Micah and Ben stand in front of them, blocking their way from approaching their alpha.
Arem realizes this must be why someone was trying to mind link him before. Their pack was under attack. But these wolves aren’t rogues. And with the massive roar he just felt, which his own bear felt the need to submit to, he knows the man that just came is an alpha, a true alpha.
Arem gives Lincoln and Cedric a brief shake of his head, as a signal to not interfere. There is nothing they can do for Blake now anyways. Though, Lincoln seems to already be aware, as he has his head lowered submissively.
Nick is staring down at Blake’s limp body, clenching his fists in anger that blood starts to drip from them.
He’s fuming. Nick has been looking for her for over a week. He felt her pain every day through their bond, through his mark. How Layla was hurt and violated. All he knew was that Blake’s newly found pack was somewhere in the northern mountains. He just didn’t know where exactly. And after yesterday when he couldn’t feel anything anymore, he knew that the mark must have already healed.
I need to find her! I need to know she’s okay, that she’s safe.
Every day he thought about all the things he would do to Blake to make him suffer for the pain he put Layla through. And now he can’t even get to see anger, defeat or fear in his eyes.
People keep hurting Layla, and I’m always too late to stop it or to punish the people responsible.
He growls again as he walks to Arem, -the larger man with the most claw marks on him, who he assumes was most likely the one to have fought and killed Blake.
“Where is she?” He commands in his deep voice filled with rage.
Arem already suspected who this fearsome and intruding man might be to the woman they kept locked up. He just never expected it to be the infamous alpha killer. And definitely not this soon.
“I’ll take you to her.” They all look at the doorway, at the woman standing there. “She’s down in the cells.”
Nick growls at the words of the familiar woman. But one look at her hair and eyes, he knows she is not his brother’s mate. And he's definitely not interested to find out why.
Nick follows, with Ben and Micah following closely behind. Arem, Lincoln and Cedric rush for pants as they hurry behind the alpha and his men, not sure what else to do to handle the situation.
Arem had just challenged Blake, and he won. Technically, he is now protector of this mixed pack of rogues and rejects. But now the alpha killer is already walking through their pack-grounds like he owns it, yet as if ready to burn the whole place down if he doesn’t get what he wants.
Shit! Blake just blinded her. If Alpha Nicholas sees his mate hurt, he will surely kill us all. I just fought to protect this pack. It can’t all just go to shit now.
Arem clenches his fists as he gives Lincoln and Cedric warning looks, to be ready for whatever may come.
