Chapter Tell tales
Having dragged council member Ruhan to the ancient mansion, which currently serves as their headquarters, Nicholas forced him to stay awake and to speak of what he knows.
And he did. He told them of everything he knew and everything he saw. Including Erickson’s new alliances with the vampire queen, with Tristan’s witch-mate and with Victor and Braham. He told them about Morik’s sacrifice, about his secret dealings with Layla the ghost-killer, and of Erickson’s accusations of her being a celestial.
The large room was filled with silence as Ruhan’s declarations came to an end. But eventually the tension that hung heavily in the air piqued everyone’s growing anxiety.
Both Tyler and Ben had to hold Tristan back as he wanted to attack Ruhan for spouting nonsense about his mate. He eventually stormed out, but not without throwing around whatever he could get his hands on.
Anthony is being coaxed in a far corner by Jason, in the hopes of calming him down. But Anthony’s constant mumbling of his disbelief that his father is behind all of this has him riled up and his fisted hands start to bleed.
But the lion protector, Kesh Lan, approaches a quiet Nicholas, as the healers wrap bandages on the last of Ruhan’s wounds.
“Not only are some of the wolves’ council members in on this, but the vampire queen has joined them too. We won’t stand a chance against their army.” Kesh says in a deep but gentle tone.
Nicholas finally acknowledges Kesh and looks up at him. “Do you only fight battles you know you will win?”
Kesh smirks. “Nah. They’re too boring. I’m just making sure we’re on the same page.”
“As long as you don’t hesitate.”
A brief silence falls over them as more people start leaving the room in mumbled conversations.
“So.” Kesh continues as he asks for confirmation. “Your mate is a celestial?”
But Nicholas doesn’t response. In fact, his stoic expression gives no confirmation or denial.
But Kesh just chuckles. “The closest I’ve ever come to celestials was with the stories I heard as a cub. The terrifying and malicious creatures put on this earth with one purpose, -to destroy all supernatural life. Beings with the power of gods that bring nothing but curses wherever they go.”
Nick growls lowly in annoyance and in warning. But Kesh continues with his gentle smile.
“I must say, that’s pretty cool though. I’d really like to meet her one day.”
Nicholas looks at him with a slightly confused look.
“Hey, it’s not every day one can say they met a celestial. And I bet she’s blessed with divine beauty as the tales say they are.”
“Mine.” Nicholas can’t help but grunt out at the lion’s sweet words of admiration.
Kesh chuckles again. “I know, I know. I’m just worried though. With the horrible rep celestials have with us-supernaturals, I’m sure the so-called alpha king will use it to his advantage. -Scaring others into joining his cause. After all, fear is the most efficient medium of control.”
But before their so-called conversation can continue, Nicholas feels a mind-link pushing through forcefully.
Attack! Berserk wolves are attacking.
Nick’s ominous aura fills the room and everyone present feels the sudden threat.
Nick releases a loud growl as he makes his way to a tired Ruhan.
“You were followed!” He accuses as most of his men already rush out to help in the attack.
“Impossible. I made sure to lose their trackers yesterday already.”
“And their berserkers?”
Ruhan goes mute as he thinks over the possibility. “NO. I- I would have known.” He tries to get up, but the pain of his wounds are visible on his scrunched up face.
“Stay here.” Nick orders as he nods at his healers to keep Ruhan from leaving the room.
He rushes out with the rest of the people following closely behind, running to the misty forest to join yet another fight they don’t know who they might lose to next.
