Chapter Hello
Confused, Arem hesitantly stands up.
“Shit. I was certain he would have killed us. My wolf could feel his murderous aura.” Lincoln says as he helps his friend up.
But Arem was more focused on the woman his beta and gamma were hiding behind them. He wasn’t surprised with the angry and annoyed look she had on her face, but he was still unsure what for.
“So now you’re trying to play the martyr?” She says annoyed as she steps past Cedric.
He clenches his jaw and fists. He had come to realize with time, that he can never really figure out what it is that she’s thinking. But one thing was for certain, is that whatever he ends up doing or saying, it always manages to piss her off.
“Melinda?”
They all turn their heads as they hear a man who is slowly making his way to them. An alpha.
Out of reflex, Arem holds her hand and pulls her behind him.
But the alpha seems to be getting angry at him trying to hide her from him as he releases a deep growl.
She can sense Arem’s tension as his grip on her tightens, but she pulls her hand from his and steps out from behind his figure.
The alpha stands frozen as he looks at her with an array of emotions passing his face. -Relief, mixed with confusion and guilt.
She knows who he is, and she doubts he would know her.
“You’re not Melinda.” Tristan says, finally realizing that the familiar face may be similar to his mate’s but is too different as well. The obvious haircut is different. But it’s also the look of uncertainty and caution in her eyes. She wears it all over her body as well. This is not Melinda. His mate is confident, stubborn and care-free.
“Hello, Tristan.” She finally speaks.
Everyone looks at her with surprise at knowing the alpha.
As if a light bulb went off in his head, his look at her turns to one of pure relief as he gives her a gentle but sad smile.
“Hello, Melissa.”
Melissa is taken aback.
“Yo-,..you know who I am?”
“Of course, I do. You’re my mate’s sister. Her twin.”
“She,….she told you about,……me?” Melissa has difficulty finding her words.
She can’t believe it. She always thought her sister hated her. The whole family had shunned her for being a disgrace and a nuisance to the coven. For all she knew, is that she could be lying dead in a ditch and none of them would have been bothered. Especially since they denied her existence right after she ran from home. She can still remember the last conversation she had with Melinda. They were arguing to the point of shouting at each other how much they hated each other and wished to never see the other again. It was so horrible. She still feels a pit of guilt every time it comes to mind.
“Yes.” Tristan says softly with not much more to add. “She’s not here.” He says in a guilty whisper.
“I know. She’s with the Alpha King.”
Tristan releases an involuntary growl, making Arem step up right behind her, that she can feel the heat of his chest radiating against her back.
“She’s not with them. She’s not a murderer.” Tristan says annoyingly.
But Melissa doesn’t know what to say about that. After all this time of keeping tabs on her, she still can’t understand Melinda. Just when you think you know what she’s trying to do, you find out she was up to something else. Not to mention that Melinda basically went against the family when she chose to be with her wolf mate. What’s the point of throwing away your family for a man, just to leave him the second things get tough? But as much as she can’t understand her sister, she can’t help but feel that she should trust her.
“Then we should make sure to bring her back safely.” Melissa offers with a soft smile.
Tristan grins with relief. But his smile slowly turns into a smirk, seeing the auburn eyes glowing behind her. But those eyes were not to warn him, rather, to show that she has his protection.
The say wolves are protective, but bears are far worse. Tristan thinks to himself as he nods at the new arrivals and makes his way back to the pack house.
