Chapter Don't worry
As Erickson rushes through the building towards the sounds of growls and fighting, he comes to halt after getting a glimpse of his sons in this so-called battle.
He can’t help but smirk at their pathetic attempt. He has a whole army of wolf shifters, witches, vampires and berserkers.
He immediately pulls a wolf off of one of his warriors and starts pounding his fists into his face, loving the sound of bone breaking. He slowly works his way through the crowd wanting to make the most of this. He knows he will eventually reach his boys and teach them a proper lesson of what it means to be truly strong.
Unfortunately, none of Nick or his two brothers have taken notice of their father. All of them too focused on pushing their way through the decrepit Manor.
It’s large and one of the few in the area built of stone and not wood. But it also made it easy for them to find their father. He always did like the best of what he could get.
But with all the fighting, the rush of mixed scents of different creatures mixed with blood, flooded their senses. Nick can’t even get their father’s scent. It angers his wolf beyond his control that he rips off the arm of the warrior he’s fighting, just to push through the crowd quicker.
Nick doesn’t need distractions now. He knows he doesn’t need to worry about Layla. If she hasn’t managed to get herself out by now, he made sure to send the bear-shifter Arem, and his mixed pack to wherever their cells are for keeping prisoners. Which, according to his spies were under a barn on the far side of this place. He definitely also needed to give the bear-Protector another chance to prove himself and save his mate. As much as Nick doesn’t want to kill the man so soon, when he hasn’t even marked his life-mate yet, his wolf isn’t as sentimental. His wolf just can’t stand the thought of letting Arem breathe when he hasn’t done something to prove it in more than just words.
On the other side of the large estate is Kesh Lan with his lion-warriors and the few witches who allied with Nicholas. Kesh Lan is still doubtful about Nicholas’s plan, which seems rather too straightforward.
Kesh Lan and his warriors have gone around the massive building and barged in through the back entries. The plan is simple, -keep any and every one from leaving. The assistance of the witches made it that much easier for them to sneak up on their enemies. Not only were their scents hidden, but the witches’ elemental gifts got them through every trap along the way.
They had barely barged in through the back doors when their surprise visit got Erickson’s warriors in a panic and attacking whoever they saw. But he knew the panic was a result of them seeing lion-shifters on their property.
Many of Kesh Lan’s men and himself fought these wolves in their skins. There was no need to shift, yet.
Lion-shifters only shift when it is necessary or a life threatening situation. Unlike most shifters who have a bond with their animal spirit, the same does not apply to lion-shifters. Their spirit animal is pure beast. One that disregards the rules and social order of things. It does not care what an Alpha or a Protector is. It is a manifestation of raw power and strength, and will do anything to show to everyone that it is in fact the king of this jungle.
The numbers of their enemies were slowly dropping, but with all his fighters and the witches still standing strong, he almost released a breath of relief. But he stiffened the moment he saw three vampires slowly making themselves known as they walked up behind the wolves.
Kesh Lan released a loud roar to warn his fighters of the impending threat. He knew their time to shift was near. But he paused, watching them. Needing them to make the first move.
Nicholas said we shouldn’t worry about the vampires. That they won’t be a problem.
He’s not even sure what that meant. Before he could even ask, Nicholas was already running in another direction.
But in a swift whoosh, one vampire grabbed one of the wolves around its neck and snapped it before it could even fight back. And soon, the other two also joined in their fight against the wolves.
Shit! They’re on our side.
He released another loud roar as he got his attention back in the fight, struggling to hide his smirk as he sees the growing fear in the wolves’ defeated eyes. –They know they have been betrayed.
This gives him some hope for his cousin, Mike. They had barely seen each other when he also made his way here. And he’s not surprised Mike completely ignored him or their pride. But knowing that his attention was on his mate, Kesh Lan couldn’t help but be happy for him. He does hope he gets her out of this hellhole. But he wishes even more that Mike comes back home.
