Fierce Betrayal: Chapter 18

I stare out of the huge floor-to-ceiling windows of Alejandro’s office. Lucia left an hour ago. I’ve started a trace on the IP address of the last account to message her on that stupid social media app and now Alejandro and I are going to speak to some people about the attempted break in at her place last night. I know she’s safe. Raoul is one of the best, but I would still feel better if she were with me.

“You ready, amigo?” Alejandro asks as he ends the call he was on.

“Yeah,” I reply as I turn back to face him as his cell starts to ring again.

He rolls his eyes but when he sees the name on the screen he frowns.

“Raoul?” he says when he answers.

I can’t hear the other part of the conversation and all I can do is watch as the expression on his face tells me that something is seriously wrong. I stare at Alejandro, willing him to hurry the fuck up so he can tell me that she’s okay.

“Where are they taking her? We’ll be there as soon as we can,” he says and then he ends the call.

“What is it?” The words catch in my throat. I’ve never been a man of God but I say a quick prayer to him anyway. If he’d just let her be okay, then—

He blinks at me. “It’s Lucia.”

Yeah, I got that. “What about her?” I snap as my heart hammers in my chest.

“Someone tried to run the car off the road. They’re taking her to the hospital.”

I suck in a breath as the blood rushes in my ears. “Is she okay?”

Time stands still as I wait for him to answer.

“Yeah.” Finally he nods and I breathe again. “Raoul managed to keep the car on the road but he hit a stop sign. He said she’s a little banged up but fine.”

“Fuck!” I run a hand over my face.

“Someone just tried to kill my daughter, Jax!” he snarls now, as though the reality of what he just heard is sinking in.

“I know,” I nod, but right now I have an overwhelming need to get to her and check over every inch of her body. “Let’s go see her and find out what happened and then we can decide what to do next, okay?”

“Yeah,” he nods at me. “Let’s go.”
