Feral Wolf

Chapter 6

I made my way back to the clearing of my territory, my wounds were already healing. I quickly found a hidden shirt in the shrub under a rock and put it on to hide my body. When I came out, Alecto and Isis were standing there waiting for me. They were both frowning at me.

“What were you thinking?” Isis asked, crossing her arms.

“I needed a run.” I muttered and walked up to them.

“You went off on your own.” Alecto pointed out.

“Oh so you do have an active brain.” I replied sarcastically and punched Alecto hard on the arm. He rubbed it before glowering at me.

“Next time, we would like a warning.” Isis huffed and we all turned around back to the building.

“Ok, mom and dad.” I replied and glanced up to see that Brontes was already walking back towards us.

It did amaze me how quickly he was getting comfortable with everyone around here. There are times he would revert back but for him to handle everything around him in just short of twenty-four hours amazes me. His hair was still falling ruthlessly on his shoulder. When people saw him they were still scared of him but he seemed to not even notice. In fact, his eyes were on me.

“So this is your mate?” Isis asked, pointing towards Brontes. I nodded my response and stopped as he made the last few steps towards me.

“He looks angry.” Alecto whispered into my ear.

“Don’t you two have something to do? If not, I can add more work.” I arched an eyebrow at them. They both stiffened and before I knew it they were already walking away from us.

Brontes stood tall in front of me and I had to tilt back my head to look up at him. I moved to walk around him but he grabbed my arms to stop me. I looked at the tingling contact and then back up at him. He was still frowning.

“You could’ve been killed.” Brontes growled out.

“Everything was under my control.” I replied back coolly.

“Is that why you were flat on your back and him on top of you?”

I huffed and yanked my elbow out of his grasp and continued to walk around him.

“Don’t run from me.” Brontes gritted out and after I found the right spot I turned back to look at him.

“I wasn’t running away from you. You’re tall. I needed to find higher ground so I could look at your face and not at the sun.” I replied.

He inhaled deeply, his broad shoulders moving up and down as he tried to calm down.

“What is a mate?” He changed the subject suddenly. I blinked and then remembered I didn’t tell him.

“In our world, every wolf has a mate—a soul mate. Someone made only for them. Some werewolves find theirs right when they hit maturity which is usually around age twenty.” I moved to touch his arm. “Do you feel that?”

He nodded.

“Have you ever felt that with anyone else?” I asked softly.

“No.” He replied immediately. “Only with you.”

A soft smile came onto my face, “It is also a sign that I am your soul mate. I am your other half.”

I was about to continue when out of the corner of my eyes I saw a female running down the hills towards us. I turned slightly to look at the female, not recognizing who she was. When she reached us she threw her arms around Brontes. He looked down at her and then his arms wrapped around her.

My wolf scratched furiously at the surface. A growl left my throat and before my human skin could take control; my wolf’s claw came out and gripped the female around her throat. She scratched at my hand as she tried feebly for me to release her.

“Let her go.” Brontes ordered. My eyes flickered to him and I felt hurt brew inside of me. I dropped the female immediately and she crawled over to Brontes.

“Who is she?” I asked.

“She and I use to be prisoners in the same area. We have become close.” Brontes said carefully.

“What do you mean by close?” I whispered lowly.

“Close as we had been together.” The female spat at me angrily. The blatant disrespect had my wolf growling. The sounds made her cringe and lower her head in submission.

“You’re saying to me that you fucked her?” I growled out as I glared at Brontes. He winced and I knew the answer. Moon Goddess above, I was going to kill someone today if I didn’t get away from them.

“Calliope.” He said my name and it was like a caress. It calmed me down a little but not completely. I spun on my heels and began walking away. If not, I would kill both him and her.

“Calliope, don’t run away from me.” Brontes said again. This time he sounded a little closer. I broke into a run because I didn’t want to be near him or I would gouge his beautiful eyes out. He was fast - he grabbed my arm and turned me around to face him. The female was staying at a distance, watching us.

“Release me, Brontes.” I commanded in my alpha tone. He flinched but he didn’t let me go.

“We need to talk, you can’t just run away. You said we are mates. That means you’re mine. You can’t-” He started but I raised my free hand to stop him.

“We were mates but I think the moon goddess made a wrong judgment. It is cruel of her to give me a mate who isn’t faithful.” I growled out angrily. His eyes snapped red and his grip on my arm tightened painfully. I swallowed the lump in my throat.

“We are mates!” He said lowly.

“No. We wer-” He crushed his lips against mine, pulling my body flush against his. The contact was euphoric. I never felt anything like it before. When people said they saw shooting stars, they weren’t kidding. The instant connection between us grew immensely. His lips were soft yet moved with urgency—like he had a point to prove. When he broke the kiss, we were both breathing heavily.

“What would you do if you found out I slept with another male?” I whispered breathlessly and I risked a glance up at him. His eyes were still red and his grip on me tightened. His breathing became more ragged and his body was shaking.

“I’d kill him.” He whispered back with a promise.

“Then you know how I am feeling right now. Let me go.” I said feeling defeated.

“Calliope.” He said my name again.

“Don’t say my name.” I half pleaded, half ordered. He released my arms and I turned on my heels and walked back into the pack house, swallowing the lump in my throat.

I understand that for Brontes to be pure and waiting for me was not something I should expect but I didn’t expect for one of his old flings to be on my territory. The thought had my wolf growling and pacing inside of me. The hot red fury that was growing inside of me was almost uncontrollable. I also wanted to break down and cry.

I needed some time to think but it seemed today was just one problem after another because Isis walked up to me as I entered the pack house. She had a worried expression on her face.

“What?” I asked.

“Alpha Altair is on his way here.”

Fuck my life. Why can’t I get a break?
