Chapter 29/Epilogue
When I woke up, I was in my room again and an exhausted looking Brontes had his head on my stomach as he slept. My hand came out to caress his cheek and when he felt the tingling bond his eyes fluttered opened and his head shot up immediately.
“You’re awake.” He said breathlessly.
“Yes, it seems I am.” I said with a smile. He let out a short laugh before leaning down to kiss me fully on the lips. “How long was I out?”
“A day.”
“A day only?” I asked, surprised.
Brontes nodded and a grin came onto his face. “It seems we didn’t need that day together. You conceived our pup the first night we spent together.”
My eyes moved to my stomach and I looked at it as if it was foreign to me. I was carrying Brontes’ pup. When wolves mate and conceive it does not take them long to give birth to pups. What would take a human nine months to conceive it took us as little as three months.
“H-how did you know to check?” I asked.
“I didn’t. The doctor was surprised at how fast you were healing so he took some blood to test. It turns out our little pup here was helping you heal faster so that you could protect him and you.” He said happily and moved in to kiss me again before really looking at me carefully. “Goddess, I thought I really lost you, Calliope. Just when I was getting happy and my life seemed to right itself, you got hurt.”
“I’m sorry.” I said. “If I didn’t take off my armor I wouldn’t have got hit in the chest.”
“It’s okay, what matters is that you are alive and here with me because I don’t know what I would do if I lost you.” His hand moved to smooth back my hair.
“Did we get them all?” I asked, looking up at him.
“Yes, every last one of them.” He responded and there was a brief moment as I mulled over what had happened so far before I sighed and spoke.
“I am glad it is over.” I replied.
“Me too.”
3 days later
“Callie!” Isis shouted as she came running up to me on the training field where Brontes and I were practicing.
“What?” I asked, as I flipped Brontes back onto the ground. He growled angrily and a smile came onto my face.
“I demand to guard someone else.” She muttered and Orion came walking up behind her.
I sighed, “We have been over this, Izzy. You are to guard Orion.”
“I don’t want to.”
Orion looked upset and so I pulled Isis to the side away from the two males.
“Why are you acting this way?” I asked. “I know you have been looking for your mate all this time and now that you find him, you don’t want to be near him.”
“He is a rogue, Callie.” Isis muttered.
“But you love him.” I countered and Isis’s eyes softened. I knew she did or she wouldn’t have put up with him.
“The rogue title doesn’t define the werewolf, Izzy. What defines them is who they are on the inside. Has he once been mean to you? Hurt you? Threatened you?” I began and she shook her head to all of them. “Then you shouldn’t let a simple title get in the way of what you feel for him. A mate should be the most precious thing in the world and you should treasure it. Others spend years finding theirs when yours just so happened to walk into your life.”
Realization seemed to dawn on Isis and she turned back to a hurt looking Orion. Then she turned back to me and she pulled me into a hug. “Thank you, Callie.”
“No problem. Now go get make your hurt looking mate happy.”
She giggled and ran over to Orion where she proceeded to jump into his arms. He caught her in time but looked at her as if she’d grown a second head. She wrapped her arms around his neck and kissed him completely on the lips.
Brontes walked up to me and wrapped his arms around my shoulders. “What did you say to her?”
“What I thought to myself when I first met you.”
He looked at me urging me to elaborate. “When I first saw you, you were big and burly. The tallest of males that I had seen and to add on top of all that you were a feral rogue but that didn’t stop me from loving you, Brontes. I love you so much and beyond I am capable of.”
He broke into a grin and pulled me into a hug. “I love you too, my Alpha. We went through a lot in the small amount of time we met each other but our past is what makes us have a present and a future.”
“You are so right on that, my feral mate.” I whispered and pulled him down for a kiss too.
6 months later
“Eat up.” I said with a fake, plastered on smile as I fed milk to Kato. He looked up at me with his big, green eyes and began pushing the tip of the bottle out with his tongue. I huffed and rolled my eyes. He was just as stubborn as his father.
“Fine, if you don’t eat up now, don’t be mad if you get hungry later.” I chided and Kato made a baby sound at me. “Oh don’t you start with me, Kato. I am your mother. If-”
“What are you talking about?” Brontes came into our bedroom and walked over to sit next to us.
“Your son refuses to eat his bottle. I have been trying for the last 30 minutes now.” I said with annoyance.
“Here, let me try.” Brontes moved to take Kato out of my arms and when he had Kato cradled nicely in his arms he put his palm out for me to place the bottle in his hand. When he got the bottle he turned to his son. “Kato, eat or you won’t be big like your father and then how are you going to protect your mama?”
He placed the nipple tip on Kato’s lips and surprisingly, Kato began suckling. I huffed and crossed my arms. Brontes turned towards me with a smile on his face.
“This is so not fair.” I muttered.
“What isn’t?” Brontes asked.
“I think it is about time we try again for another. I want a girl this time.” I replied. “Maybe then she will be a mama’s girl.”
Brontes threw back his head and laughed. When he looked back at me his eyes twinkled with amusement. “Well, my female, if you would like to try for another pup we can definitely start. I wouldn’t mind at all. In fact, after this feeding I can give Kato over to your parents and you and I can-”
“Brontes, Kato is here.” I replied.
He frowned. “He doesn’t understand what you and I are saying.”
“And you are sure of it?“I asked with a smile. It was his turned to huff.
“Fine but tonight you and I will have time to ourselves.” He whispered huskily before moving in for a kiss. I cupped his cheeks and kissed him thoroughly with many promises for tonight before pulling back.
“I love you, my feral rogue.” I whispered against his lips.
“I love you too, my female Alpha.” He said and I could feel the grin on his lips.
Just as we got done kissing, my door flew open and in came a very pregnant Isis and Orion along with my parents. Everything had seemed to right itself within the pack. Mathias and his family settled into the pack house quickly after, without guards. As for my gamma, Alecto, he left my pack to go train with Alpha Altair and also go in search for his mate.
And as for Brontes and I, well, our lives have just begun and so far everything looked like it would turn out okay. The storm seems to have settled in for now and the calm has taken place. I won’t say that there won’t be any more challenges for us out there because in my world there was always danger lurking at every corner but for now I was going to settle with what I had, right now, as I looked at my family that now surrounded Brontes and I.
